“Superb week, couldn't fault it”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2013

We have just comeback from a week at this resort with another couple. We stayed in one of the 2 bed self catering apartments. With a view over the loch and beautifully furnished throughout you couldn't ask for more.
The ladies used the Spa severally times, we all used the pool facilities after a day out walking.
I can't comment on the restaurant or bar as we either ate in or at one of the pubs/restuarants when out and about.
A bit bemused why someone recently posted they felt trapped once at the hotel as Aberfoyle is only 10 mins [4miles] drive away.

Our stay was unfortunately for only one night. We had great room on 2nd floor of the main hotel building. It was spacious, well appointed, clean, with a great bed and wonderful view over the gardens. We had opted for a dinner, bed and breakfast package which was great value. Service at both dinner and breakfast was efficient and pleasant, and the food was very, very good. We wished we had arranged our travel to stay longer. Drinks were quite pricey, but they came with olives and nuts which were delicious and overall we thought represented a reasonable pice. No wifi available directly through hotel but expensive external packages were available. We would certainly return...it was a great experience

By the time you've driven the long road to Forest Hills, you're pretty much obliged to spend the evening. My room was in the main hotel, on the ground floor, and rather old and damp-smelling. I had to keep the curtains closed, since every passer-by could see directly into my room. Being on a (tiny) budget we opted for the 'Bistro', a sort of a dimly lit bar with a basic restaurant attached. The choice of draught beers is Heineken or Amstel (both Dutch lagers!!! Why?) The first round of drinks was one pint of Amstel and a single gin with tonic. Over a tenner! Yes, more than ten quid. The food was edible pub grub, a very small choice, with prices a bit on the high side, but not outrageous like the drink. Being a business trip we had no time to try the other facilities, and perhaps they make up for the other shortcomings, but I won't be rushing back, business or pleasure.

Room Tip: Don't stay on the ground floor of the main building unless you're an exhibitionist.

Enjoyed a spa break at the Forest Hills Hotel - weather was absolutely glorious which made the gorgeous views even more stunning. Grounds of the hotel are really lovely. One thing to mention before you go is that you don't get any phone signal or wifi - nice for a break away from it mind you!
When we arrived we went to the gym and pool and then had a spa treatment - massage was amazing! We had also booked a table for dinner in the Bar Bistro when we checked in.
After getting ready we went for dinner, however the girl at reception had forgot to book our table and the manager at the Bistro was really rude. It was busy and he seemed flustered but there was not one apology and basically said "Its not my problem". My boyfriend was appalled and went to complain to the reception, we then had to wait half an hour for a table. We received a free glass of wine at dinner, however didn't feel it was good enough for the way we were treated. The Bistro is not as nice as the rest of the hotel - its like a big function room with frosted windows blocking the lovely views! Bar is at the back with big sofas spread out, had a really weird feel to it! Food was also very, very average... my salmon in particular was not appetising at all and kind of flung on the plate. Drinks at the bar are very expensive too.
However, we did have a lovely stay. Rooms were spotless and comfortable with amazing views! Was fab waking up and going to the gym and for a swim. Breakfast was good and the service was great at breakfast compared to dinner.
The bad dinner would not stop us returning - only we would stay in a lodge and cook in ourselves.

I have stayed at forest hills many times, but it has been around 6/7 years since I last visited. The scenery and landscaping is all that you could wish for. Rather than stay in the confines of the hotel, if you are able to stay for 3 nights plus take one of the self catering lodges (you can arrange through Macdonalds or Hoseasons). They are really well equipped and sleep 4/6 comfortably. Three separate bathrooms, one with a jacuzzi and sauna and two bedrooms with a bed settee in the lounge. It's true what the other reviews are saying about the bar prices, and Macdonalds are really missing the point here because if they reduced the prices to a reasonable level the bar would be full instead of almost permanently empty. Good facilities on site and all modern and tastefully done - swimming pool, sauna, steam room, snooker room, squash courts, spa (though expensive). At the entrance to the site is an activity centre - "go explore" which offer various activities - quad biking, canoeing, archery, clay pigeon shooting, bike hire etc. We hired biked for half a day (£10 each) so good value and the kids had a great time. We also let the kids loose on the water assault course (a bit like total whipeout on tv) Again the children really enjoyed this and at £12 each for two hours including a wet suit I thought it was good value. Check out youtube and it will give you more of an idea. If you have children the Blair Drummond Safari park, a 35 min drive away should prove to be hit. Would have no hesitation coming back to forest hills, there really is something for everyone on the doorstep.

Room Tip: Ask for top floor accommodation as this gives better views of the loch

We stayed here for 2 nights after being with family in Elie. The surroundings were stunning and the hotel was ideal. The rooms are lovely, big, comfy but need updating a bit but this is underway. The reception staff were very welcoming and helpful, the only issue occurred when we went to dinner.

The service for dinner was terrible, there were 5 members of staff and only 12 tables of customers and still we waited a long time for someone to take our order and waited a while for our meals. The food itself was really lovely - no complaints there. The bar prices are extremely expensive which is a shame as it would have been nice to have a few drinks from the bar outside as the sun was shining but instead we ended up to going to the local shop and drinking it in our room because we thought the prices were ridiculous.

We were hoping they would redeem themselves at breakfast the next morning but I'm afraid the service got worse! The food ordered didn't arrive as requested (we are still waiting for the brown sauce to arrive!) and we had to wait a while again. When asked how breakfast was my husband told them that we were disappointed and we got told it was because it was really busy - there were 7 tables!!

There is no free wifi at the hotel either and you can't get 3G. You have to pay through BT Openzone - I think it would be a bigger selling point if it was free.

Overall we had a lovely time and there are some great walks around the hotel but unfortunately it was let down slightly by the service and drinks prices.

Beautiful hotel in the most gorgeous surrounding, food was amazing but at £11.80 for 1 pint and1 vodka and diet coke drinks were just ridiculously overpriced! Wouldn't go back for that reason. It's not that we are mean or alcoholics but your on your holidays and want to go to the bar or sit outside or go to the entertainment in the evening and sit with a drink and enjoy yourself and not have to sit in your room where you can afford it (taking your own). Sorry but they need to address that!
