“Hills have eyes dont go.... Worse hotel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2013 via mobile

Dont go. Believe me this is the holiday from hell. Rooms are crap dated like butlins in the 50s. No kettle or hot water facility for babies bottles. No shower holder. When you emptied the bath the water backed up into the bathroom grid in middle of the floor. Grim! Air con crap. Blew hot air. Maid service poor.. Never had clean towels. Spattered mostiques everywhere. No english channels. Hairdryer poor. No minibar.
All inclusive drinks bad. No red wine. But for 20 € you can buy one. Joke. Food was crap. We ate out at Spyros in the village alot now that was amazing.
Twatos the male fire breathing singing dancing its all about me show man entertainer was funny to watch he loved himself so much that if he was chocolate he would eat himself. We buzzed off him doing water aerobics with a watered down beer or ouzo daily. Well there wasnt anything else to drink.
The staff were rude unhelpful and couldntt crack a smile. Like the russians who barged pass you and dont cue polietely. They push you out the way. Arrogant! Receptionists were getting loads of complaints but just fobbing people off. No fresh water you had to pay for that at the shop. Dead expensive too. You had to pay for cocktails or upgrade to a band which cost 9€ a day. That was only local spirits not cocktails. You had to pay 2€ for the kids rides n merry go around that lasts 30 seconds. Only positive is water Slides were free... And good laugh.
dont waste your money its crap a real dive. And the jet2 rep is a miserable mare only out to get your spends for bad trips n boat excursions. She is terrible at her job and has a face like a bulldog chewing a wasp. We had two small children and she done nothing to help us move rooms or hotels unless we paid 300 quid more. The place is set in an hills have eyes setting empty half build houses loads of scruffy fields with rubbish..... Not were a family would feel safe walking around. Trust me this should be banned from brochures!!!!!!!

A group of 7, 4 adults and 3 kids, stayed in this hotel 2 weeks ago for 7 days. The kids had a okish time but I wasn't impressed. The family room that was advertised for us was meant to be like a studio with the adult bed been on like an upstairs balcony, well it wasn't, our room was dated, with 2 single beds and 2 sofa beds. The bathroom was dirty and worm out, there was nothing on the wall to hold the shower up and no plug for a bath. The rooms were cleaned daily but for some reason we were never given clean towels, we left them in the bath or floor in front of the door but they were never changed.

Sunbeds were only available if you got up at 7 am to put towels on.

The hotel is no where near a 4 star hotel. The only part 4 star about the hotel was the reception.

The hotel was also full of ignorant rude Russians. They would push in the queues for food and also for the drinks at the bar. Food was horrible. I pretty much lived on rice, bread and chips for the whole week, the kids were the same. The chicken weren't cooked properly either. However the restaurant manager was lovely, friendly and very helpful, there was also a waitress that had a constant smile on her face which I though was lovely.

I found that the bar staff were also rude.

Entertainment was poor to ok. Through the day there were lots for the children to day, dancing, kids club, water aerobics and yoga. Night time entertainment was very poor. None of the entertainment was held at the main seating area, you had to come away and go to where it was on. The kids disco was more for children of I found 2-4 years of age. The main entertainment didn't start until 10pm which we found was late.
There was 1 show on that was bogged up a lot as being amazing. It was a transvestite show, which is homosexual men dressing as ladies, this was just men in dresses with balloons down their tops, it was terrible.

The slides were amazing, you will never get bored on the slides and fully supervised by 2 life guards. There were glazed tiles all around the pools which is a very silly idea as it was very slippery and dangerous. Children were sliding all over and slipping and cracking their heads on the floor.

The on site shop it outrageously priced. 1 pack of wipes was priced at €8!!!! Yep you read that right.

The beach is only a 5 minute walk away which was a good day. There isn't really much else in gouves, a couple of supermarkets and bars. Everything else is half build or abandoned. Really isn't anything nice to look at.

All in all it was a waste if money and I will never go back to that hotel or gouves in that matter. There's better places to go so save your money.

Despite the negative aspects of this hotel we had a very enjoyable week in Gouves however we did spend a lot of time outside of the hotel. Do not travel to this hotel if you’re expecting a 4* experience, even by Greek standards its very much 3* in quality. I would not recommend this hotel for couples as it if very much a family, no frills experience. I expected a little bit more for my money and will not be going back here anytime soon. Travelled as a couple in September 2013.

Rooms - The hotel in general is quite dated, the rooms particularly so, however our room was clean and air conditioned. The en-suite was basic with no holder on the wall for the shower head and a shower curtain that had seen better days.

Food - The food was not bad in terms of quality if a little repetitive, however meal times were far from relaxing with the restaurant having a food hall atmosphere. Although some of the fruit was fresh, a lot of the fruit served was tinned and the fruit juices available were not fruit juices and merely fruit flavoured drinks. If you go to restaurant during busy periods you will struggle to find a table, with little to no assistance offered from the hotel staff. As a result of the chaos we ate out at nearby restaurants most evenings, the nearby restaurants offer a very goof standard of food at a reasonable price.

