“Very good family resort.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 3, 2013

I used TA to plan my vacation and I hope this review helps others.

About us - Mom, dad, 2 girls 10 and 8. From Massachusetts, USA.

When - Stayed for a week November 7 - 15.

Located less than 5 min from the airport. Can not say enough about this, once you get through customs you can be in you room within the half hour. Staying anywhere else on the island will add hours of travel time to your trip.

Staff was great! We were greeted with a smile and a warm remark from every staff member we met. My wife wanted to bring Vernon home after one yoga class.

Food was delicious. Buffet served B, L and D. Two table service restaurants served dinner, Calabash was our favorite. Poolside grill had decent pub food. The specialty dinning events were great fun, seating for guests was out by the splash pool with serving stations on the lawn.

Our room on the Splash side was 415. Two doubles and a pullout single. Plenty off room for parents+2. This was one of the renovated rooms and It was quite lovely and very clean. The sliders opened onto a small balcony with a beautiful view of the pools and ocean beyond.

Although not crystal clear, the pools were, by far, the favorite place for our girls. They loved going from pool to slide to pool and back again. They particularly liked the tiny side pool near the lazy river. The slide gave them a thrill and they shot video of themselves going down over and over and over.

Being on the Atlantic side of the island the winds are constant and for us, welcome. They kept the temps and humidity at bay. At night we would turn the AC off and let the breeze and the sound of the ocean put us to sleep.

We had read before going that the ocean, at this local, could be choppy and it certainly was. This is not a placid snorkeling beach. It is more suited for water sports and frolicking. We are used to summering at the beaches in New England so a little chop and wind was fine compared to, the pounding surf at home.

The only, and I do mean only, bummer during our trip was the dreaded Purple flag flying over the sand when we arrived. For those who don't know ( and we were one of them ) it means dangerous sea life and swimming is discouraged. For the first time in memory ( according to the staff we spoke to ) jelly fish were in the waters off shore. So for the first 2 and a half days we did not go in the water above our ankles.

Each day we would run over to the flag pole to see what color was flying. We were so excited when on the third day the green flag was up! We rushed through breakfast and went running into the warm water as soon as we were done. Ten minutes later my wife got stung on the leg. Not too bad, like a bee sting, except it last about 6 hours. Needless to say the purple flag went back up.

Despite that unfortunate incident we had a really good time. Coconut Bay will provide you and your family with wonderful memories, it did for us.

This resort is literally 5 minutes from the airport. It is on the south side of the island away from the tourist area of Rodney Bay. Resort was very similar to being on a cruise ship. Meals at certain times and buffet style or reservations at the specialy restaurants. The nights they moved dinner outside were spectacular. Food was plentiful and tasty although there was no "plain" food to be found. Seasonings and veggies mixed in with everything. A bit on the laid back side as you are on island time. They divide the resort into adult side and family side. Family side has very large pool areas with swim up bar. Adult side has a small pool with a tiki type bar. Adult bar servers NAX and MICCI were friendly, entertaining and professional. Very much a bonus to the resort. Katlyn and Lenitta at the front desk were amazing too. Did not have correct electricaly converter so Lenitta would take care of charging my cameras. Both ladies super friendly and eager to help. Mitch arranged our two excursions (much like a cruise ship expensive and done in group outings) off the property and was very knowledgeable and friendly. I would say this is a mid class property nothing hugely fancy. Very small amount of beach but great views. Lounge chairs near the beach were not attainable. Other guests would leave their belongings on the chairs before 6AM and go back to their rooms. The real early bird gets the worm on the lounge chairs by the pool. Not my game. Sandra was the housekeeper for our room and the room was clean. She left flower and towel arrangements (much like a cruise) on our bed with lovely notes. Beds were comfortable, TV was readily available. Shower was a bit tough to work with temperature wise. Would be fine then get scalding hot. Personel in the gift shop were less friendly. They did have some good buys so worth a stop. The bar across from the gift shop was empty most of the time which is unfortunate because it has a beautiful outside viewing area.

Room Tip: The room we had was garden view yet faced the ocean. All rooms sound proofed so noise is not an iss...

Dear Vwill, Thank you for taking the time to send in a review of your stay. "spectacular", "friendly", "professional", "amazing" All words we love to hear in a review!
I am very concerned that these descriptors were not enough to wow you during your stay and you felt it was simply a 3*...Meeting expectations is not in our philosophy (kinda like kissing my sister)...Our goal is to WOW you...Spectcular stay, amazing stay is what we are after...Thank you for your input on the items you mentioned. I am surprised about the beach and pool chairs though as we have more chairs than guests by approximately 100. Perhaps the exact spot you were looking for was occupied.

