“Lovely stay at sweet memories apartments”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2013 via mobile

We have just returned from 11 nights staying at Sweet Memories apartments. Yannis and his family are the best ! And not forgetting Dora. We were made to feel like part of the family, mama's cooking was the best and all home made. Nothing was too much trouble for Yannis and he was great company in the evenings. Dora always had a smile on her face and worked hard keeping everyone happy. The apartments were big and spacious and I liked the fluffy bath robes touch. The beach across the road is pebbles but you don't have to walk far to find sandy beaches. All in all a lovely place and we hope to return.

We stayed at Sweet Memory for 10 nights until 27th September. We arrived late evening to be greeted by Iannis with a welcome drink of our choice. Despite the late hour he also sorted out some food for us. Throughout our holiday Iannis, Dora, Mama and Papa were lovely. We left some luggage on the transfer coach but the following morning it was waiting for us after a few calls from Iannis. The apartments are right on the beach road but the beach there is a small strip of pebbles and rock and not really suitable for use. However, walk left or right for 5 or 10 minutes and you have a choice of sandy beaches where you can either pay for 2 sunbeds and a brolly(5 or 6 euros) or put your sunmat or towel on the sand for free. The sea is lovely and very shallow for quite a way out. There is no pool but you can use one just down the road. There are lots of bars and restaurants whichever way you choose to walk. We had our evening meal at the apartments quite a few times and enjoyed Mama and Iannis' lovely homemade Cretan food. They basically do a set menu each night including a starter, main course, greek salad and dessert for 10 euros. We ate there when we fancied the menu and ate at restaurants when we didn't. Iannis was happy to recommend other restaurants to us and we were pleased we followed his recommendations.
The only negative to our stay at Sweet Memory relates to the actual apartments. We spent our first three nights in a ground floor apartment where it felt quite dark and as if we were almost underground. However we then moved to a first floor apartment which was clean and fresh and light. We discussed air conditioning with Iannis and he suggested we try a night without it and then decide. On the first floor with a beautiful sea breeze and lots of air and light we slept beautifully without air conditioning. We normally always go for air conditioning so I was impressed that Iannis didn't just take my money but actually kept 70 euros in my pocket and not in his. I would recommend Sweet Memory to anybody who wants clean, welcoming, family run accommodation but not on the ground floor. They are a lovely family who hugged us as we set off for home.

Room Tip: Go for 1st or 2nd floor

We stayed at the Sweet Memory Apartments for 10 days in September 2013. The apartment was very basic the staff were polite and it is located on the beach front as advertised. It is very good value for money, on the same holiday we stayed in Santorini for 3 days in an apartment and paid almost as much as we paid for this one but it was, to be fair, much nicer. The beach opposite is really just an area of rocks and boulders on the seafront but there is a nice sandy beach just 10 or 15 minutes along the road.
The apartments were clean enough but I like to get clean towels every day.
If you go there, pay for the air conditioning. We only paid for it on the second half of our holiday and spent the first few nights with the windows open listening to barking dogs and aeroplanes coming in to land.
We never ate here so can't comment on the food but they sell a very drinkable wine for 3 euros for a small carafe or 1 euro a glass.
The owners were very helpful any time we asked for anything.
We enjoyed out holiday and it was very good value but I don't think I'd go back.

Room Tip: For the 7 or 8 Euros a day for air conditioning, it's worth it!

we stayed at sweet memory for a week in september and it was fabulous! our apartment was very roomy and very clean!! we had everything we needed in the apartment. Our room was cool enough that we didnt need any airconditioning. after 5 minutes of speaking to yannis and his family we felt completely at home! we had free drinks when we got there with our meal which was delicious! we are vegan which can make eating food in different countrys a bit difficult but we explained this to yannis thinking a big salad would be great but instead we were told not to worry and that he would prepare us a dish every night we were there, and his food is some of the tastiest food i've ever eaten!!! each evening we had a wonderful hot meal with dora's fresh salad and to top it off some of mama's home made bread which is that tasty we ordered 2 baskets most nights! Nothing is too much trouble Yannis sorted out all our taxis and our day trips and we mentioned how we really wanted some avocado but no supermarkets sold them so next time yannis did his shopping he got us some :) ! one meal in particular he cooked for us we enjoyed that much we wanted to know how it was made so yanni gave us a mini cooking class and showed us how to make it in the kitchen and all the ingredients we needed! the beach is a five minute walk and they only charge 5 euro for 2 sunbeds and an umbrella. we checked out at 12 lunch time which was nice having that bit of extra time. our pick up wasnt till half 5 so we went to the beach when we returned yannis papa gave us the key to our room back so we could shower before we got picked up which was a nice suprise :) nothing is to much trouble! i shall be returning to sweet memory very soon!! yannis is a amazing and hillarious!! the best owner ive ever met!

My friend and I stayed here for a week in early June 2013 (apologies for the late review Yannis!)

The apartment was so much more than we expected, roomy, well appointed, clean and full of little details which elevate this place above it's rating on some sites. Shower gel and hand wash in the bathroom and even fluffy bathrobes! As we stayed on a self catering basis it was wonderful to find washing up facilities provided too.
You do have to pay for A/C but we found it wasn't needed, being so close to the beach there tends to be a breeze which keeps everything at a comfortable temperature.

From the first moment Yannis and his family made us feel welcome and that nothing was too much trouble. Even providing anti-septic for my grazed leg when I passed out coming back from the beach one day.

Yannis mum's food is gorgeous! Highly recommended at very reasonable prices for a 3 course meal, and as we found to our cost one night, essential to book for.

There is a pebbly beach opposite but there are 2 sandy beaches 5 mins and a larger sandy beach approx 10 min walk away. The shopping centre is a short walk away and boasts lots of restaurants and supermarkets with friendly staff.

The only thing I won't tell is where the bats roost is! Sorry Yannis!

We met the most welcoming Manager, Yannis and his family. We were supposed to stay at Sweet Memories apartment but they were fully booked till November! My view on the appartment was excellent! For the price you pay it is absolutely fantastic ...We are gutted not to get a chance to stay here but definitely next time. Yannis, keep up the good work!!!

We stayed at the 'Sweet Memory Apartments' in Gouves for 10 nights in August and we had a very enjoyable time.
Rooms were clean, and very spacious, nicely located and quiet.
Nothing was too much trouble for Yannis.
He made us feel welcome and went out of his way to meet all our needs.
It was lovely to sit overlooking the beach in the evening as the sun set, drinking wine and eating Mamma's home-cooked meals.
We particularly enjoyed the 'Stifado' and the 'Moussaka'!
Dora was brilliant too; providing service with a smile at every mealtime!
Not only will we be back; we will also recommend this hotel to colleagues, friends and family.
The apartments are on the coast, equidistant between two beaches within easy walking distance. There is also a very pretty but tiny Greek Orthodox Church overlooking the sea and within view of your breakfast and dinner table.

Room Tip: Rooms at the rear of the complex are the quietest, being furthest from the road out the front.
