“good value Kostas didnt cost us!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 11, 2009

stayed in new block - everything we needed and bathroom much better than others in Greece (shower big enough for 2!). Clean linen - rooms cleaned 6 days a week. location near enough to centre of resprt, but not in the thick of it. Downside, variable hot water when less sunshine - unusually we had rain for few days during our second week - wonder if its solar heated? Didnt have a bad meal out, all restaurants good varied menu, authentic Greek dishes - v friendly service. The on the house deserts were a nice touch. Resort relaxed idela for couples and young families, if you are looking for frantic nightlife, its not for you. We found prices v reasonable, used to order 4 or 5 starters and a carafe of the local wine (7 Euros for a litre!) Read so much about the bbq at the hotel, just had to go, ok so its not great value, but the quiz is fun and we had a good night out. Everyone friendly and helpful, and there was a good atmosphere about the hotel. bar prices were ok. would go back for a relaxing chilled break.

Found hotel in a reasonable position in relation to the resort, the hotel was clean and efficient with two pools that were a little small. The sunbeds were packed together quite tightly and very close to the pools, as a result you could get splashed by boisterous children.
After the welcome meeting Kostas would follow the rep and try to sell you the "barbacue night" at 10 euros, we didn`t buy so were not made to feel particularly welcome by him for the rest of our holiday ( this didn`t apply to the rest of the staff)
The room was very good by Greek standards with free air conditioning a good fridge which wasn`t pre` filled and a semi enclosed walk in shower with good water temperature control.
The down side were the beds, they reminded us of the bunks in "The Great Escape" very thin, hard materesses on top of loose wooden boards that creaked every time you so much as breathed heavy. (any love life would have to be left at home or on the floor)
The other down side was that on most days the cleaner in our block didn`t get finished till after 4pm, (so much for a siesta)
Overall we liked the resourt but after a one and a quarter hour walk to Hanioti we decided that if we were to go again that is were we would stay.

Returned 24/8/09 from Hotel Kostas(brochure does not do it justice)although bar snacks are a bit naff,Rooms and pool very nice.Mr Kostas and family run the place and are friendly and helpful-he works 12 hours a day,7 days a week@73 years old-must be the diet!!
Loads of places to eat in resort but exchange rate made everything pricey this year.Had no bad meals but recommend"Kanetanioz",just down the road from the "Cockney cafe"-has a separate pizza kitchen but the fillet steaks are superb(yes, plural,'cos you get 2!).We ate here 3 times and each time received large liquers"on the house"-go for 2 courses max as the portions are large.
All round a very pleasant holiday

Just returned from 2 week holiday at the Royal Kostas Hotel in Polichrono and found the hotel to be peaceful and the one bedroom apartment very spacious for Greece! The owners were charming and nothing was too much trouble. On the down side we found the cooking facilities very basic with just a portable hot ring cooker, no toaster and no oven, also you need to get up early if you want a pool sun lounger when it is busy. Other than that we had a most enjoyable stay, and would recommend the Akrogiala Hotel restaurant for a top quality meal with exceptional service, although the menu is limited.

We decided to book to this hotel, because we were influenced by previous reviews...but we were very very disappointed. We wished we had booked somewhere else. The photos and the video on the internet are enhanced they are misleading the public. They have nothing to do with the reality!
We requested for an apartment with king size bed on the top floor...and we got a very old room with twin beds, which was on the ground level of the old wing, with an underground balcony on the side of the backyard. The owners were rude and unwilling to give us a better room. They actually blamed Thomson for not informing them about our special requests. Room description: Old furniture (spiders all over the room), rusty plumbing, broken shower cabin, the sink and the cupboards in the kitchen smelled mould. We stayed there for 7 nights and they changed our towels and sheets only once! Even them were ripped and punctured.
Another problem was that all the time, dozens of locusts were entering from the backyard in the room and in the 1-meter underground balcony. It was disgusting! There were so many ugly and worth mentioning negative details about this room, that I could write pages about. I work in the tourism industry, so from my experience around Greece I can say that premises like this one expose Greece. They may have better rooms, but the one we stayed was untended and dirty! I would not recommend this mess to anyone! There are much better hotels in the area!

