Owner description: Release the child within and experience New Zealand's quirkiest theme park. Voted by AA Tourism as a must-do Kiwi experience The Waterworks is a theme park with a difference. Set in 5 acres of native Coromandel Bush and just 10 minutes from Coromandel Town is an array of water powered inventions, quirky contraptions and fun to discover at every turn. Inspired by the ability to create something new out of something old our attractions are made largely from recycled materials and are powered by water. Water is used to keep time on the wooden water clock; watch out though it often works on Coromandel time. We've got water cannons to blast away on and bikes that pump H2O. Our human sized hamster wheel is an absolute hoot and our mad inventions leave people wondering "what the".As well as the 70+ attractions to look at, play on, or interact with, The Waterworks has a generous adventure playground area perfect for picnics, an onsite café, free use of BBQs and a natural swimming hole to cool off in during the hot summer months.

“Fun for kids of all ages”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2013

Waterworks provides a great deal of fun for everyone. Who doesn't love playing with water? Set in parklike grounds the water "sculptures" are creative, fascinating and often interactive. Many are accompanied by amusing billboards and explanations. Each one is made from old junk that most of us would have dumped but the "artists' have manufactured working models ranging from a self flushing toilet to a clock that keeps amazingly accurate time. The little kids will love squirting each other from hidden nozzles or directing the bicycle pumps into the lily pond. Altogether a highly recommended way to spend a couple of leisurely hours. Reasonably priced and has a cafe for a welcome coffee and cake.

“A great day out for a school excursion”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2013

A wonderful day for school and families. Plenty of interesting thing to interact with and play on. Will keep the children entertained for hours. Though it is a long drive, the beautiful scenery alone almost makes this trip worthwhile.

“4 Adults over 50 become 10 again”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2013

We travelled down Route 309 to enjoy the scenary from Whitianga to Coromandel and literally, bumped into Waterworks! A great 'Gem' in the middle of nowhere and from the moment we went into the Cafe, we all regressed back to our childhood. We had great fun enjoying all of the ingenious interactive attractions, getting wet and wetting others and soaking up the fun and relaxation. Even though we didn't have any kids with us, there is plenty for all to enjoy and we reckon a family could easily spend a day there. Oh, for visitors from outside of New Zealand, you have got to enjoy the experience of the 'long drop' Dunnies!!

“Quirky and entertaining.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2013

We went to have a look - to see what all the fuss was about, and were impressed by the numerous and totally unique activities all with a water theme. We were two adults - and found it very entertaining and quite hilarious. Our one regret was that we didn't bring a bunch of kiddies to see them enjoy themselves and have even more fun.!
