“people and location was a neg”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2009

we had this hotel booked because they promised a "shuttle pickup service"

we did get one, but we never expected that we will be charged extra for this, and this extra was alot, 60 euros one way, from and to the airport!

when we got there, they wanted 120 euros for the room, but we disagreed as we knew their rates from the net, and they immediately brought it down to 90. they are fishy.
what is it with these hotels that just can not give us what we had booked?
it wasnt like we felt comfortable just going back up on that ripoff taxi or their shuttle whatever and going to another accomodation.

without these things, the hotel itself was ok. quite italy alike furnitures, room was big compared to others and comfortable.

I booked this hotel as a one night stay after a cruise. I did not want to have to rush from the port of Civitavecchia to the airport, so I, along with extended family, booked this hotel near the airport.

Lets me say that my stay was preceeded by 3 nights at the spectacular Hilton Cavalieri, then a 7 night cruise on the Navigator of the Seas in a Junior Suite. I say this because this may have spoiled me prior to staying here....but I doubt it.

Imediately upon arrival, I felt uncomfortable. We had to wait outside in the searing heat on dirty chairs and tables for our rooms to be ready. The lobby was very small with no A/C.

The hotel advertised being within walking distance of ruins. What they failed to mention is that if you attempted to walk there, you would die. It is a busy road with no sidewalk.

Also, they advertised having a restaurant. The restaurant was not open, and it did not appear to have been open in quite some time. There was no way of getting coffee or any food here.

For dinner, we ordered pizza delivery. Of course, the pizza that was delivered was nowhere near what we ordered. But the delivery boy had an arrogant attitude and we paid him to just give us the pizza and leave.

The rooms were clean, but very outdated and uncomfortable.

There is literally NOTHING to do around this hotel. And there is nothing at the hotel to entertain. To pass time, my wife and I walked the streets of the residential neighborood behind the hotel. The highlight was looking at cows.

We then took a taxi, which we waiting 45 minutes for, to the nearby sea-side town of Ostia. After walking around for about an hour, we realized it was not tourist friendly and there was nothing to do. We ate a burger at McDonalds. Finding a taxi back was very difficult. The local shop employees were not friendly and refused to assist. Finally, one lady at a buffet style restaurant was nice enough to call for us. By then, I was ready to leave that town and never return.

If there is a silver lining here, it is the friendliness of the young lady at the front desk. She was very nice and was fluent in English.
