“Excellent Customer Service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 19, 2013

We have just spent a full week at the Coconut Bay and this all-inclusive exceeded our expectations. It's a very good set up with one wing for families and one wing for couples (Harmony) which is the one we stayed in on the 4th floor in a very nicely renovated lovely junior suite with a great view on the Atlantic Ocean. The beach is not bad but we walk South towards Vieux-Fort for less than a kilometer and discovered a great beach called 'sandy beach' where we did go almost every day as we do like walking along the beach and enjoy swimming in such great location. Bring your sandals as there is a 100m walk along the road before reconnecting to that beach. The food was very good and we were quite impressed by the quality and diversity of the main dining hall. The Caribbean and Asean restaurants are very good but the Italian one needs upgrade, which is already in the works. The discovery tour of the Island and then the Catamaran excursion were both excellent and a must in order to discover the beauty of this mountainous Island that even includes a volcano. The best thing of all however was the friendliness of the staff and their total dedication to customer service. We were treated like VIPs and enjoyed every minute of it. We'll go back!!!

Room Tip: Harmony Side, 3rd or 4th floor

Transfer time 5/5: Situated only five minutes from the airport, Coconut Bay is an ideal destination for those looking for a resort that benefits from short transfer times.
First impressions are very good as the sub five minute transfer winds it's way down the coconut tree lined approach road. Lobby is well laid out and the check in process seamless.

Accomodation 3/5: As other reviewers have said, the rooms are a little tired but the hotel management are currently working through an intensive renovation programme. Of the three rooms that our party occupied, all had clean, roomy living areas, the accomodation only being slightly let down by the outdated bedroom. We also encountered the pieces of 2*4 wood which locked the patio doors, but we saw it as added security. It isn't the first time that we've seen this used and I'm sure that it won't be the last. Rooms are adequately maintained but that's all...rooms are never made up until late afternoon and then only adequately.

Pool Area 4/5: Unlike the previous review, we found the pools and waterslides to be very well maintained. The only reason why we woudl mark them down is that the water is a little cold but more importantly, it was quite common to see the same dirty glasses in the same place as the night before. But....to be fair, when people take drinks on the lazy river and then leave empty glasses in obscure parts of the water parks it's very hard to keep collecting them.

Food 3/5: Disappointing. Geared very much towards North American tastes & standards, quality & variety of food on offer was poor. The buffet constantly served lukewarm food with limited variety. The beach bar served food of average standard but as it was cooked to order, it was fresh. Better to go to one of the speciality restaurants where food is cooked to order. We ate in the Capri, (mixed results, ) and the Silk which was the best culinary experience of the week. Dress code is enforced at both of the a la carte restaurants. Collectively we felt that Cuban all inclusive resorts offer a better variety and standard of cuisine.

Entertainment 4/5: Not bad at all, highlights being the steel band, solo guitar player and the western themed singer. Organised activities were a bit patchy and hard to find out what was going on.

Location 3/5: Despite scoring highly for it's proximity to the airport, there's not a lot else going for the location. We like to get out and about whilst on holiday and the local area is devoid of things to do. You can walk, (45 mins) or take a cab to the local town of Vieux Fort but it's not really to be recommended. Aside of that, there are a couple of bars that you can walk to on the seafront but nothing else. There are plenty of excursions available via the desk, but far better to arrange in advance, especially if you use a company called More Than A Cab (Google is your friend,) who can act as personal tour guides.

Miscellaneous 3/5: Internet connection is at best patchy, at worst non existent. Note though that there is more than one router so if you can bag a seat in the games room, you should get good connectivity there. Beach is not bad but no where near as good as those found on the caribbean side. Upside of this though is that the winds are stronger which is great for keeping you cool and well appreciated by the kite surfers.Staff on the whole are friendly and attentive-like others we found the male staff to be friendlier than the ladies.

In summary, we had a wonderful time at Coconut Bay and would recommend it. However, at times though, it does suffer from a bit of an identity crisis. Daytime it's great for kids, (forgot to mention the kids club which is great,) but late afternoon, it can morph into an adults bar. Not a problem with this, but we did have an issue with the group of drunken Americans who chose to forget that children were around. (Or maybe public swearing is acceptable in the States?) With a little work it could move up to a four star but they need to improve the standard in all areas.

Although we would recommend to first time visitors to St Lucia, we won't be going back. After all it's a big world that needs to be travelled.

We visited Coconut Bay between Jan 7 and Jan 14, 2013. St. Lucia is a beautiful country and the people are very nice. My first impression of this resort was not good but I warmed up to it more over the week.
Immediately after arriving my daughter and I wanted to go swimming after a long plane trip. Swimming at the beach is not an option as there is a constant strong South wind with pretty high waves all of the time. That is ok as it seems to be a mecca for kite surfers and I'm sure they think it is the best feature of Coconut Bay. There are several pools, a water slide, and a 'lazy river' to float down. Unforetunately these were all quite filthy. I actually saw what looked to be dead fish parts in two of the pools. Also lots of leaves and sand and who knows what else. Only one day was there any pool cleaning and it didn't seem to me that they use much chlorine if any or do much filtering.

