“Immaculate food lets it down”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 11, 2013

We booked after reading the reviews, the Blue Aegean is immaculate and the young lady who cleans the rooms works non stop, the pool area is immaculate. Lovely and quiet even when full, no shortage of sunbeds. Only a couple of issues that stopped me giving 5*s. Breakfast and Lunch can't actually find fault with, always good choice, but for what ever reason dinner was a let down. the food was not hot, but overcooked but saying that they had a chef out front ( not every night) cooking specials that were hot and good. I know its a matter of choice but eating plain pasta over a course of nights not my idea of value for money and we are not fussy eaters. We ate out 4 nights out of 10 and Ilios cafe/restaurant and the bottom of the road was great. Service at the bar during the day was shocking, even served on several occasions by a 10/11year old girl though she served a better pint than most of the barmen. Would I go back? for the hotel itself Yes but not all inclusive. Good location but the area itself is very quiet couple of restaurants and one bar, couple of supermarkets but suited us.

The first time I came to this hotel it was newly opened. We really liked the hotel and since then we've been here 6 times (5 years in a row). It's a very family friendly hotel with excellent facilities. The staff and owner are very polite, helpful and friendly and this hasn't changed since the hotel opening. The hotel rooms are cleaned every day and are always spotless. There's always things to do for the children and aswell as at night when theres different nights such as Greek Night. I've had some of the best memories here as a child and so did my parents. You make some friends for life and I'd strongly recommend this hotel to anyone as in my opinion its the best hotel in Gouves!!!!!!

A fabulous holiday!

Inbound flight

The crew and Captain on the inbound flight to Crete were really lovely. Very friendly and approachable. Our 7 year old son, Tom loves planes, and even though it was early hours of the morning when we landed in Crete the crew arranged for him to go and meet the Captain. The Captain warmly greeted us and showed us the cockpit and explained about the controls. It was a really special treat, one which Tom and our other two children (or us for that matter,) will not forget!

Transfer

The transfer from the airport to the hotel was approximately 10 minutes. The coach dropped us off on the main beach road in Gouves, just a short walk from the Blue Aegean Hotel. (The rep hadn't been to the hotel before, but after asking he finally escorted us to our hotel!)

We arrived at 2am, with three very tired but excited children and were met with a warm smile by Alex (Manilos' son), who made us feel very welcome and at ease. He gave us our wristbands as we stayed on an All inclusive basis and took us to our apartment, (which was all prepared for the children to go straight to bed) and left us to settle for the night.

Our apartment was perfectly located on the poolside. It was very spacious with a lounge/kitchen area, bathroom and a master bedroom. The lounge area had sofa beds for the children and an extra z bed for our little girl, Elena. All of which were very comfortable and made up every day (except Sunday, of course) by the maid. She was very thorough and always added little touches like sitting the children's bears on the bed or folding Elena's dress ready for her, later that day. It was always left spotlessly clean and we were always greeted with a hello and a smile. The air conditioning was a very welcome addition for us and gave us respite from the heat whilst in the apartment. Temperatures reached mid thirties, it was wonderful!

The Pool

The Blue Aegean has a really lovely swimming pool and a smaller paddling pool for the younger guests. Both are really wonderful and were never overcrowded. The poolside is spacious and there are ample amounts of sun loungers, in addition to your patio furniture. The area is kept immaculately clean. It is cleared each evening and then a team come out early in the morning (with ninja stealth) and sweep and hose down the area, it is spotless!

Our children played in the pool religiously every day (except on two occasions when we went to explore the island. ) They were so happy and made lots of lovely friends and we were happy, as we were confident that it was clean and safe.

The Bar and Restaurant.

We stayed on an all inclusive basis which meant drinks, food and ice creams were included (as always some exceptions apply.) Theo who worked in the bar, always greeted us with a smile and was always very helpful and friendly.

