We stayed at the Hotel Aurora from June 12th - 18th and a nicer spot couldn't be got in Sperlonga. The hotel has a Caribbean feel about it - low rise (3 storey); whitewash; nicely scented bougainvillea-clad shady garden complete with the cushioned wrought-iron chairs and a pleasant sea breeze. The website doesn't really do justice to how pretty the hotel and its location are. I've seen a review being slightly critical of the breakfast but we had no complaints, finding a good variety of fresh food available in ample quantities in the bright airy dining room - didn't actually hunger for lunch! Your room includes a double lilo/umbrella on the beach just out back and a 10-metre walk into the Mediterranean (ok Tyrrhenian) Sea. You'll get small waves so swimming is good as water always feels fresh.
Hotel Aurora is the best located seafront hotel in the town being nearest to the quiet town square which in turn leads to the main (hill) town itself. If you don't fancy the 'up the steps' approach, you can follow around by the winding main street to get to the top (much-much easier on my ageing legs!). I've been to Santorini and the Amalfi Coast but, as a hill town, Sperlonga is the prettiest I've ever seen. You'll never map the place out in your head but will find a couple of familiar routes through the place after a couple of days - it truly is a warren of lanes and alleyways - most atmospheric after dark and with plenty of restaurants, boutique shops and bars. Do expect to average out at about €70 for a decent 2-course with wine for 2. Do watch out for fresh fish sold by the 'etto' (100 grammes) - we paid €63 for a sea bass!!
All-in-all, a great location for a relaxing seaside break topped off by the Hotel Aurora providing the accommodation.
