“Welcoming hosts, great pool, beautifully built & landscaped”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 9, 2011

The care that Miriyam & Marcel take in the running of their hotel extends into the community at large, with a demonstrable commitment to sustainable business practice. However, the hotel does not lack in amenities, most notably a saline lap pool long enough to satisfy the serious swimmer. With a great restaurant featuring a wood burning pizza oven, one need never leave, though the beach is an easy 5 minute walk, and town is another 5 minutes. After several days we left to explore other beaches, though quickly returned to Giardino Tropicale to spend the rest of our time in Costa Rica. We left having gained friends and knowing we have a warm welcome when we return to Nosara.

Room Tip: The two upstairs rooms are spacious and architecturally dramatic, with a great private terrace.

Marcel and Myriam are not only the best hosts you could hope for, but they are completely invested in the local community and to being as friendly to the environment as they are to their guests. The water is solar-heated, there is in-room recycle separating, the pool is chemical-free, and there are organic fruits and veggies grown around the property.

The rooms are spotless, and there is exceptional woodwork throughout. The high ceilings and thoughtful room planning kept the room cool and dry, and we didn't ever need the A/C.

We stayed for a week without a rental car and we never needed one. You can walk to everything from Giardino Tropicale, including the beach, which is about a 5-10 minute walk.

They offer a pool-side breakfast every morning, which is quite a lovely way to start the day. There's also an excellent coffee machine that is available to guests at all times.

I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking to stay in Nosara.

My family stayed here for 4 nights and would recommend this place to anyone traveling to Nosara. We liked the hotel, the rooms were clean, the rates were reasonable and the staff was nice. We ate at the restaurant several times while we were there. Although the prices were not extremely cheap (they weren't outrageous either) we found that everything we had was quite good. On that note, the pizza was exceptional. I nice thin crust with a great sauce, cooked in a wood burning oven. I'd go back just for this alone.

We have been travelling thru Costa Rica for 6 weeks and the week with Marcel and Myriam in Giardino Tropicale was the best! Not only we loved Playa Guiones, the hotel was a wonderful retreat after a day at the beach surfing and playing with the kids. The rooms are spotless clean, spacious and comfortable. They have thought of all those small things, a coffee maker , (with good coffee!), large safe and fridge in the room; every room has it's own outside douche to rinse, a washing line for wet clothes to drip, a place where you can clean sandy stuff and a lovely patio. Wifi is working very good in the rooms. Next to that the pool area is very nice with deckchairs, tables and chairs, a beautiful garden and very good complementary coffee thru-out the day. We have 2 little kids and they loved the pool; there is a long 17 m pool and next to it a small pool for kids.
The hotel grounds are lovely with loads of beautiful plants and trees and we have seen a lot of monkey's eating from the mango trees.
Last but not least the owners of the place are the best hosts you can imagine. We are not the type of people that normally give much attention to how nice the owners/staff is; but Myriam and Marcel are both such warm, nice and helpfull people, that it was truly adding a lot to our wonderfull stay!!
Some words about location as I found it hard to figure out when researching Playa Guiones. There are 2 areas with little shops, hotels, restaurants, both centred around the 2 side roads that lead from the main road to the beach. Giardino Tropicale is centrally located in the middle of the 2, each a 10 min. walk. You can also walk to the beach, also a 10 minute walk, so if you have (a large) surf board, you need a car. We had a car and than GT is a really great location as it is in the middle of everything; it is easy to park near the beach and everywhere in the village. Really near to the beach are only a few hotels, but what I have seen they were either much more expensive or less nice. So we would choose the same hotel next time!

When we arrived, we were given a wonderful welcome and shown a new room that looked like a treehouse--it was perfect for us! Myriam and Marcel were wonderful hosts, the room was relaxing and convenient, and the pool was always clean and nice. The restaurant food was very good. They even have a market in the restaurant parking lot Saturday mornings, which is a great place to get fresh fruit and good pastries.

My last night there, I was stricken with food poisoning (NOT from Giardino Tropicale--from another restaurant). Myriam and Marcel went out of their way to check into changing my travel arrangements and provided tea and imotil, I cannot imagine getting through that anywhere else!

This is a wonderful place for traveling with children, families, or as a couple. I would recommend it. And it takes about 5 minutes to walk to the beach--not far at all.

The owners are a lovely couple. The hotel is surrounded with native plants that were planted by the owners. It is a certified green hotel and they are still making more improvements in waste disposal and reducing environmental impact.

The restaurant has the best carpaccio I've had in along time. The chef is amazing--let him create for you. The salad bar is always fresh and interesting.

It's nice to be away from the hustle of the beach but with in a short walk. It's paradise in paradise. And great rates. They have hammocks on the side of the rooms... Monkeys...its really sweet. I've stayed there twice in the past three months after checking out other hotels in Guiones.

This place has 11 rooms I believe, so it must book up fast. We loved the garden and landscaping of it all. The lap pool was in a perfect location and there was shade and lounge chairs on the small lawn. The Italian Restaurant is owned by the hotel and it was delicious food. It is a short walk to other restaurants and the beach. The owner Myriam helped us to book a horseback ride with a local man that was a fun experience (and a much better price)

The only thing about nosara was that the waves were definitely for surfers and not swimmers. But it was a lovely and peaceful town
