“Very unsatisfactory experience”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2012

My husband and I ate at Dal Pirata last week. They did not have THREE of the five things we ordered (buffalo mozarella, soup, and lemon sorbet -- how hard is it to have these?). The scampi, cooked over the open fire, was overcooked. The service was okay, but there were very few people there on a Friday night at 9PM. And, it was very brightly lighted, so the ambiance was not good. Overall, we were totally dissatisfied.

“Great food, service and reasonable prices”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 12, 2012

We were in FIumicino our last night in Rome to be near the airport. It's a lovely little seaside town with several restaurants. We settled on this one as we could see a fire blazing on a raised hearth inside and once we had our food we knew why it was there.

We ordered and split roasted veggies, seafood risotto (the best we tasted in Italy) and a chocolate volcano cake. The coals from the fire were scooped onto a type of metal shallow box and a grill was lowered over it to roast the veggies. Yum! And, they make their seafood risotto with such fresh seafood. The calamari was not rubbery at all and I even ate the mussels, which I don't usually like. The dessert was also delicious and the bread basket has several different choices.

The servings were large so we were glad we split them. The prices were very reasonable, the service attentive, but not intrusive and the restaurant itself lovely.

Why the pirate name? If you go to the restrooms, you'll pass by a room with lifesize manequins dressed as pirates with all sorts of pirate memorabilia. Fun!

“Great!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2012

We had some barbequed octopus to share, some red from Tuscany, grilled vegetables, parmesan potatoes and a large piece of t-bone. It was from Denmark apparently, perfectly cooked and just melted in the mouth. This was our best meal in our ten days in Italy.

“Fantastic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2012

When realizing we were too exhausted to head into Rome for dinner the night before our early departure flight out of FCO, we decided to explore the Port area of Fiumicino for dinner spots. Walked by Dal Pirata and it looked warm & inviting with many tables full of local diners. I'm so happy we stopped in! The food was fantastic-- after being in Rome and Capri for the week this was actually my favorite meal. Fresh seafood prepared on a wood-burning grill in addition to the typical Italian pastas and mains. The service was friendly and accommodating-- our server translated the entire menu for us. Next time we have a stopover in FCO we will definitely be back.
