“A gem in St Lucia”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 1, 2008

After debating between this hotel and the St Lucian by Rex, I made the decision to stay at this hotel, with some reservations. However I was delighted with my stay at the Coconut Bay Resort, which I felt represented good value for money. Yes there are areas in which the hotel could be improved, but by doing so this would escalate the cost. Check in was quick and efficient with a cool flannel and drink provided. Bedrooms are a decent size, bathrooms quite small but fully functional and are kept immaculate by the housekeepers. Coconut Walk buffet serves breakfast, lunch and dinner daily and provides a decent variety to suit all tastes, the food is basic and simply but well cooked and edible. In addition there is the beach grill, which is open until 1am, if you get the late night munchies and serves generally fast food. Most days there was a BBQ buffet served on the terrace next to the beach grill. Upstairs are the two speciality restaurants, Bellagio - Italian and Silk - Asian. Both of these restaurants are well worth a visit, the only downside is that you have to get up early 8am ish to book for the next day.
Entertainment was varied and there were some great bands that had the guests up and dancing all evening.
The entertainment staff worked hard to entertain the guests but there was no pressure to take part in activities. It could get noisy around the pool area where the water aerobics and pool volleyball took place, however there is an adults only pool and although it was within a stones through of all the main activities it was surprisingly quiet. Whilst there they were building a bar area there as at the present they use a portable bar with limited drinks and facilities
The spa is a nice peaceful escape for a little bit of pampering with a full range of treatments available.
As the hotel is on the Atlantic Ocean, the sea can be choppy and not quite as calm as the Caribbean, however you are able to swim and it is much warmer than the sea in England. The beach does get alot of seaweed however this is cleared twice a day by maintenance staff and there is a stretch of beach that can be used for sunbathing.
The staff deserve a special mention, they are a great team and go a long way to make sure you have a great time. Please remember to say thanks to them, it goes a long way. The St Lucian’s are mad on English football and if you are travelling from England and have any English newspaper they will greatly appreciate these.
I had a holiday to remember in St Lucia and the CBR provided everything I needed.

“Great place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 27, 2008

I'm a travel agent that has been to many islands and many all inclusive resorts. I spent 8 nights and still didn't want to go home .This is a very relaxing, fun , nice place to go and one of my favorites now !. The island is very lush and the people are very nice. You have to try the zip line tour it is AMAZING .... the resort has enough to offer to please everyone.... when you are in the islands it is normal for things to move a bit slower then what we are use to on the East Coast of the USA .... slow down and enjoy it .. have a great vacation you can't go wrong if you stay here .... don't get too drunk and go on the water slides ..lol ... or you will end up with bruised elbows like me ...

“fantastic holiday!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2008

returned this morning from 2 weeks at this great hotel. I have nothing negative to say! Its almost like negative reviewers were somewhere else!
only few minutes drive from airport - thank goodness after a 9.5 hr flight (other hotels on islands typically at least an hour away)
Friendly and quick check in and straight to our room.
Travelled as family of 4 with kids aged 6 and 8, and also with our friends ( a family consisting of a 40 - something couple, their mid 20's daughter + son in law and grand daughter aged 2).

Room was clean and bright on ground floor with garden / pool view, large patio doors onto garden with glimpse of waves beyond. bathroom consisted of walk in large shower toilet and basin with room enough for 2 at a time in bathroom. Had 2 queen sized comfortable beds so kids shared without any fuss.
Cleaned daily with beds made etc. I think sheets changed 3x a week. ground floor garden room recommended as can then drag sun loungers from poolside to grass outside room - great for kids, and gives extra peace for grown ups. Pools were great - cleaned daily for leaves and sand. we stuck to family pool which was gently shelved at entry with swim up pool bar. My kids could touch throughout so I could leave them pretty much to their own devices. the water shoots and lazy river were a great bonus and fun for kids and grown up alike. Its was hard work keeping the 2 yr old off them!
The kids club was fantastic, well organised and safe with varied activities mainly in doors in air conditioned clubhouse or under shade. Kids could chose to eat with club several tines a week - once mine found out about this they didn't really want to bother sitting with the boring grown ups! evening club was 4 times a week until 9pm.

adult activites centred around the deeper and louder central pool which we did not spend time in. there is also tennis courts and a basketball court. the hotel in set in large grounds with well kept gradens and sits on the atlantic beach. The costal breeze which when on the sand can be quite strong is still very warm but keeps you overheating which i imagine can be an issue on the other side of the island which is more sheltered with calmer waters. The sea was mildly choppy but nothing compared to uk water and lovely and warm. yes there is seaweed but. the beach is cleared twice a day and only reaches the edge with plenty of golden sand to tickle the toes. The bay is big and long walks a must, there are good areas along the shore free of seaweed for those who like to swim, or like my son roll around in the surf.

Best of all was the friendly bar staff in the lobby. Great fun, evening entertainment was fairly low key with bands and music.Once a week has dancing / limbo and fire eating, and another night steele band and dancing.Karaoke another night - more than enough for us.
We had no trouble finding seating for our group but did tend to get to lobby area early in evening and later arrivals or those eating late may have struggled.
Ate onced at asian (chinese restaurant) - was fine but nothing exeptional, buffet food was very good with good changing range, plenty adults taking form kids corner and even more the other way around.
I would definatelt recommend this to families in particular (can't really comment on other groups, and would definately consider a retrun visit.

“Value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2008

this hotel is great value for money. Its also a great place for kids.
The buffet was variable and even had a kids corner. Both a la carte restaurants were superb but the service a little slow!
Plenty of sunbathing areas and a lovely beach but beware of the
wind on this side of the island , you need a high factor at all times. Plenty of very red people every day you have been warned !
The rooms are standard and could do with a facelift but the maid
came every day and kept it spotless.
The entertainment was ok but by 10pm we were in bed anyway
exhausted by the sunbathing and long walks along the beach not to forget playing volleyball ,bocce ball and all the other activities the animation team dreamt up every day !
The staff were so freindly and always smiling even when there was a queue at the bar.
Organised trips by the reps were expensive so hook up with other
guests from the hotel and hire a driver for the day to see the island . We paid £8 each for 5 hours and he will take you anywhere . This hotel is family freindly so i wouldnt reccomend
it for couples looking for a quiet holiday . Would i go back?
Only if the price was right !

“Best Value in the southern Caribbean”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 19, 2008

Back from a week at Coconut Bay Resort in mid-Feb, and feel compelled to give it a top review based on the value this destination represents in 2008, with excellent fares out there for what is known as a more expensive destination. I read a lot of reviews before booking, and the trend was positive, but I was worried about some of the winer reviews s concerning food or facilities

As it turned out, there was nothing to worry about. Our ocean view room was clean, every day, and the view was spectacular. The food was not only plentiful, but there was good variety at the buffet, and the lunch time BBQ was always worth the visit. I can only imagine that the few prissy reviews about the food have more to do with wanting what mummy cooks at home than trying something new. They also had two outdoor BBQ dinners in spectacular fashion with entertainment. Drinks were, of course, plentiful, and most bartenders would put an interesting twist on a cocktail on request. Local Piton beer is good. Occasionally there were stockouts on dishes or cups at the buffet, but hey, everthing is on Caribbean time.

Loved the waterslide, and enjoyed good snorkeling at the Pitons. Suggest you also see the drive-through volcano and rain forest. Shopping shuttle to Castries is an interesting trip, but it doesn't need to be all day.

We go to a new island every year, and I sure hope to dig up as good value on the next excursion.
