“Best restaurant in Nosara!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 13, 2013

Lovely hotel but the restaurant really takes the cake. Dive up bar perfect for pre or post sunset cocktails, incredibly friendly and professional staff. Their seafood and rice dish is unparalleled, as well as their ceviche. The have great fresh fruit cocktails, fun music and and an addicting bar game. The staff really is great and will give you advice on whatever you need, it should be a first and regular visit when you come to Nosara.

Room Tip: I thin that they are all the same.

Thank you so much for your great review and feedback on our restaurant. Our restaurant staff has been working hard to improve their service and it seems like it's paying off! They will be delighted to hear this great feedback. I also find the food in the restaurant incredible! The swim up bar is a big hit as well! Thank you so much and we look forward to seeing you again here at the Harbor Reef! Pura Vida!

After almost a dozen trips to Nosara over the past 20 years, I've settled into Harbor Reef as my hotel of choice. It is within easy walking distance of the main surf breaks and a handful of restaurants and a convenience store. The rooms are spacious, and the grounds are lush. Having 24-hour security is a real plus. The restaurant is one of the best in Nosara, and the bar staff is super friendly and always ready to fix your favorite dring. The new manager, Jon Canderaro, is doing a terrific job.

The Harbor Reef was a great choice for us, we flew into Liberia and they picked us up with a comfortable van, stopped to get us lunch (jetblue=no food) and delivered us to the hotel. We were graciously greeted by Jon the manager who was awesome the entire trip, available at all times. Our room was comfortable and clean and the grounds were very beautiful, mature gardens and cool paths everywhere. The restaurant was delicious. Best part is the quaint path to the beach is 50 yards from the hotel so it feels super convenient to go catch some waves!

We spent a week at the Harbor Reef Surf Resort in a suite with a full kitchen and a large deck. Newbies need to know that there are no hotels or houses or inns on the beaches of Nosara, but the Harbor Reef is as close as you will get; a quick walk down the road, followed by a jungle trail. You'll know you are at the beach when you see the grave yard, which is whole attraction in itself. From our deck, we could hear the pounding of the surf on the long, wide open beach. This hotel has two small pools, one at the bar which is open to diners and hotel guests and a private pool for hotel guests only, with hammocks and lounge chairs under the shade of banana trees. Really lovely. The continental breakfast is a heaping plate of fresh fruit, yummy, but the OJ is not fresh squeezed so skip that. Great staff, with lots of surf knowledge. I loved the cry of the howler monkeys at dusk and dawn and easily fell into the sweet rhythm of beach, sun, sand and great, fresh food. Don't miss the weekly organic market on Tuesdays! We stocked up on papayas and fruit for the whole week.

Room Tip: Ask for a room or suite in the 'old' part of the hotel that is off the road. The road is rut...

Location, Location , Location! Wake up to the alarm of a howler monkey, dine on complimentary fresh mango, papaya and melon in the Reef restaurant and be greeted by a smiling happy staff, then stroll through a jungle path to the world's best beach, Playa Guiones. The temperature of the water was balmy, the sunsets are world class. The view? Expert surfers, novice surfers, frolicking families and playful dolphins. My fishing trip out of Playa Garza yielded 7 tuna/bonito ...and that was just the first hour. Had them cook my tuna fillets in The Reef Restaurant for a culinary feast. (The watermelon mojito washed it down beautifully!) Loved the trip to Brenda's Monkey Rescue and The Rodeo. My only regret? I was too busy to chill out in those hammocks. Sign me up for my next trip so I can sample the Yoga Institute, enjoy your spa treatments and brush up on my Spanish at the Nosara Language Center. It's no wonder Nosara is one ohe earth's "Blue Zones", where people live the longest!! Pura Vida!

Room Tip: The suites are perfect for families with great spacious kitchens

Jon and the staff were very friendly and made our trip a delight. What was hard to tell about Nosara is that there is no beachfront lodging. Since every hotel says 'steps from the beach', it was hard to decide where we wanted to be. We chose Harbor Reef due to a friend's recommendation and were very happy with the choice. It is probably the best location of any hotel in Nosara. A 2 minute walk to the beach and while tranquil and quiet still close to everything in Nosara. I would definitely go back!

Thanks so much for your great review Sean. It was a pleasure serving you during your stay. It's interesting you mention the fact there are no hotels on the beach here. That is actually one of the best things about this area. You really notice the beauty of Playa Guiones when you step out on the beach at night and it's actually pitch black with no light pollution. There are not many tourist destinations left in the world like it. We are glad you enjoyed our location and proximity to the ocean, the waves are just a short walk away. On behalf of the whole staff, we say thank you and look forward to your return. Pura Vida!
