“Seaside holidays like they should be”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2012

We stayed at the Hotel Aurora from June 12th - 18th and a nicer spot couldn't be got in Sperlonga. The hotel has a Caribbean feel about it - low rise (3 storey); whitewash; nicely scented bougainvillea-clad shady garden complete with the cushioned wrought-iron chairs and a pleasant sea breeze. The website doesn't really do justice to how pretty the hotel and its location are. I've seen a review being slightly critical of the breakfast but we had no complaints, finding a good variety of fresh food available in ample quantities in the bright airy dining room - didn't actually hunger for lunch! Your room includes a double lilo/umbrella on the beach just out back and a 10-metre walk into the Mediterranean (ok Tyrrhenian) Sea. You'll get small waves so swimming is good as water always feels fresh.

Hotel Aurora is the best located seafront hotel in the town being nearest to the quiet town square which in turn leads to the main (hill) town itself. If you don't fancy the 'up the steps' approach, you can follow around by the winding main street to get to the top (much-much easier on my ageing legs!). I've been to Santorini and the Amalfi Coast but, as a hill town, Sperlonga is the prettiest I've ever seen. You'll never map the place out in your head but will find a couple of familiar routes through the place after a couple of days - it truly is a warren of lanes and alleyways - most atmospheric after dark and with plenty of restaurants, boutique shops and bars. Do expect to average out at about €70 for a decent 2-course with wine for 2. Do watch out for fresh fish sold by the 'etto' (100 grammes) - we paid €63 for a sea bass!!

All-in-all, a great location for a relaxing seaside break topped off by the Hotel Aurora providing the accommodation.

Difficult to write this review without over praising the hotel as it is easy to be influenced by the overall memory of Sperlonga!

Sperlonga itself is a beautiful little beach town, and this hotel sits right on the beach.

The hotel itself is very basic, but clean, and I doubt there are that many better properties. But it is basic. Simple rooms, clean bathroom but nothing special. They have their own deck chairs on the beach with umbrellas at no extra cost. However they charge €2 per beach towel, which given the cost of the room was a bit of a cheek!

Free car parking was useful though, and the inclusive breakfast was OK (no hot food, cold eggs, cold meat cuts and your usual continental selection of breads, pastries and cereals)

Room Tip: Not sure it is worth more for the sea view, there is no balcony so you don't get to sit in your...

Sperlonga has the perfect formula for a relaxing break; nice places to eat and drink, a beautiful beach and less busy than the more well known destinations like Sorrento. Hotel Aurora greatly enhanced this experience. Decorated with a style in keeping with it's beach side location, our room was overlooking the beach, well air conditioned and conducive to some quality R&R. Breakfast was in a lovely room overlooking the beach (and until 10.30 so not too early), staff were friendly and we also enjoyed a very pleasant a drink or two at lunchtime and evening on the beachside terrace. We would highly recommend the location and the hotel.

This beach hotel is right on the beach. You can walk right out of the hotel and relax in a chair all day or take a walk up the hill to see the older, romantic section of Sperlonga.

Breakfast is ample and the staff are very helpful.

I was surprised by all the various sitting rooms and places to socialize--all with lovely sea views.

I would definitely stay there again.

I stayed at Aurora's just for a weekend but I can testify that both the location and the staff is really charming. Various breakfast for every taste, free and wide parking.

This hotel was recommended by a working colleague 10 years ago and we have spent at least one week every year holidaying here. Sperlonga is an unspoilt beauty where time seems to have stood still. The people are friendly and over the years we have got to know some of the locals. Restaurants in the town serve excellent local food and in peak season there are artists performing in the local piazza.

The hotel is excellent, peaceful and relaxing with it's own stretch of beach. Rooms are spacious and immaculately clean, some with balconies overlooking Sperlonga town. Nearby town of Terricina has lots of shops and restaurants and Fondi hosts a huge market on Sundays.

Couldn't fault anything about this hotel or Sperlonga, absolute perfection!!

Room Tip: There are four rooms with big balconies which have private sunloungers as well as a table and chairs...
