Loved our stay at the hotel, room service/cleaning was the best i have experienced for years.
Clean towels and clean sheets everyday. Helpfull staff in the reception made our holiday complete. To be recomended .

Room Tip: We had a room on the same level as the swimming pool floor level 300, dont take this. We had a bush...

Lovely hotel,in a great position and close to the beach and lower town.
The staff were very friendly, although we did have problems when checking in,being given the wrong room. This was rectified quickly the next day.
Breakfast and meals were good and the pool area is lovely.Car park (underhotel) was great with easy access to lobby.
Overall the hotel is clean and well looked after.
My only niggles were although decorated to a high standard, there were a few downfalls..the shower doors not fitting (flooding bathroom),no glasses in the bedroom or balcony furniture,
no hotel or resort info to hand (in the room or at reception)
Maybe we were there in a quiet time, but there seemed to be a very limited number of staff to hand,so no pool bar or even reception bar open.
Overall though this should not stop you from staying.
The town is a great example of a lovely family Italian resort and for those who want to escape the sound of everything but the Italian voice, perfect.

The staff here were very helpful and friendly. The breakfast was good with lots of options and the pool area was lovely. We got a good deal, considering this is a 4* hotel, but there were a few things which weren't as nice as I would have hoped: the shower flooded the bathroom and hallway every time we used it and the wifi was a bit hit and miss - we had to request to have it activated in our room, it would have been nice if it just automatically worked. Oh and the bed was very hard! Aside, from these small things it was a nice hotel. A bit lacking in atmosphere but this could've been down to it being the low season

This is for anyone in Rome with tired feet, sensory overload with Piazzas, monuments, catching the subway to get from one side of town to another. My wife and I, decided we needed a vacation from our holiday in Europe. Looked on Tripadvisor.com for suggestions and discovered Sperlonga and the Virgilio Grand Hotel. Pictures don't do the place justice, very nice accommodations inclusive of jet showers, and patios. It's a boutique hotel and we enjoyed every bit of it. Rosa (receptionist) is a gem of a person, spoke great English and and went above and beyond with dinner reservations and suggestions. Wish we could have stayed longer, but it was unplanned. We will go back to Sperlonga and stay at Virgilio's.......

So for you sitting in your hotel in Rome or planning this vacation from home, Do yourself a favor and visit Sperlonga - you will not regret it.

PS - 5 minute walk to the beach, 15 minutes to city center. To get there catch a train to Fondi station from Roma Termini ~ 13 euro round-trip per person. Bus from Fondi station to Sperlonga ~1 euro per person.

I stayed in this hotel in september 2011. and I can say that it was offering even more than I expected. The food was great, the staff was very very kind, the rooms were clean...
Hotel does not have a private beach but it has a really nice pool and it was not busy.
If you are looking for a calm holiday then you should choose Sperlonga.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 13, 2011

My wife and I decided to spend a day in Sperlonga and selected this hotel based on positive Trip Advisor reviews. The Virgilio Grand is a business hotel and probably does a bulk of its business in the summer when the beach is a larger draw; it was very quiet during our stay. The entire atmosphere of the hotel is very contemporary so if you are looking for "old world charm" this is not the place. The room was clean and well appointed; however it had a sloped ceiling (fortunately not concrete) which I bumped my head on a few times. The bed was very firm (typical for Italy) and was composed of two mattresses placed side by side (somewhat common), thus there is a seam in the middle. Ours was a smaller double room and had a shower, no tub. The staff was friendly and spoke enough English. There is no wi-fi in the rooms; only in the lobby (it is free of charge). Parking was free at the hotel and on the street since it was off-season. The included breakfast was average by European standards. This property also has a spa and gym for which I could find no prior reviews. We were quoted 20 euro for day use of the spa and 10 euro for the gym. We were permitted to look at the gym and it was very small and not worth 10 euro. We did not look at the spa. The beach and touristy part of town was a short walk from the hotel. The shoreline stretches for quite a distance and is a nice walk. Overall this is a nice property and we would stay here again, but we would probably explore other options as well.

I did a ton of research to identify the best beach in Italy, and based on my travels around the country, Sperlonga was the right choice. It is truly a wonderful, magical place, with warm, clear water and delicious food. There is loads of fantastic seafood, something my love and I both adore. The little cafes along the beach serve terrific caprese salad sandwiches, and their are great little gelato stands near the open air square where live musical performers play almost nightly during the summer.

The Virgilio offered a fantastic rate on one of the laterooms or lastminute sites, so we enjoyed a luxurious room for a very low cost. The breakfast was included and was very tasty. I'd stay there again in a heartbeat if I couldn't get a villa rental. I think it would be fun to have one's own place so that one could make as much noise with one's love as one wished...if you know what I mean. But if I had to choose a resort, I'd pick the Virgilio. Very nice staff, beautiful lodging, great location.
