“Room 9 is worth it”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2014

After booking the only room they had available, we discovered room 9 is one of the most expensive as well. It's worth it. We woke up with the sun at 5:30 every day when howler monkeys appeared mere meters away from our balcony to eat the fruit in the trees. The superior rooms all have gorgeous balconies facing the rainforest, but a top floor suite is perfect for observing the many groups of monkeys that hang out just outside. Bring earplugs if you wish to sleep later!

The innkeepers are lovely and accommodating, and the food is wonderful! The breakfast buffet includes eggs made any style and classic gallo pinto, and a lovely array of fresh Costa Rican fruits. Innkeepers speak English, Spanish, and German. Rooms are pristine and the pool is lovely. I love how secluded the hotel feels, even if it's just a short drive from the town. Gorgeous vista - I'd love to come back some day!

Room Tip: Superior rooms and junior suites are worth the extra money. Upstairs rooms (8 and 9) have bigger bal...

What beautiful setting up on the clif side looking down along the coast line. We had cocktails at subset two nights in a row. The sunsets here are incredible. The staff are friendly. The food looked great although we didn't try it. This place is very romantic so bring your partner! Thank you for creating a lovely experience

I don't think there is anything to add to the superlatives in other reviews, except to say I totally agree!
This place is wonderful!!
Staff is expertly trained. The owners live on site, which shows their commitment to and love for the hotel and the town. Lagarta has all the sustainable stamps of approval you could hope for in an old-world setting that is truly unique. You will not believe the dining area and food. Stunning.
Stay there if you can.

Room Tip: The view from second floor rooms is even more amazing.

We just went for drinks and did not stay at the hotel. The hotel is located in about 10 minutes by car (or ATV) from Playa Guines. Its up a windy little dirt mountain road. The ride is worth it. Even if you just go for drinks, you have to see a sunset at Lagarta. Truly amazing. Pictures don't do it justice. It looked like the restaurant was open but some folks said it is not always.

I am a Costa Rican and I know the Nosara area pretty well. My cousin and I decided to stay at Lagarta Lodge with the only goal of enjoying surf fishing at the Nosara River Mouth next door. Hence, we had unusual needs like getting up at 4:00 am, requesting breakfast between 9 and 10 am and showing up at dinner time with fish to cook. We received outstanding attention by the managers Regina and Amadeo. The room was great, the food amazing, including breakfast at 9:30 am with amazing freshly squeezed juice, and dinner prepared immediately with fish we caught. The managers even gave us a great discount given that we provided the fish. I was sad to leave. My cousin and I are certainly looking forward to coming back for a longer time period.

We just spent three days at Lagarta Lodge and really enjoyed it. The drive there is long, dusty, and bumpy but it is worth it in the end. We stayed in a junior sweet, and it was an amazing experience. The rooms are modern, there is AC, a fridge and a little dining area overlooking the forest. There is a really nice pool to cool off in. The owners are extremely hospitable and were very gracious hosts. They welcomed us and explained how everything worked. This hotel boasts beautiful views of the forest and the ocean...the balcony literally overlooks the valley and the water. We saw howler monkeys tromping by our window daily...it was beautiful. The property has its own trails which are well worth exploring. We also booked a tour of the river which was a highlight for us and well worth the money. The breakfast at the hotel is really great. Dinner is hearty and wholesome but not exactly fine dining though you can't beat the beautiful sunset views. We would highly recommend this hotel and would definitely go back. Big thanks to the owners for making us feel so welcome.

Room Tip: The junior suites are really worth the little bit extra you pay.
