Owner description: Release the child within and experience New Zealand's quirkiest theme park. Voted by AA Tourism as a must-do Kiwi experience The Waterworks is a theme park with a difference. Set in 5 acres of native Coromandel Bush and just 10 minutes from Coromandel Town is an array of water powered inventions, quirky contraptions and fun to discover at every turn. Inspired by the ability to create something new out of something old our attractions are made largely from recycled materials and are powered by water. Water is used to keep time on the wooden water clock; watch out though it often works on Coromandel time. We've got water cannons to blast away on and bikes that pump H2O. Our human sized hamster wheel is an absolute hoot and our mad inventions leave people wondering "what the".As well as the 70+ attractions to look at, play on, or interact with, The Waterworks has a generous adventure playground area perfect for picnics, an onsite café, free use of BBQs and a natural swimming hole to cool off in during the hot summer months.

“Odd but fun”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2013

A very different kind of park with numerous fun activities. Things to do for all ages. A big adventure playground and a cafe on site which does good coffee. The adults version of the flying fox is worth a go but not for the faint hearted! Only problem was there are a few activities where you get unexpectedly wet which is a bit irritating when you're on holiday and have very limited clothing especially as some of the water isn't particularly clean, would be nice to have a bit of warning. Worth a visit.

“Laughs for children aged 2 - 102”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2013

Bring a towel / spare change of clothes, release your inner child and PLAY. If you have any sense of fun you will love it here. Well worth the money - and the café serves good food too. Loos are a bit dodgy but who cares? A really quirky playground with lots to do. We all laughed a lot (4 people on their 40s, one 17 year old, one ten year old, one 7 year old and one 2 1/2 year old) Would like to return in the summer with togs.
On the way there from Coromandel don't forget to stop to say hello to Stuart and his pigs........

“Quirky Fun”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2013

Such a fun place which is easily enjoyable by both kids and adults. Love the quirkiness and the signboards posted along the way throughout the park, had a few laughs and more importantly got wet! Was awesome! Def coming back! A+++

“So Surprised - Wasn't expecting this”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 7, 2013

It's about 10 minutes out of town and along something called the 309 Road, (which is an attraction in itself). Totally unexpected to find a place so big and so well laid out. Plenty of car parking. Nice little cafe next to the entrance area. Really friendly staff and also good freshly made coffee.

The park is hard to describe, certainly kept us all busy and laughing for more than three hours. Youngest was three and my Mother was 78. Loads of silly things, educational things and just stuff. No electricity everything was water powered.

We loved it and will definitely go back next time we are in the Coromandel. I think the owner must be a mad scientist to have created all this stuff.

“Plenty to do here!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2013

A short trip along a metal road to the carpark from Coromandel. Worthwhile though. I thought it was expensive to get in, but there's so much to do! We lunched in the cafe first (which was extra of course, but tasty) and looked out onto the "experiences." Hearing the kids out there laughing and splashing, we didn't hang around! In summer, would take togs for the kids. Although not all "experiences" had water attached to them. It's a hands-on learning environment for kids and adults, pushing and pulling various levers to see what happens, a bicycle circular seesaw, flying fox, swim in river, open a toilet door and toilet flushes, race a coloured model wooden boat down a narrow wooden viaduct filled with water, etc etc.