We hope to have an opportunity in the future to WOW you

Cheers
KCCO

We recently went to Coconut Bay Resort and Spa for a friends wedding with our daughter and son in law and their 7 week old baby. This is an amazing family friendly resort with so many things to do. The food was great and the beds were very comfortable.
While we were there, we had a medical emergency with our grand baby and we just can't say enough about the staff at the resort. Their response was so quick and they got us to the hospital in minutes. There is a nurse on staff at the resort and she was amazing. The resort had someone with us during the entire incident, making sure that we were well taken care of. And, we were. Ed was awesome, making sure that we had food, drinks and blankets to make us comfortable while at the hospital. The hospital staff was great as well. Very thourough and attentive. Thanks again to all of the staff at Coconut Bay Resort :) If not for you, our vacation could have turned out very differently.

Great food, very friendly and helpful staff. Clean, not too busy, good fresh food. Chris, the food and beverage manager, was great. Beach chairs looked new - they were remodeling ground floor rooms, so those should be nice.
Not a very good beach, but everything else was great.

Room Tip: They were remodeling ground floor rooms on Splash side, so those will be nice when ready

Mark the gm has got a great staff who go out of their way to make you feel not just welcome, but part of their family. Especial thanks to Vernon who is not just a great dancer and choreographer but gives fantastic yoga and stretch classes (learned more in 2 weeks than I learned in 3 years of yoga in uk!). The great thing about the resort is it is split into an adults only section and a family section, so we were able to either see our grandchildren or just chillout in the adults only section. We stayed in the adults section and rooms were clean and well presented. Because it's on the atlantic side there is great opportunity to kite surf, scuba diving can be arranged over in Soufre via the hotel. Food was excellent with either the main buffet of the 3 alternative restaurants, again compliments to the catering staff. Certainly will consider returning to such a great resort in the future.

We enjoyed our stay at the resort mainly to do with the staff
We found Pearl who attended our room to be so polite and efficient and looked forward to returning every evening to a fresh room.
The front desk staff( Cheyenne, katyln,Emely and I know I've missed many of the names were very helpful and always with a smile) definitely all asserts to the company.
Etta, Elio, Janice and the girls at the smoothie station were all so happy to serve everyday.
Ted at the bar and his co- workers ( boy do they work!!!) all so efficient and fun. always making people feel welcome and engaged with all that walked up to the bar
The guys catching ( and releasing the 200lb blue marlin ) was defiantly a highlight to the holiday
St Lucia is a beautiful island with many many wonderful places to visit and experience

Thanks for a great holiday and hope to visit again in the future!!
I made a friend as well( the little orange cat I called jenny2) who slept on top of the vines opposite the rooms

My wife, 2 kids and I just got back from Coconut Bay last night and I wanted to write this while it was still fresh in my mind. First, St Lucia is an exotic, volcanic, tropical island in the Southern Carribean that can be very expensive! It is mountainous and has a rain forest which makes it very green and it is beautiful. Coconut Bay is an older resort but is in good condition. It has a very casual atmospere and that means don't bring your Rolex or your dog in your purse! Our room was on the family "Splash" side of the resort and our room was clean and comfortable. Our mattresses seemed new and were very supportive, the AC was quiet and cold. All rooms have an ocean view with balcony. The food was very good with different theme nights and different stations at the main Coconut Walk restaurant. There are other Restaurants to choose from, Calabash serving Carribean fare, Silk serving Asian and Capri does Italian. Capri was my least favorite but we are surrounded by decent Italian restaurants at home and try to avoid it on vacation. My favorite restaurant was Calabash, great conch salad and lamb chops. The service at the Calabash restaurant was the BEST restaurant service I have encountered in my entire life! Awsome! Breakfast is served at Coconut walk with crepe, fruit smoothie, omellette, and French toast stations. There is also a bread/bagel station and self service for bacon, sausage, eggs, hash browns etc. There is a snack bar at the pool bar serving quick lunches. Get the pulled pork sandwich there! The resort has many well staffed bars and I didn't wait more than a minute for a drink. The bartenders were all friendly and did a great job. The beach is good and this resort is on the Atlantic side meaning bigger waves and always a breeze that we welcomed. The beach can get sea grass collecting on the edge, not a big deal and they run a tractor with a beach rake as a remedy. There is a water sports hut at the beach where you can use a kayak, paddle board or snorkle. The guy who runs it (Linus) was very friendly and helpful. He never let me lift or carry anything and was eager to get us set up and on our way. Ocean kayaking in the ocean waves was a blast! There are water slides and a lazy river, all fun! My daughter got her hair braided at the Spa, another great experience. There is a kite surfing and wind surfing center down the beach we did not use but seemed to be busy. This resort has someting for everybody and it never seemed crowded. You can join in if you want or grab a lounge chair and hide under a quiet palm tree. The land and sea island tour is a must do . They take you via catamaran past the beautiful piton mountains, stop for snorkeling and a nice lunch in Soufriere. They then take to to the botanical garden, water fall and volcano. Try the hot sulphur springs bath and mud bath at the volcano!! There was entertainment every night and the reggae band was great! There is much more and I'm sure I missed some things. So here is my final verdict. I have spent a lot more on vacations and many times feel disappointed or ripped off, not here. I give the resort a very solid B+. However, when I factor in the very warm and abundant staff, excellent service, value (resort credits etc.) I give Coconut Bay an A. We will be back!