We have three children two of which are boys Tom (7) and Jake (11) who may be responsible for the increase in food consumption for the period of 30/7-9/8! We had read reviews in which people complained about the quantity of food, but I can honestly say (even with Jake and Tom eating their own weight in food, there was always ample food and it was always very tasty. Athina was always there managing things to ensure the food kept flowing.

I have food allergies and find it difficult to eat out, but I enjoyed two cooked meals a day. George the Chef came out to cook the specials, which were offered in addition to a selection of other foods that he and his team cooked. The children enjoyed a variety of foods to include souvlaki, moussaka, veal and many other dishes they had never tried.

Manilos or (Maniboss, as our little girl Elena, named him!) Has worked hard with the support of his family to create a gem of a hotel. It is family run with his sons Alex, Stefanos and Dimo and other family members all working together to make it a success. The Team, Athina, Elena, George, Mary, Theo, Xristos (and all of those we didn't meet, but who helped make our holiday special) were second to none. They work tirelessly, they are so efficient and obliging. They offer warm welcomes to all and we offer them our thanks.

We stayed for 10 nights and during that time we had the privilege of getting to know them.

Would we return? Honestly... we didn't want to leave! See you all soon.

Thank you!

Niki, Richard, Jake, Tom and Elena xxx

Great place, great location.
Just got back from a week at the Blue Aegean and had a wonderful time. We were self catering so can't comment on the food but the facilities suited very well. The apartment was spacious, very clean (the maid visited each day apart from Sunday) and a short walk (i.e. 8 yards) from the excellent pool. Plenty of sunbeds available and plenty of room around the pool. The place is situated a short walk from the beach road where there are a few good restaurants and shops, other restaurants are a nice stroll away - our favourite was the Two Friends (first on left after the little church).
Staff were helpful and before leaving on the last day, after checking out at 12 noon, we were given 4 large towels to use in the available (& clean) shower facilities.
Any negatives? Well, the aircon is an extra cost of between 50 & 65 euros a week so budget for that if not included in your package holiday and the Cosmos reps were rubbish, but that isn't the fault of the Blue Aegean.
Would we go back to the Blue Aegean - 100% yes.

What a jewel of a hotel with very high standard of hygiene and cleanliness, rooms or apartment very spacious, the beds are very comfortable. Came for a fortnight on an all inclusive and enjoyed the food for the first week, took a lot of days out on trips but sadly found the second week, the menu to be a repeat of the first week (the only difference being the desserts). No complaint on the food, presentations, taste and plentiful as that was very good but could see how other write ups indicated a blandness of the menu. This being the only critical observation.
Loved the Cretean night - sadly not enough of the good cretean menu (food and the old Raki) that I have come to love while staying at other hotels on the island.
All the staff are welcoming and nothing is too small for them to make your holiday the best and relaxing.
It was the first time we had met any of the Baltic nations (do not think they were all Russians) but would say they are ruder than the Germans ( we have met a lot of Germans over the years even with the language barrier they will always pass the time of day)

Room Tip: all the rooms are the same quality and of a high standard but be aware that you are on the flight pa...

We have just returned from a week at the Blue Agean and were sad to leave. There were three of us us in the apartment which was spacious, spotlessly clean and a good size balcony overlooking the lovely pool.
The staff are very pleasant and helpful and we felt Manalos the Manager was always overseeing the smooth running of the complex and making sure guests were happy.
The food was plentiful and fresh, a good selection catering to all tastes, we enjoyed our meals. The specials each evening were cooked by the chef in the dining area, a nice touch.
We would recommend this hotel and say thank you to all the staff for their attention to detail and great service.

Room Tip: Choose room overlooking the pool, very pleasant.

We were here 4-6-13 to 12-6-13. I would recommend this place to everyone, the food was great, and the staff were very friendly. It's a very family orientated place, so adults and kids will be very happy here. The beach is a stones throw away, but there is a great pool so it's win win really. There is a local bus service that is very cheap so you can afford day trips to other places. If you miss one bus there every 10 minutes ish. This was my first time here and I enjoyed every minute, I would like to thank management and all the staff for a very relaxing stay and I hope to be back next year.
