“A Little Piece of Paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 3, 2013

Coromandel is a wonderful place to visit and a stay at Buffalo Lodge enhances it. Evelyn has a beautiful home and shares it with you. The rooms are stunning and the breakfast provided comes from her garden and her chickens is delicious. The view is to be believed. We really enjoyed it there.

Our one night stay here was arranged by a travel agent. We had a lovely room with a balcony and view over the trees. The B&B was built for that purpose so there is a large livingroom area for guests and breakfast. The cheerful owner gave us refreshing tea, and her morning breakfast was quite substantial. The fresh eggs were from her own chickens, and the owner makes her own jams. WiFi is included. We were the only guests that night, so we felt very special.
The B&B could be hard to find as it is a short distance out of Coromandel on a side road that gets VERY steep before arriving at the B&B.

Room Tip: There are only three rooms and all probably have the same stunning views and amenities.

We have stayed at many B & Bs in New Zealand over the past 6 years, all great, but this is probably the best of the lot, and this was our second visit. Our lovely room had a large balcony overlooking bush, sea and mountains beyond, and a bathroom set out into the bush so that you are surrounded by greenery. The house is very beautiful with amazing westward views, so magnificent sunsets, and full of the art of our wonderful host Evelyne and her late husband. Evelyne is a really gifted chef, do make sure you have dinner there, they are absolutely superb. Breakfast is good coffee, delicious breads and mueslis, homemade croissants and jams, and if you are lucky, the hens have laid and provided you with eggs. It's not cheap, but it's worth every penny.

We started our annual NZ trip in the Coromandels and found Buffalo Lodge via Trip Advisor. What a wonderful discovery. Evelyne is the most charming host, sharing her wonderful home and life with us. Her knowledge of and contacts in the local area make planning your day to day activities easy. The area around Coromandel town is fabulous - in some respects time is standing still and yet in others there is a quirky self confidence that makes you feel very comfortable to relax and enjoy your time.
The lodge is at the end of a long drive on a narrow track through native bushland fording a creek - don't be put off - it is worth it to see the views from the house when you get there!
Evelyne is a wonderful artist and great cook who is very happy to give her time to make your stay a wonderful experience. We are definitely coming back!

Just returned from a great trip to New Zealand. Our time spent at Buffalo Lodge was one of the highlights. Evelyne is the perfect host, providing everything you need for a restful break. The location is amazing with fantastic views. As a centre for touring the Coromandel you couldn't do better. We were lucky to have a meal at the Lodge one night. Evelyne is a very good chef. Her breakfasts are wonderful. If you want a restful location in superb accommodation this is the place for you.

Yet again our stay at Buffalo Lodge was perfection.Total peace and serenity nestled amongst New Zealand native bush, all quiet but for birdsong. Eveleyn as ever, is a lovely charming host, nothing is too much trouble for her. She is an amazing gourmet chef and the Thai evening meal she cooked for us was sublime. The lodge is situated in the perfect position for travelling around the Coromandel Peninsular, beautiful beaches close by and so much to do and see...Driving Creek Railway just a couple of minutes away is a MUST SEE! The sunsets from every room at the lodge are breath-taking, a photographer's dream...see pics! We look forward to our next visit very soon.

Room Tip: All rooms are very comfortable and have a great veiw.

After six years back in the UK, I finally returned to the Coromandel and to Evelyne's warm welcome at Buffalo Lodge. After a solo visit the first time, when Evelyne had been an absolute star in helping me deal with a few challenges, this time I brought two friends with me. They were as enchanted as I was with the views, the space and Evelyne's ability to make our all-to-short visit, a golden memory. She even found us a "more-pork" owl one night!

A great part of the world to visit and this is my number one place to stay when you are there.

Room Tip: The rooms with balconies have fabulous views over the bush to the sea.
