“Shepton Mallet now has its great place for lunch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 16, 2013

Shepton Mallet was a place that had a dearth of restaurants for lunch. Sure there is Blostins and the pubs but Goodfellows offers a bistrot like menu which is supported by great service and a formidable array of tasty pastries to tempt the sinning dieter. Great atmosphere, WiFi is available and people can set up their laptops while waiting for their orders to arrive BUT NOT FOR LONG!! The food comes up fast and hot. Every entre is great. The Confit de Canard was as good as anything I have eaten in Languedoc, the land of the duck! Sandwiches are also on offer for those wanting a light lunch and a soup of the day is available. The place is what Shepton Mallet needed for years and now it makes its valuable contribution. I hope it remains offering lunches at very reasonable price and afternoon tea or coffee with continental type 'pasticerie' cakes.

“go for the food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 11, 2013

As ever, the food at this newest Goodfellows was fantasic! The service was quick, efficient and friendly and there is a lot of space for families.
The atmosphere and ambiance is very different to Goodfellows in Wells. The difference was quite a shock. There is no natural light and the ceilings look like those school ones ( in squares that you can push up). The green wallpaper was rather oppressive and there is even one strip light. However, that is all by the by...the food is wonderful whether it is fish, meat or the stunning patisseries - you will not be disappointed. Parking is best across the road in the corner of the Tesco carpark.

“Nice food but a little pricey”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 1, 2013

Enjoyed my lunch meal of Toasted ciabatta but thought it was just a little pricey. Nice place but staff slightly aloof!

“Enjoyable lunch”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2012 via mobile

Been here several times - food always of a very high standard and the home made patisserie cakes are amazing.

Today we had roast chicken - delicious roasted chicken breast on creamy mash with a buttery sauce and carrots, green beans, button onions etc. beautifully presented. Even the chicken sandwich was great

Would have scored a five but the service was rather cold and disinterested.

“Update on Goodfellows in Shepton Mallet, Somerset”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2012

Sadly Goodfellows no longer does evening meals on Friday or Saturday (not financially viable for them at the moment) unless you book for a special occasion party (as I understand it) ....we were hardly able to hide our disappointment but then booked for their Wells restaurant and were NOT as happy with the food there although the service was excellent. I hope that the Shepton restaurant resumes their weekend evening opening hours ... come on people of Shepton Mallet and surrounding areas .. make it worth their while please.
