“A garden of delights”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2013

From the moment we turned into the drive at Ashfields we thought we had stumbled into a little slice of paradise. The gardens are superb and very relaxing and the house is superb and immaculately kept. A large, light comfortable bedroom, a small but excellently stocked kitchen, a bathroom I would love to have at home with a large walk in shower and the largest lounge we encountered on our trip to New Zealand. It was a delight to stay there and we could easily have stayed a week (or more!).

Kate cooked us some wonderful meals - much better than going into Whakatane 19 klms away. We could have taken these on our own private decking but Kate and Russ are such wonderful and interesting hosts that we took our meals with them. It was like staying with friends. Ashfields was certainly one of our favourite places during our whole 6 week trip.

We spent a very enjoyable weekend at Ashfields Country Garden B&B.
The gardens were delightful as was the view of the surrounding landscape and hills.
Kate and Russ as our hosts were most welcoming and friendly while still respecting our privacy
Our accommodation was beautifully appointed , relaxing and comfortable . A spacious lounge was available for our own use.
We were given delicious breakfast choices which we ate in the sun on the deck .
Ashfields provides a great base for exploring the surrounding countryside. We enjoyed a trip to Whakatane and Ohope Beach
Overall we had a memorable weekend and can thoroughly recommend the Ashfields experience.

we came to stay to celebrate a wedding anniversary. it was a great decision. Our hosts were engaging and had put in some lovely touches to help us celebrate including the best raspberry chocolate cup cakes I have ever eaten

We really liked having a lounge to ourselves and the beautifully appointed bedroom and ensuite was delightful. An added bonus was the swimming pool and gorgeous garden.

Our hosts clearly have put a lot of love into their property. We would highly recommend the stay to all.Liz and Ian

My wife and I stayed with Kate & Russell in this astounding B&B in a magnificent garden setting, for 4 nights in January 2013. We could not have been made more welcome. Everything was perfect. This was part of a two month touring holiday and without a doubt this was by far the best accommodation that we came across. Indeed it is probably the best B&B that we will ever stay at, anywhere in the world!

My husband and I stayed at Ashfields 2 nights during our visit to Bay of Plenty and we had a wonderful time during our stay. It has a big plus from our part for all the privacy that is usually lacking other B&Bs. The room was lovely, as was the entire private unit that we had. We definitely recommend it.

My partner and I stayed at this incredible bed and breakfast run by Kate and Russ. After a long drive, the two of them stepped out into the cold to greet us, offer us wine and homemade chutneys, feed us, and show us around. We soon learned that their hospitality and generosity were matched only by their taste in decor; Ashfield's Country Garden is one of the most lovely locations we have ever stayed in. Our room was spacious and adjoined a wide living room that felt so familiar and homely. A crackling fireplace was ready for our arrival, and our room was doused in beautifully light aromas. The next morning, we toured the magnificent property, a landscaped garden and kiwi orchard that combined the full New Zealand experience with visual beauty in one fell swoop. Breakfast - a collection of baked goods of Kate's creation, warm coffee, and a delicious berry dish - got us perfectly ready to see the area. After a lovely stay with the hosts, who showed us the best outlooks of the nearby ocean and forced us to take delicious kiwis, we cannot overstate the pleasure of our time at Ashfield's.
Sidenote: For travelers having trouble deciding on one of the many great-looking locations in the Bay of Plenty, we suffered from the same problem and decided on Ashfield's on gut instinct. We can safely say, having come and gone, that it was the right decision and urge you to follow in our footsteps. Ashfield's is the real deal.
