We stayed from the 24th August to 7th September. On September 1st I had an accident that was diagnosed as a bad ankle sprain and was instructed to use crutches and a strong ankle support with no weight bearing for 5 days. In the interim I was to keep my foot elevated and use ice regularly. Our apartment was on the top floor and as those who have stayed there know there are no hand rails on the stairs for the entire 36 stone steps to the C floor.
When we arrived back after the hospital diagnosis we were met by Mania who asked several times what the doctors had said. Having told her each time about the ice I was disappointed to have to eventually ask for some ice, I was given it but certainly it wasn't liked that I asked. The next morning, having realised the ordeal the stairs was we asked could we be moved to a downstairs apartment, we were told no. For the following 2 days I was limited to going down to the bar area in the mid morning and sitting there till it was time to go to bed. I was never asked how I was unless we had ordered food and it was being served, never asked if I needed help, and when Evelyn was gone in search of pharmacies and ice packs I ended up sitting for up to 2 hours at a time alone without either of Manis or Mania coming near me to see would I even like to order something let alone if I was ok.
On the Tuesday I learned that I would need to attend a private clinic to get a fit to fly cert and that Thomas Cook would need to make arrangements for me to be in a wheelchair in the airport. I asked Manis about organising the Thomas Cook aspect which would have involved a local phone call on his land line but he insisted I wait till Thursday. The following day I went to the clinic, it's about 6 minutes away by car and even then we had to ask the wonderful owners to call a cab to come from Hesonisos to bring us.....not even an offer of a lift considering the circumstances and by this point my foot was so swollen it was obvious to one and all I had a bad injury.
The clinic diagnosed a fracture and the orthopedic doctor worried about clots and hence put my leg in a half cast with instructions to move to a downstairs apartment that evening. On returning in the cast Manis was sitting in the bar so we asked straight away about moving and we were told no, that it would be such a simple thing for him to move us but it would upset his schedule so he wasn't interested in doing so. Also on our last evening we had been instructed by our rep to get them to ring her if we had missed her visit as she was trying to organise refunds for trips we obviously could not take part in, yet again Mania refused to make a local call for us. So for 7 days in those apartments I saw the true side to this brother and sister...they don't care about their customers, we only ever saw Mania being friendly when we were ordering food and drinks, for those of you who are animal lovers Manis thought it great fun to feed starving kittens an exclusive diet of salted peanunts in a place where NO water was made available to them, all in all they are people that I hope I never have the displeasure of setting eyes on again. To make matters even more pointed, since coming home I've had to have surgery to set the multiple fractures in my foot, some of which were quite possibly exasperated by the fall I had on the stairs on my last evening when the sheer effort of the climb was just the point of overload.
Things that I would have turned a blind eye to had the experience been a reasonable one. The towels, bedding, curtains and throws in our apartments were all in need of either replacing or being washed properly. The bedding was discoloured, torn, stained and thread bare. The towels were grey and were clearly not being washed at a high enough temperature, our bath mat was taken for washing half way through our first week and we never saw another one again, great fun trying to manage crutches on wet tiles. The crockery was filthy when we arrived and had to be thoroughly washed. We had stored some plastic bags from shopping in the drawers where we were keeping our food....we discovered during the stay that the cleaning ladies were going through those drawers to take bags to put in the bins after they emptied them, I really did not like the idea of out things being rooted through. Finally if any of you ever have designs on cooking you might like to bring some essentials like sharp knives to chop or peel, tin openers etc. It may be advertised as self catering but cooking with such limited appliances is nothing short of a challenge.
Finally for SJRGwent you make like to know that the group that arrived during your 2nd week were 25 friends of the owners who they holiday with during the winter months!!!!!!!!!!! It is no surprise to me you were treated as you were after they arrived, I only hope that many more people got to see this family in their true colours and that it reflects in their business next year, it's exactly what they deserve.
