“Only use your room for a base, make your own entertainment and ear out if possible!!!!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2013

Me and my husband have just returned from our holiday at the Club Lyda last week. The only request we made upon booking the holiday was that we were'nt give a ground floor room.
In the event we were given a room in the basement with a small useless terrace as the outlook was a brick wall with hardly and sunlight at all. The room was very basic but clean though a bit musky. It was extremely difficult to sleep as it was so hot and humid down there and we were advised by a guest not bother shelling out 40e for the air con as it didn't make any difference. The bed was very hard and we had to pad it out with thick blankets. Mosqiutos were a huge problem for a lot of guests though we were lucky.
The entertainment was very average but Edward and Nicos did the best with what they had to work with and were briiiant lads and very accomadating. The bar staff were lovely too but there just wasn't enough of them, que's a mile long as we were only allowed one drink per person.
The food was very repetetive and an unusual combination at times i.e chips for breakfast and hygiene did'nt seem to be a very high priority in the restaurant.
You have to watch that you don't get fleeced when checking out as many people were getting charged for things the hadn't had. They tried to tell us we hadn't paid for our safety deposit box and another couple were billed for using the telephone in their room when they hadn't.
The hotel receptionist wasn't very helpful and there was an ogre of a manager who was always causing trouble amoungst the staff and guests, mainly at the bar area on an evening. The lady who worked in the supermarket on site was lovely.
On the plus side when everyone was getting really fed up, the owner did apologise and is a lovely lady but it was a matter of too little too late.
However, the sun shone all day everyday of our holiday, the pool area was lovely and clean with plenty of sun beds, though dated and we made a lot of lovely friends.
Would definately go back to the resort, but not this hotel.

We booked our holiday last minute so got quite a cheap deal. The hotel itself is lovely to look at and walk around, rooms are basic but what do you actually use your room for on holiday, your not in it long! There are 3 good sized pools, 1 has a pool bar which you can also swim up to. This pool is also used for the water games, which doesn't really make sense as this is the most popular pool. The pools are nice although started to become cloudy towards the end of our 12 day stay.
As for the restaurant, this was again basic but staff were friendly and helpful. The food was basic and repetitive but some of the dishes were flavoursome. If your fussy (I am to some extent) you will probably live on pasta and potatoes. We went for several meals out just for variety. If you are on a budget the hotel will suffice, you won't starve. Although when we went there were a lot of Russians who like to take platefuls of food!! So get in quick! The variety of drinks is minimal but something for everyone I'm sure.

Overall the hotel is pleasant enough for a week away, we wouldn't stay here again but we like to try new places.

There is a lot of negativity in these latest reviews and I would totally agree with all of it. I have never had such rubbish food in Greece in all my life Like a lot of others we gave up in the end and reverted to eating out, normally at The Island or The Windmill or Rainbows. If you have a holiday coming up at this place HARD LUCK Try chips and carrots for breakfast before you go you might get you used to it. The Restaurant??? is far too small to cope It has no air con and the menu???? is hardly ever different The small pool is meant to be a quiet area for a bit of relaxation but Big Russian Women with unruly kids soon dispelled that myth.
I have never stayed in an all inclusive Greek hotel before and this place has made sure I don't go down that route again, but then again it was not that dear so maybe you get what you pay for but four star never ever in a month of sundays It is definitely not geared to the Brits All Inclusive was a joke We arrived too late for dinner so we got a plate with a slice of bread and cheese and an Orange. Bar didn't open until 11am serving drinks in any old glass they could find Ice cream was available only at 3pm No snacks at all outside meal times. Then when we came out of our rooms at 12-00 on out departure day they wanted to cut off our wristbands so be aware of that keep them on
Rooms weren't too bad I thought although the toilet leaked and the TV didn't work
They were kept clean ok by a hard working little girl but there weren't enough staff there and they dressed in any old sort of clothes mostly
Hotels like this are killing the local restaurants which is such a pity as they serve such lovely food and can give you such a lovely evening compared to the rubbish so called entertainment served up at the Lyda
God knows what it would be like if the Sun didn't shine
Would I return to Greece sure but to this place I cant think of words that are suitable to use

Room Tip: I don't know of any

not alot to say about this place. we ate out every night as food terrible as so did many other british guests, when going to eat out at other bars the staff would ask you must be staying at lyda to be eating out - they all knew how bad this place was for food!!!! - everyone in the surrounding bars said to us that everyone complains how bad the food is continually. if you want cheap hotel but to eat out then you will be ok here. The staff at the reception are out to get every penny off you also making you pay for air con as extra - never anywhere have we had to pay for air con extra. the hotel is full of russian guests as most other reviews say and obviously that who is the food is catered for. the only things that had a good feast here were the mosquitos every one bit every where and the hotel staff did nothing to help prevent them. also around the pool area full of ants. there is a reason the shop on site is open hours on end as its the only place to get something edible to eat! we have stayed in far better hotels than this in crete and certainly would never return here even if it was free!! - enjoy!