Drinks - The all inclusive drinks on offer during our stay were Beer, Wine, Raki, Ouzo and Brandy. This was made clear at the time of booking, however, in comparison with other hotels this selection is poor. The drinks during the day are served in very small plastic cups, and although you can go back as many times as you like the staff at the pool bar were not friendly and often there were longish queues. The wine was of poor quality and as a result we bought our own during our stay from a local shop to enjoy in the room. You had to serve yourself to get soft drinks and having ice was not an option.

My biggest gripe with the drinks on offer however is the complete lack of drinking water on offer anywhere near our room. We had to purchase bottled water from the onsite shop everyday and although the cost is insignificant I was particularly annoyed at having this inconvenience to enjoy a basic requirement when we have paid for an 'all inclusive holiday'

Entertainment - The entertainment offered by the hotel is focused around the children, which was not a problem for me as I had no real intention of partaking in any of the entertainment during our stay. However I was not prepared for how in your face some of it would be. At two or three times a day the same music would blare out on repeat from the pool bar area at deafening levels so there was no escaping it wherever you are in the hotel.

Swimming Pools - All of the pools were very overcrowded during our stay and unless you get up at 7am each day to get a lounger you will struggle to find a good spot. The slides to the 'water park' are very good.

Beach - By far the best aspect of this hotel is the nearby sandy beach. Two loungers and a parasol can we rented from the smile bar for 5 euro a day including a bottle of water. We did this most days to avoid the noise from the hotels entertainment and overcrowded pools.

WiFi - In my opinion the hotel should not be able to state they offer free wifi access. Occasionally if you are lucky you may find some access in reception but do not rely on this if you need internet access for work etc as it is unreliable at best.

I went with my wife and son with a degree of trepidation due to its mixed reviews. However I was pleasantly surprised. Rooms spacious and spotlessly clean. The food wasn't a la carte but again what can you expect for a price of less than £400 per week per person and that includes everything. There was always something to eat and was fresh. The breakfast choice was comparable to a better class of hotel A mention must be made of the dinning room manager George whose professionalism and the way he introduced himself to all new guests was a prime example of good customer service. All staff were polite and friendly. The all inclusive drinks again weren't the best quality but again for the price perfectly acceptable and I didn't witness the long wait that previous posters have described. The hotel has a private area on beach where I was charged 5 euros per day for three sun loungers and umbrella. Again I thought this was reasonable. The hotel has a bar adjacent to beach called Smiles a good place for a drink. 3.50 euros for two beers. All guests of hotel get 20per cent of drinks bill. Gouves the place I feel has an air of a resort that has seen better days and could not be described as lively. However there are some pleasant bars on the waterfront which are good for an evening drink and a change of scenery from hotel. You can catch the bus from main road,a 10 minute walk, buses go every 15 minutes to Malia and capital helikron. We took a trip to Malia one day which was interesting and made a change. All in all go with an open mind and you will enjoy the Cretan people were friendly, polite and always pleased to help.

ok you will have read about the food, just to add not Greek food more tailored to the Russian diet, remember the white food diet? you get my drift. staff good & friendly, we hired a car for the second week because we had seen everything in the local village cheap public transport to local towns for days out not an easy walk to the bus stop if your mobility not good - had a good time but that was more to do with family that was there - do not expect courtesy from your fellow holiday makers from eastern Europe, nuff said

Room Tip: hire a car for better local beeches and days out - local hire shop 80 euros for a small car for a we...

We came at the end of August. We paid about £22/person, all inclusive, per night. Negatives were that it was a yomp to our apartment but the hotel took us & cases down on a golf trolley. The room was basic, a bit tired but very well maintained.AC was free and effective though there was a safe charge. Beach/ pool towel hire was operating and fair (3 euros to change the beach towels).Reception staff acted as excellent managers and acted immediately in response to requests.. The restaurant manager was outstanding. Restaurant food was OK, though how they did that within budget is mind boggling. The cooked breakfasts were exceptional. The hotel discount got us 2 sunbeds on the beach, a brolly and a bottle of water. Staff were hard working, pleasant & polite. Management and staff had great rapport.

I came hotel with my two daughters and there friend we stayed in one apartment and also came with my daughters other with her mum and sister who stayed in another apartment.
Apartment was clean maids did good job cleaning in everyday. In my apartment there was 3 coaches and in room was 2 single beds.
Food in restaurant was very disappointing mainly salads food was the same every day.
Lack of drinks aswell in pool bar and sorts bar only had wine, beer, raki, ouzo which wasn't very nice and didn't have bottled drinks. Entertainment was good animation team work so hard doing Zumba, aqua gym, shows etc.
One of the pools turned green near end of the week stay think they only clean it on Thursdays.
Slides was great fun the pools wasn't deep the water only came up to shoulders.
The hotel is located in an area were not much is beach 2 minute walk away from hotel bus stop is 10 minute walk which would take you to Heraklion, hersonissos,Malia etc
Shop In hotel is quite expensive bit of a rip off after coming to this hotel not sure i want to go all inclusive again because it was first time all inclusive
