Owner description: Minsmere is a great place to discover nature. The RSPB shop, cafe and visitor centre provide a perfect introduction before you explore the beautiful countryside walks. Enjoy stunning woodland, wetland and coastal scenery and close views of a wide range of wildlife, including many rare species. Families can begin their journey of discovery in the Wild Zone, or build a den in the Wildwood Adventure. The nearby Discovery Centre is perfect for school visits, birthday parties and exhibitions. Self-guided activities include a free explorer backpack to borrow, and there's a regular programme of events in school holidays. Seasonal wildlife highlights include: spring birdsong, nightingales and booming bitterns and nesting avocets; summer butterflies, flowers and nesting terns; autumn migrants, red deer rut and colour; winter ducks, evening roosts of birds and Christmas shopping. Volunteer guides are often available to help you identify Minsmere's varied wildlife.

“Not surprisingly”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2013

Not surprisingly this is a great place to watch birds. there are plenty of signed walks and hides. Complete strangers are so friendly here , allowing us to use their telescopes and exchanging information on the birds we could see. The cafe has good simple food and is a great place to watch birds from too. We spent most f the day here.

“Great RSPB Site”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2013

Minsmere is one of the best RSPB Sites (and I have been to several). We have been many times in different weathers and have never been disappointed. It is a large site, and because of that there are a variety of habitats to experience offering a wide range of potential birds - scrapes, coastal shore, reed beds, and woodland.

On a recent visit we were lucky enough to get really good views of a stoat playing in the sunshine, deer, Rails, Marsh Harriers, Smew, and two Bittern, as well as a plethora of other birds. On previous visits we've managed long close views of Hobbies.

It's a well-managed show-case site, with good hides, paths, and cafeteria.

“Marsh harrier heaven”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

Lots to see and do here
Coffee shop is great and well worth a visit
Dictated by weather it can be pot luck, with the snow recently there was not too much around but indications look great for watching in the summer

“Good luck at seeing whatever nature provides”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2013

Seeing this fabulous reserves specialities is pot-luck: "You've just missed the bittern / otter / rail / smew / etc" is frequently heard around the various hides. Be patient and whatever it is that you are wanting to see may return.

“Still no bitterns!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 27, 2013

This was my third visit - and admittedly in late March with biting easterlys, but no bitterns!

Saw marsh harrier, wigeon, shoveller, teal, mallard, jay, lapwing and plenty of finches plus red deer, but no bitterns.

Great day out with plenty for expert and rank amateur to see.
