“Will definitely be back”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2013 via mobile

Recently stayed here! Would like to say a big Thank You to all of the bar, spa, reception & waiting staff(and any others if haven't mentioned)

without the staff it just wouldn't be the same!

From the bright smile of the young manageress Helen, to the superb service from both Tina and Ashley, it just made me feel so welcome!

Thank You and we'll be back soon!

Hi,
I've never written a bad review before but after shelling out the guts of £200 for an overnight stay I've got to say this place left a bad taste in the mouth. Bullet bad points for the hotel to work on:
1.3pm check in time is far too late in the day. If I've spent £108 on a room I'd like at least 24hrs out of it
2. Matthew, when giving someone the choice between fine dining & pub food could you also give the choice of seeing a menu for both instead of leaving me guessing as what is available.
3. The jacuzzi was freezing.
4.the spa facility is trying to be too many things and ends up not very relaxing at all. It's either a pool, gym or spa. Might as well throw a Chinese takeaway in there as well.
5. We went for the pub food...situated above the pool/gym/spa...we must just have been unlucky cause hardly any staff, guy couldn't find our booking by Matthew & dinner took about an hour to come to us from ordering.
6. Upon checking out got hit with an outstanding £11 bill....this was the bit that really got me. I spent £50 booking dinner & then got told that didn't cover the 1 pint, coke and bottle of water we had with dinner (btw Matthew, next time you say "Water and ice are complementary" at check in might want to say "but no with yer dinner" just for us dumb folk.)
After a wee discussion with the girl at the desk she agreed to use the £10 gift thing that we got for booking direct to clear our bill. Honestly felt like they were trying to rip me off......I was furious.
Thank god for the wee blether inn down the road....loved that wee place.
Wife is going to write to you direct in case you miss this.
Room was ok....no massive but big and clean enough...about the only saving grace.
Thanks
Jamie.

Stayed for one night with friends, wish we had booked for longer. We found that all the staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and spacious, although a bit cold on arrival it soon warned up once the wall heater was switched on. We ate in the main dining room - good choice of food on the menu - the four of us each had something different from the menu, the food was very well presented and was very enjoyable. Breakfast also was very good - plenty to choose from. We had been a bit concerned by previous reports on trip advisor, we found no fault.

Thank you McGfalkirk for your positive comments that you have given our hotel and the food you received. I know our chef, David and his team are incredibly dedicated to producing the finest dishes sourced from the best ingredients.
Why not stay for longer next time and perhaps try one of our new winter breaks, I can thorughly recommend the whisky break!

Kind regards

Everyone at the hotel was superb from the moment we checked in til when we left. Cannot fault all staff we came into contact with. Especially reception and waitress who checked us in for breakfast both days. Room was fabulous (bathroom ok but some facilities not 100% but all working). Everything was above our expectations. Please pass on our thanks and gratitude

We only stayed the one night, but thoroughly it. We upgraded our room and could not have been more pleased, wonderful grounds and the best views ever. When we arrived at reception we were very warmly welcomed by Matthew who was most helpful in every way. We had our meal in the Garden Restaurant and we were not disappointed, wonderful meal and could I please pass on our compliments to the chef, as my husband and I had the best steak ever. We will definitely be returning and for more than one night.

Yes this isn't the Mandarin Oriental , but I wasn't expecting it to be.
What it is...is a lovely old characterful Scottish hotel that does have a few faded edges (especial the corridor to my room)but has much to commend it .
The drive to the hotel, and the views are stunning. The gardens a joy, even in winter...sitting on the terrace in the sunshine was just heaven.
My room (a standard) was huge and well maintained, yes as others have said... bit of flowery curtain décor going on, but most comfortable, huge bed,, and huge seating area with sofa .Totally acceptable, ( executive refurbished rooms available at a slightly higher price)
The hotel restaurant was a pleasure....great views again, lovely service and good food at both breakfast & dinner.( We didn't eat in the bistro, so cant comment.)
Last but not least, lovely helpful staff. Very impressed with the young South African gentleman who took care of us at dinner....., all the receptionists, especially charming Mathew and the young lady who went over and beyond her remit and checked me in for my return flight.
Cloud was just being installed...so there should be no more internet problems.
What's not to like....be open minded and enjoy.

We stayed here for 3 nights as part of a group attending a family wedding in the locality. The room was very pleasant and breakfast in the Garden Restaurant was very good. The staff in the hotel were friendly and helpful and the grounds were well maintained. However we all felt that Rafters Bar and Bistro (located in the leisure centre) was disappointing. The bar and dining area felt like a large open space, lacking in atmosphere, and the food was at best ordinary. All in all it is a pity that this area lets the rest of the hotel down.

Many thanks for your comments courtneyfish. I am sorry to hear that you did not enjoy the food that you received in Rafters whilst staying at with us. It is always our intention that our guests receive an enjoyable experience nd we would strive to improve this where this has not been the case. The bistro itself is undergoing refurbishment later this month which I am confident will enhance the atmosphere and enjoyment for our guests.

Kind regards
