“Amazing staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2013

I've stayed 12 days at this hotel with my wife and son (1 year).

Hotel is outstanding - i was in really spacious familly room with small kitchen, extra bed and baby bedstead. On my double bed was amazing bed mattress. Hotel is very clear.
Wifi internet is avaliable at public places and is free.

Food in restaurant was perfect with excellent selection.

It was really nice place for spend my family vacation. All was absolutely perfect and specially the staff was very helpful, friendly, courteous and knowledgeable with highly hospitality.
I had the great pleasure to experience quality services in this hotel. Starting with the restaurant service, hotel facilities and costumer care orientation everything was at the highest level. I would come back at this hotel anytime.

We've just had a lovely family holiday with our 4 and 6 year old. Spotless, child-friendly and relaxing. Great location for the beach-we only stayed a week, but wish we'd stayed 2. Would definitely recommend this.

We have just returned from overall a great holiday, we are a family of 2 adults and 1 child, when you pull up outside the hotel it states 5 star but i would give it a 3+ in British terms, although we did book as a 4 star with Jet2 so was not expecting 5, we where greeted by very friendly reception staff and shown straight to our room, we had 305 which was right by the bottom pool and on 2 floors, the room was a little dated but all very clean, the main issue with the room at this end of the hotel is it can be very noisy on an evening as the entertainment is at this end and even when this has finished 4 nights out of the 10 they continued to play music until 1am which is not ideal when you have children. Food really nice and plenty of choice, pool area's all fine and plenty of sun bed's, my only comment on these would be the mattresses, these where never changed in the 10 nights we where there and I know a previous review stated this and the hotel advised these where changed and cleaned every few days but they definitely where not, I know you use towels on top but even so they should be changed, they could also do with more umbrellas at the bottom pool. There is only one bar tender so on an evening the queue got quite long and as soon as the time gets to 10.45pm they close the AI, ideally they need at least 2 serving. All the staff where very friendly and helpful and we had a good and relaxing holiday, the hotel only needs to improve a few small things to make this a good 4 star like have the kids drinks available for them to help themselves this then means they don't need to queue at the bar, have ice creams and snacks available at both bars, and maybe offer waiter drinks service at dinner to make it a bit more formal.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the top end of the hotel near the restaurant.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2013

Let’s get one thing clear. This hotel is not a 5 star by English standards. I’m not even sure it’s a 5 star by Greek standards, although it may have been when it first opened in the late 80’s. That saying, there are a lot of good things to say about it. The trouble is, it is now a bit shabby.
We were given a room overlooking the top pool (922) and the view was great and quiet at night. This was our honeymoon and the location was perfect as we didn’t want to listen to revellers all night long at the bar. It would appear that we had been given a family room that had been used for self- catering in a previous life. There were four beds, a kitchenette and a toilet/ bathroom. There was also a balcony. The downside was that the kettle didn’t work properly and the bathroom had a habit of overflowing after we had used the shower. The shower was also temperamental as there were a couple of occasions when it didn’t work. A quick phone call to reception soon sorted that out.
The bed was also extremely uncomfortable.
We also had problems with the air conditioning and it finally broke a week into the holiday. We were provided with a stand-alone fan, which although not ideal, was sufficient until they fixed the air conditioning the following morning.
The standard of food was good and varied, although until last week, I had never seen anybody eat raspberry jelly and chips from the same plate. The hotel can’t be blamed for the eating habits of the guests though!
When we read the hotel website, it said that one of the pools was for adults and the other was for children. This was clearly not the case. The top pool had a ‘boom box’ blaring out music all day long with an annoying Animation team trying to force people to join in with their irritating games. As I mentioned, this was my honeymoon, and I wanted to relax, not listen to three idiots shouting “Ah Ah” like an untalented Alan Partridge every thirty seconds. We decided to go the bottom pool half way through the first day and stayed there throughout the holiday. The kids pool was more pleasant.
The website also suggested that male guests had to wear trousers, rather than shorts at dinner. This was also not the case and guests could wear as little as they pleased. Not a pleasant sight in some cases.
The animation team were absolutely dreadful. I’ve already mentioned the three idiots, but this doesn’t do them justice. It was worse than watching the Krankies and the Chuckle brothers put together. Untalented oafs. Every night guests had to listen to the same awful music, pathetic quizzes and bloody bingo. My god.
Only one bar was open in the evening and the all- inclusive deal finished at 22:45. Only one member of staff served throughout the night and the queuing system meant that it could take 15 minutes to get a drink. Speaking of which, the quality of drinks was very poor. I ordered a straight vodka and it was completely tasteless. I’m not even sure there was any vodka in it.
I don’t know why the bar at the top pool wasn’t open in the evening. If it had been open, this would have given guests that didn’t want to be involved with Animation team to have a quiet drink in a chilled atmosphere. As it was, the choices were to sit on your own balcony or go out to a local bar/ restaurant. We did both rather than sit with a bunch of children (adult and junior).
The bottom pool needs some work on it. One of lights in the pool had a loose wire that hung in the water and the wooden surround needs replacing, along with some of the tiles. The bar also needs repainting as it seems to have reached the end of its shelf life.
Good points? The staff members were really friendly (I am not including the Animation idiots in this small tribute), especially Benny, Lena and Marie. The food was good. The rooms were kept reasonably clean every other day. Oh, and we finally received our ‘Welcome’ bottle of wine as we checked out.