Room Tip: change hotel!!!!!

We came back from lyda club creete yesterday we sayed for a week can honestly say after all of the all inclusive holidays we have been on this by comparison is most Definately the worse ... My husband who is diabetic can only drink diet drinks and water went to the bar and asked for diet coke was told "no diet coke" and went to give him a monster energy drink.. After he exspained that he would be found face down I the pool after drinking that they told him 1 euro for a can of diet coke..utterly unbelivable ... We arrived early hours In the morning had a yellow wrist band slapped on our wrist and taken to our room no information on breakfast or aircon or anything in the morning went for breakfast food is very limited there Definately not a lot of coice nothing for children.. What so ever..,restaurant staff friendly to a point ... If you can ignore the flys on the food... Which is very unlikely.. And all the food from the day before mixed up and served the following day . Pools were lovely but never cleaned.. Lots if sunbeds don't be fooled by the all inclusive drinks served till 11pm then you have to pay .the only choice was beer watered down coke not real coke and local spirits after my husband rowed with the manager with regard to the drinks situation after he came to our table and counted the drinks on the table and made us feel like a bunch of idiots my husband explained that he had dietary needs... The bar staff.... If your face don't fit you've had it the pool next to the bar ran by a young lad only interred in anything a size 8 and below played the same music over and over again and the entertainment lad if that's who it was useless ....air con. 30 euro for a week DIDN'T work properly kettle 11 euro a week go over the road to the shop where the 2 crazy ladies work you could buy one for 8... The last 3 days befor te holiday we discovered a bar down the road less than 10 minutes away called rainbows run by George absolutely brilliant superb company we spent majority of our time there....if your planning on going to malea don't go by taxi cost you 55euro wait for the bus 3euro.. Hotel over run by Russians very rude very arrogant one if the children went to hit me with his plate when we were queuing for lunch.... It seems that all I have done is moan but.,,,, you couldn't fault the weather absolutely beautiful.... Will Definately NOT be returning to Greece the airport was a sham... Just be very warey if you do go to this hotel all they want us your money if you don't mind sleeping and a bed which is solid and not fussed on food but what to catch a tan this is the place for you myself and my husband will never ever set foot in this place again not ever on Greece soil...this is the second time to Greece and the last ...

A young couple who have recently stayed at the Lyda Club in Gouves. To say this is a 4* hotel I can't see it myself probably a 2-3 at best! Can't complain with the room, was cleaned regular and the hotel and restaurant was always clean. The food we had was fine for the first 2 days then it became very repetitive only changing the meat (rabbit, turkey, chicken). A lot of the food was outrageous, Carrots for breakfast with boiled eggs covered in ketchup drizzled with cheese? They seem to throw anything together, always a Greek salad to eat but who wants that every night. The choice of food is VERY limited having around 5 things to choose from altogether. Probably the worst food I've had in a hotel. There is a lovely women who works in the restaurant tho and she does help and will make you things. We were told there would be entertainment, there is non what so ever!!!! we played one game on our final night, beer pong... Trying to bounce a ping ping ball into a cup, brilliant entertainment that. The man who does this is a really nice bloke, just think he makes it up as he goes along. The two bar staff are lovely, I found the rest off the staff to be very arrogant and rude. Also the hotel is over run with Russians who are extremely rude! 100% wouldn't stay here again, and so happy we got the holiday cheap in comparison to some others!

Have stayed in what was Lyda Beach probably about 9/10 times over the past ten years. Used to be a lovely place with lovely staff Dimitris Yourges Maria Matina to name a few. Last time we were there think 2008 going downhill fast. The guy who used to look after the sunbeds on the beach was then running the hotel ! Andreas certainly did not know how th run a hotel. Last time we went to Gouves 2009 stayed in Aphrodite Beach but went up tp Lyda Beach to see our friends. No one there we knew but the infamous Andreas!! Now taken over by Russians . Food drink terrible such a shame we had such good times there. Great location but everything so rundown now. Would never go back unless it changes ownership. And it was such a great place. Shame !! Gouves village destroyed now with allinclusive hotels. People were so nice but their livelihood under serious threat as nearly all accommodation allinclusive and Nobody going to bars or restaurants.