Also the room we had was very tired and in need of a complete renovation, especially the washroom.

These were my first impressions and they stuck with me all week.

There were good things as well that did improve my mood about Coconut Bay. First, the staff were terrific. Always friendly and helpful and did their best to ensure a pleasant stay.

The food was very good compared to other Carribean resorts we have stayed at. We enjoyed every meal. There was always a good selection of good quality food at the buffet.

The adults only side seems to be a bit better facilities.

We took our daughter to the Kids Klub for two to three hours each day to get some play time with other kids. Generally is was pretty good with good staff and decent facilities. It was good, but nothing to rave about.

I enjoyed the entertainment each night. The shows were not big productions, but they were quite enjoyable. We really like the music in the main lounge area each night. Our daughter danced and danced with all of the other little girls each night.

The proximity to the airport is a real bonus. Less than ten minute drive.

Overall, unforetunately I can't rate this resort as anything above mediocre. The resort itself could use a lot of renovation and the cleanliness of the pools was a bit disturbing to me. Compared to other resorts we've stayed at in Cuba and Dominican Republic for a lot less money, the facilities at Coconut Bay were a bit disappointing. I would love to visit St. Lucia again, but I would probably try one of the Castries area resorts rather than this one. It's too bad, because the people were terrific.

Room Tip: Avoid Splash first floor especially room 101 near the buffet restaurant

We just returned from spending New Years at Coconut Bay. It was our second time at this resort, better than the first!! We travelled with our 2 adult children and we thoroughly enjoy the laid back atmosphere and the friendly staff who sincerely care about you're well being. We have travelled to several other resorts in different countries and the service here is the best that we have ever experienced. The rooms are close to all the amenities because of the layout of the resort. Although we stayed in the harmony section we spent most of our time in the splash section, close to the water park and the beach area. If you walk a little ways up the beach towards where the kite surfing is located it's like having your own beach, hardly anyone there. There is a very good selection of food and on specialty nights if you are not keen on what is available, the beach grill is excellent, especially the grilled chicken. If you speak to the adventure desk they can arrange a private driver to take you around the island, be sure to go to the lighthouse to see the great view of Vieux Fort and the surrounding area. Thank you to Michi and Catherine at the Adventure Desk, big Ted and Osline at the Lobby Bar, Jamara from entertainment, Junias at the Adult Bar, Petula in the buffet and a big thank you to Clare in the buffet and Iva from the Spa, two very special people. We are already planning to come back again this New Years.

Room Tip: We stayed on the ground floor in the Harmony section and had adjoining rooms which was convenient be...

Me and my wife recently stayed at the Coconut Bay hotel. We loved it. The staff were very friendly.
Alina at front desk was very professional and friendly. Next time we travel to St.Lucia we will stay there again. The food was awesome and county night rocks. We really enjoyed. The water park was also nice.

We were in St.Lucia between January 6 and 13, 2013 and travelled as a couple. It was my second time in St.Lucia, but the first time, I was in a resort near Castries, so this one being completely south on the Atlantic side of the ocean was totally new to me. The resort overall looks a little bit tired, but it’s well-maintained and clean. Big plus: it’s a 3-minute bus ride from the airport!
ROOMS
We requested a certain type of room ahead of time and the hotel gave us exactly what we wanted (room with a king-size bed on the 4th floor; those are the only rooms that have been renovated recently). In the past few years, I travelled exclusively in Club Meds. Overall, I would say this resort is better than CM Punta Cana, and the rooms are slightly better than those at CM Columbus Isle in Bahamas. Rooms were clean, but no luxury there. That said, they were comfortable and roomy, no complaints about that. Area of improvement: the room was made at the end of the day (around 5pm) every day and the cleaning lady often forgot to replace items (cups and glasses, bottles of water in the fridge, towels in the bathroom, etc.).
SPA
When we arrived, we were pleasantly surprised to find out that we were given a $50 credit at the gift shop, and a $150 credit at the spa! We got a very good couple’s relaxation massage at the spa, only had to pay $29 extra by using the credit, which was great.
FOOD
Food at the buffet was correct, food at the different à la carte restaurants was very good. The booking system for the restaurants was efficient; we had reservations for every night except the night we arrived. You must book the day before for the restaurants.
BEACH
Only downside: this is definitely not a resort for beach lovers. The beach is quasi non-existent, lots of seaweeds, I’ve been bitten (I think) by a jelly fish while walking on the beach, and big waves makes it impossible to swim almost all the time. I expected it, so we were not disappointed, but it’s definitely worth knowing before going.
STAFF
Staff was mostly local, more friendly than what I remembered from the time I was in St.Lucia in 2004.
WEATHER
We had rain almost every day, most of the time those were 5-minute showers but had one grey day during the week.
RECOMMENDATION
Personally, I would not recommend the resort to a family with young kids, because there’s no beach to play on and the kids’ activities are so-so. But for a couple, it’s great! We enjoyed very much the shows at night; they invited local bands that were very good, and the karaoke night was a lot of fun!

Room Tip: If you travel as a couple, select a room on the 4th floor in the Harmony building.
