This hotel is dull and in need of a complete overhaul even though extension work is going on they are not attending to the basics. Our room was small, the bathroom always damp and not cleaned properly--if at all. The towels old and frayed, the bath chipped and the shower curtain beyond description. We had to remake our bed each evening --we were not the only ones judging by some of the comments we heard. The bar dark and univiting with uncomfortable seating(looked like old pews) and a small coal fire. No atmosphere what so ever --it could have been great with proper comfy chairs, tables etc spread all round the room instead of just at the edge. The food was awful --just like school dinners was the comment from others in our party. The staff lazy and uninterested in their job or the customers. Plates whisked away too quickly.
This trip was for our 40th wedding anniversary and when my husband asked if flowers could be delivered to our room he was rudely told to order them yourself from Interflora. The promised WiFi failed until our last evening. I cannot recommend this hotel to anyone.

Room Tip: Choose a different hotel --failing that a room in the new extension river side as its quiet at least...

Four night stay whilst on Scenic Rail Holiday with Newmarket Holidays. Lovely break excellent service from tour manager and coach driver. All the staff very friendly and helpful, food was fair and adequate. Overall the break was excellent rather a lot of time had to be spent on the coach getting from hotel to rail journey otherwise an excellent break.

Room Tip: Rooms large and quiet, bathroom in our room a little tired

We travelled with Newmarket Holidays on a four night break and have to say they were fantastic. It is difficult give a totally fair review of The Carrbridge Hotel as the price was included in our package. From that point of view, the hotel, although not up to the standard we would have liked, was probably good value.

On arrival, check-in was quick and efficient, despite the number checking in. Our request for a quiet room had been dealt with and we certainly lost no sleep! Our first impressions were of a rather dingy hotel-dark carpets and decor. Our room was in the newer section-clean but small with bed covers from another decade -not a welcoming sight. We requested extra pillows as the existing ones were very thin. These arrived quickly, but had protectors but no pillowcases on them-not very nice. On the third day, pillowcases appeared on the extra pillows.

Dinner the first evening was chaotic to say the least. This was apparently due to a large conference party occupying the main restaurant. Breakfast the next day was in a similar vein but staff were pleasant and helpful nevertheless.

Meals after the first day were taken in the Highland Suite and this made for a much better experience. The food at breakfast was plentiful and generally very good. Evening meals were a real disappointment. Vegetables two nights running were peas and sweetcorn and the dinners were like canteen food. The vegetarian option two nights out of four was cheese salad- not very inspiring. One of the starter choices on more than one occasion was fruit juice. The red wine (which we prefer) was all priced the same, and the quality of the first bottle we drank made sure we didn't order again! They certainly don't promote the wine list as you always have to ask for it.

Our first morning cup of tea in the room had to be thrown away as the UHT milk was already 13 days out of date and sour. We left a note and this was rectified as well as the sudden addition of biscuits to our tray.

We spent very little time in the very unappealing bar-again dismal and dark decor and furniture, with a distinct lack of pictures on the walls. Choice of drinks was also poor-only one brand of gin for example.

Previous reviews show that the Carrbridge is a very popular hotel, well-liked by a great number of people. The staff on the whole are certainly welcoming and helpful and the mud on the stair carpet can only lead me to think that it caters well for walkers and hikers! It is certainly well-placed for great walks and drives, and is in a prime location for coach/train holidays.

An unexpected vehicle breakdown meant that we called into the Carrbridge hotel. And boy, am I glad that we did. The hospitality in the hotel is second to none. From the moment we walked through the door every member of staff could not have done more to help, including adding more logs to the fire so we could heat up! Our dog was also welcomed and made a huge fuss over which of course she loved, rather than in some places just tolerated, and biscuits and water were made available to her. We were served a wonderful meal, the breakdown man arrived just as my husband's Cullen skink arrived, and it was taken back to the kitchen to be kept warm. Upon hubby's return, a fresh bowl was delivered, which to me was just phenomenal service. Our main courses were large and of a really good standard for a country hotel. I'm almost sorry to say that our breakdown was repaired and we continued our journey, as I would have loved to stay overnight. The hotel struck wonderfully the right balance of traditional Scottish decor, and hospitality, and is a real credit to the owners, Carrbridge and indeed Scotland. I believe that we will have a planned stay in future.

The Carrbridge Hotel is situated in a fantastic area, I could easily say it's a gateway for getting out and about to many interesting places and Carrbidge itself has lots to see and many walks by the river or in the woodlands. The hotel and staff made this is a brilliant place to stay we arrived when the temperatures were hitting zero and the log fires made sure you were kept warm. The weekend was made very special as the staff were very friendly and helpful. The meals and entertainment were all excellent. It won't be long till I'm back again.

This was our first visit but will not be the last. From the blazing open fire in the entrance hall to the attentive friendly owners and staff, it was an ideal place to spend Christmas. We had a cosy comfortable twin room with a beautiful view of the hills in the distance and a well appointed bathroom with a very efficient hairdrier. Very useful too to have tea making facilities . Our holiday included breakfast and dinner with good wholesome food, most of it locally supplied. The Christmas Lunch was very enjoyable. The hotel decor is traditional and fits in perfectly with the scenic setting. On stepping outside the hotel, there are attractive river and woodland walks and a few minutes from the hotel is the village shop with a good range of products including postcards of the famous Packhorse Bridge, opposite the hotel.

What we had wanted was a relaxing Christmas in a scenic area and this is certainly what we got, in an extremely welcoming and pleasant atmosphere provided by Teresa and Colin and their staff.