Room Tip: Room by the top pool is quieter in the evening, although the beds are as hard as Vinnie Jones

George P, Manager at St. Constantin Hotel, responded to this review, September 3, 2013
Dear Mr. tony p,
We would like to thank you for preferring our Hotel on your recent holidays in Crete this August. We take seriously all of our guests’ remarks, so that we will improve our services every day. Also we would like to congratulate you for your marriage and we wish you all the best.
We feel very sorry though that we did not fulfill all your expectations. First of all we would like to inform you that our Hotel meets all the necessary criteria for the 5 stars distinction according to the Greek Ministry of Tourism. We are not aware of the British standards for the 5 stars but the Greek standards are known for their strictness around the world. Also we would like to notify that our hotel operates successfully for the last 15 years now and not from the 1980 as you mentioned in your review.
Since you came on a honeymoon to our Hotel, you were given one of our best rooms for this occasion. We would like to thank you for your compliments about our room and we are very pleased that you enjoyed it. As it concerns about the problems you faced in your room we apologise, but as soon as you reported them to the reception they were fixed right away. The air-condition malfunction occurred because the external unit had been damaged because of the many power cuts we had that day and it had to be replaced, so we had to order a new one. The new one came the next morning and as you mentioned in your review it was fixed immediately. We are very surprised though that you found your bed uncomfortable because we have changed the mattresses in most of our rooms with new ones, before the beginning of the season.
We would like to inform you that our Hotel has 3 outdoor pools, 2 for adults and 1 for kids. Our main pool which is located in the southern part of the hotel is used from the animation team during the day. We have never had any complaints from our guests about the music at the pool or the games that the animation team and our guests are playing every day. In contrast most of our guests find very entertaining the work that they do in the pools. We are very sorry but we can not accept your comments about the animation team because they are insulting and not true. The animation team consists of professional people who try very hard to entertain all of our guests every day and night. For your information their daily schedule includes water gymnastics, water polo, water volley ball, stretching and many more. Nothing as you describe in your review. At the night shows they always start with mini disco for kids followed by a different sketch such as dancing show, quiz, bingo, karaoke, cabaret etc.
Concerning your complaint about the pool bar all-inclusive hours we would like to inform you that since you have visited our website you should have read our all inclusive program and its services. There is written clearly the opening hours of all the facilities of our Hotel including the pool bars. In addition you were given the all inclusive program when you checked in to our hotel. Furthermore we would like to notify that the pool bar at the main pool is the snack bar “Kalypso” and it works from 10:30am to 17:45pm and it serves only beer, coffee and soft drinks. All the alcoholic drinks are being served at the main pool bar “Dionysos” during 10:30am to 22:45pm in all inclusive hours. We are very sorry if you were in a queue for 15’ waiting for your drink. This is something we will take seriously under consideration and we will examine your proposal about having both pool bars open a night.
In conclusion we would like to thank you for your kind words about our staff and our food quality. All the staff here at St. Constantin Hotel tries their best to offer to our guests the best and quality services. In the end we would like to thank you for your kind words about our cleanliness.
Once again, please accept our apologies and thank you. We are looking forward to welcoming you back to offer you a genuine 5 Star Greek Hospitality, here at the St. Constantin Hotel.

Yours Sincerely,
Georgios K. Pagonakis
Manager of St. Constantin Hotel

just back from two weeks stay.... and want to go back now!.... fantastic rooms , very spacious, air con that works, great shower with lots of hot water.....food in restaurant was very tasty and varied.... especially liked the gyros and the champagne brunch! everywhere is kept spotlessly clean by the friendliest cleaning staff. both the animation team and the bar staff go out of their way to make you feel welcome and the reception staff and management offer a very efficient and professional service to ensure you have the best time ever.... cannot say one bad word about this hotel and highly reccomend staying there... I will be back as soon as i can manage it!

This was our best holiday by far! In a nutshell, the bar staff, waiters (Nikos, you're a true gentleman), entertainment team, cleaners and chef were so friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble.

The pools were clean, the sunbeds soooo comfy. The food was excellent and fresh. The snacks by the pool were plentiful and kept Henry going throughout the day.

The entertainment staff were great! They really tried to get everyone involved without being too pushy. Gabriel's aqua gym is the hardest!!!

We made some great friends on this holiday and would not hesitate to go back. Well done ST Constantine!!!!!