I agree with the previous reviews, apartment was lovely & cleaned 6 days a week. We were in one of the new apartments at the back with a modern bathroom, proper shower (oh joy!) and never any shortage of hot water or loo roll! There is some waste ground in front of these blocks – it will be a crime if they build on this as it will block the beautiful sea views from the balconies.

Only downside of the complex was the selfish ones who put their towels out on the sunbeds before 08:00 & then disappear for the rest of the day. We only used the pool twice because of this and it needs stopping as it surely affects the bar takings. The pool is really only a kids pool & too small & shallow to swim properly. The pool area itself is quite cramped and impossible to relax as it is so noisy and you constantly get splashed. Although there are plenty of sunbeds, they are very close together & not enough umbrellas to go round.
A clothes airer to hang stuff on the balcony would be a welcome addition to these excellent apartments, as although they are obviously quite new, the balconies are already beginning to rust & several items are ruined with rust marks picked up after hanging to dry on the balcony rail.

We didn't bother with the BBQ as it was way too early for us, & we felt 10€ was expensive compared to the restaurant prices. Although Kostas & family were friendly & welcoming - especially Maria, we noticed a distinct "chill" set in when we failed to attend the BBQ. The night before we were due to leave we went to empty our Safe, only to be told by the barman that Kostas was asleep and we couldn’t get our passports & flight tickets etc out – we were leaving at 07:30! Eventually he sent another lad who we’d not seen previously, who was drinking in the bar & and he opened the safe for us. Phew! However, as we left the office Kostas appeared as large as life & wide awake! It is a bit inconvenient having the deposit boxes in the office as you have to ask & although this was only a problem on the last night, you do feel as if you’re being a nuisance having to keep asking.

We chose Polichrono because it was a ‘quiet’ resort, and although there were no nightclubs we were shocked at how busy it was. The beach is narrow and gets very busy after about 16:00 when all the Greek people descend. We were disgusted at how dirty they were, leaving a trail of cigarette ends, food & drink leftovers behind for the staff in the beachfront bars to clear up after they’d left. I’m surprised they don’t have more respect for their own country as I’m sure they wouldn’t like it if tourists behaved in the same way, consequently the beach is one large ashtray.

Our favourite bar was Nero & best restaurants were George's, Nefreli, and a little tiny place with a small garden (turn right at the crossroads by the Supermarket and it’s along on the left hand side). The Viva restaurant above the pizza place (turn right at the sea front, almost to the end) was also very good & had great views of the beach at night. Flegra was awful, poor food (I ordered veal & when it came it looked more like horse meat. I asked what it was, they said “pork”. I told them I ordered veal, so they then said it was veal and refused to back down). To add insult to injury we were then presented with something that looked like a train crash on a plate – a revolting mess of soggy pancake, in a huge sea of chocolate sauce and banana ice cream – disgusting!

Myself and my girlfriend stayed at these apartments for 2 weeks,we found the rooms to be clean and the cooking bits just enough to do what you want.Towels changed every few days but sheets etc cleaned and changed daily.we stayed in the old block which was not actually bad at all.drinks were 2euro for a can of mythos or 2.50 for a draught german beer at the bar.bar food was limited and the greek salad was decent.pool area was nice plenty of sun beds etc.lots of wasps around the pool though.although this didnt bother us,most were dying in the water lol.the main resort is not bad with a nice beach / beach front.try eating at viva steak house if you can find it along the front ,nice food.I have had much better food in rhodes and was abit disappointed as a whole with alot of places we tried.Overall its a nice area with lots of greeks and eastern europeans holidaying.2 weeks was enough 1 week looking around and doing tours another chilling by the beach and pool.Overall is a nice hotel regardless if you get the new block or not.Free aircon which was nice and overall a really clean hotel/apartment.P.s we did the BBQ on our second week , but that was by choice ,the first week kostas really does try and drag you into it.foods ok but nothing special.
