“Clean and Reasonably Comfortable”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2014

Mountain House has a clean and comfortable vibe with a pleasant staff. There is 24 hour reception so someone is always manning the front desk. They seemed to be organized with a good reservation system and also organize various tours. The bathrooms and bedrooms were clean, the bed was about average in terms of comfort for a hostel, and there was good WiFi in the rooms. On the downside, it's a bit noisy: there is a doorbell at the front door that when rung we could hear until very, very late which made it hard to get a good sleep. The noise from the guests in general was heard pretty loudly from our room.

This is a basic hostel, not particularly lively or sociable. We had a private room with ensuite, it was just about clean enough, the sheets had definitely seen better days and maybe there was a time when they fitted the bed. Our silk sleeping bag liner came out for the first time this trip! The staff did their best to be helpful, but with our poor Spanish and their limited English it was a struggle.

There is a limited hotel and restaurant scene in Manizales, so it may be that this is the best choice for a couple of nights

The house is clean and comfortable. They have a nice TV with a DVD player and a PS2. The back deck area is spacious for a party and has a charcoal grill. The staff were courteous and helpful. It's a close walk to the Zona Rosa bar area and a nice mall with a cinema.

A good backpacker hostal with a nice vibe where travelers meet each other and helpful staff that help you plan trips. Only the beds were very lousy, you could feel the wooden frame through the mattress and the bathroom always seemed to have a slight odor...

We stayed in the second building of the hostel for us this was one of the cleanest hostels we ever stayed at.
Nice staff although if your Spanish is not perfect sometimes hard to communicate.
The kitchen is really big as well is the Tv room.
There was a cleaning lady everyday till the evening cleaning everything
You have a pool and a chill out room.
Would defiantly recommend this to everybody.

This was a very well run hostel with a good kitchen, wifi and nice rooms. The shower kept getting cold, so I had to keep flushing the toilet to get it hotter, but overall, a great experience otherwise. There is free coffee all day.
There is a newer wing of the hostel a few blocks away, but the older one was perfectly fine.

In Manizales you have to choose between the cheaper hostals in Zona Rosa and the hotels in downtown. I have stayed in both areas and there are advantages in each one of them. If you need a cheap room for the night, people speaking English, might need arranging travel guides or more advanced travelings into national parks? I would suggest staying at Mountain House. The standard of the rooms and WIFI internet services is far lower than the hotels in downtown. But if you need to arrange your traveling and need people to help you this is the place to spend the night! Zona Rosa is a bit safer than the downtown areas during late evenings and night. There are a better choice of restaurants in Zona Rosa! You pay about half the price to stay in Zona Rosa compared to the hotels in downtown. Take into account that the taxis to and from downtown will cost you some money as well!
