“A luxury nights stay while touring The Trossachs”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2013

We stayed here for a luxury treat whilst touring the Trossachs, as I like the MacDonalds brand, and have stayed in many of their hotels, but not this one.

We were upgraded to an executive room, overlooking the amin entrance road at side of building. Very comfortable room, lovely location with great views of Loch Ard.

We enjoyed the pool area, with jacuzzi and steam room, did not use sauna as it was 25 degrees outside and we wanted to cool down.

Would definitely recommend to anyone, but if you are not a confident driver, or arriving winter, would recommend arriving from Callander via Port of Menteith road rather than Dukes Pass, avoiding steep hills and hairpin bends.

Stayed here for one week. The hotel rooms are excellent and very clean. Location with stunning views. Very good swimming pool and fitness centre. The breakfast was excellent with a large choice. Evening meal was slightly disappointing in the Rafters Bar which was a very drab green colour and quite dark . The staff did their best and were very helpful but there was no change in the menu for the whole week we were there. Food was fine though. This is meant to be helpful as most people were not eating in the Garden Restaurant which was 'a la carte'. However this would not put me off staying again as I think further refurbishment is going on now..

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Forest Hills Resort, we were in a lodge as opposed to the Hotel, but the facilities were first class. We ate in Rafters one night and had the special Scottish Themed meal and it was delicious, the service too was absolutely first class.

Loved this hotel. Room was nice and comfy, staff were friendly, food was suberb. The location though, topped off everything. Stunning views, beautiful and serene. If I could be picky about anything it would be the poor range of tv channels and lack of phone signal (which I appreciate has nothing to do with the hotel however)- I feel the hotel should offer free wifi without a doubt. Used the leisure club which has a great sized pool, clean and tidy.
Would definitely go back and recommend to families too as there is an activity centre just offsite of the hotel.

A beautiful hotel in a beautiful location. We booked a spa over night stay with a massage included for my husbands birthday. The spa was fantastic. Lovely big pool, sauna and steam room. the massage was also brilliant - This was a first massage for both of us and the girls were both really lovely and put us at ease.
We paid extra for a room with a balcony and a view of the loch. Our room had both of these, technically - but it was on the ground floor so we didn't use the balcony as people were walking straight past and it felt a bit weird. If you pay for one of these rooms I would recommend that you request a first floor room.
We went for our evening meal at "rafters" their bistro and bar as we felt that we fancied somewhere with a more relaxed atmosphere. DONT EAT HERE! The service was terrible and the food was worse. It looked and felt like it was a caravan park bar. I ordered lasagne thinking that you cant go far wrong with that. It was disgusting. The pasta was rock hard and inedible. The meal cost £40. 4* prices. 1* food service and atmosphere. We had breakfast in the the hotel restaurant which was lovely. I just wish we'd eaten dinner there too. We will be back and I would recommend that people go as it is really really nice, just would be careful about the room and avoid rafters.

I recently spent a night at this hotel and i have to say, i loved the location and the spa. My partner and myself had two treatments each in the spa and i found them to be the best i have ever had, the staff were very attentive and all our needs were catered to. We then spent the night in the hotel, our room was spacious but i didnt feel that it was worth the price if i am honest. The staff could not have been nicer and we had a lovely breakfast in the morning. I was disappointed that you had to pay for the wifi, £5.99 for 90 minutes, which i felt was expensive, and there is no phone recpetion whatsoever in the hills, which i know is not the hotels fault, but this would put me off staying for more than one or two nights. I would reccomend this hotel for the location alone, best thing about the trip.

This property combines a hotel (part of which is currently being extended/upgraded) with time share, self-catering lodges/apartments and a large leisure/wellness area (with large indoor pool, fitness room and wellness facility) - all of which are located in a generous garden by the side of Loch Ard in one of the most beautiful parts of Scotland (the Trossachs) barely 75 minutes from downtown Glasgow.
The hotel facilities include good-sized and comprehensively equipped rooms - however, with UK-typical low water pressure in the shower and a limited choice of television channels. Staff are friendly and extremely helpful (without exception) and the hotel's main restaurant offers imaginative menus, well and freshly prepared. As an alternative, the Rafters Bar above the Vital leisure centre offers simpler food complementing its pub style and atmosphere.
All in all, a hotel not to miss on a tour of Scotland or as a base for exploring the wild and romantic beauty of the Trossachs (but bring anti-midge repellent to enjoy it to the full)!
