“Nice hotel but no soul”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2013

This hotel is new and it has lots of great potential to transform it into a great hotel. The hotel is still new and you can feel the staff is not yet trained to deal with the daily operations. In the morning at breakfast for example you will not see many staff, only staff passing by in the restaurant to get coffee and cakes for themselves. In the bar you can have a drink and something to eat but the barman did not understand we would like something to eat and did not bring a menu. It was a bit awkward.

The rooms are nice and very comfortable. Great swimming pool. No locker room, so people will go in their wet swimsuit through the lobby back to their room (why doesn't a new hotel build a proper locker room?).

The beach is nearby and the little typical Dutch village is great to have a walk.

When you arrive at the hotel. it looks like four or five houses from the 1920's - put together -
There are wide stairs going down - almost 4 meter below streetlevel.
You look for an entrance at street level, but to no avail.
You assume that the 2 meter wide glass doors ay the bottom of the stairs is the entrance -Bingo !
There is no proper reception desk, but two office desks with a very helpful receptionist.
The spacious lobby is cluttered with Yellow tubing to remove Radon gas and moisture from under the floor tiles. looks like a modern piece of art.
The hotel room is spacious with a wonderful bath room.
The beds are Queen size, but the mattresses are covered with plastic, so you wake up in the middle of the night, sweating. .
The breakfast needs a lot of exploration before you have discovered where the glasses, cups, orange juice etc etc. are located.
The personnel is still in the learning phase, but are quite helpful.
A beautiful hotel, which might become a nice place to stay.

Burgh Haamstede is located at 1.5 hours driving from Amstedam.
I selected Ter Duin hotel because is placed in country side, in a lovely quiet place, melange of land and water, where you can breath fresh air, walk in the forest or on the beach. The landscape is great, the houses are pretty, you can see ducks, deers, power horses, cows.
The hotel is nice, brand new and clean. The personnel is young very warm and helpful. The pool, sauna and gym are located all together. Was nice to be there.
Breakfast offers a various selection of food cold (salami, ham, cheese) or hot (cute mini pan cakes with strong flavor sirup, tomatoes, ham, eggs), fresh made bread and buns with a fantastic crunchy crust, pastry and cakes, tea, coffee, juices, water, milk. What i like was the handy display of cups, glasses, plates, salt'n pepper and on each table small disposing basket. The restaurant has nice design, warm and spacious. Matching music will accompany your eating time.
Ter Duin has bar - coffee also with original design.
Our room was big, with comfortable bed, small balcony. We liked very much the idea of having separate rooms for toilet and shower. I will return to Ter Duin with pleasure anytime.

Room Tip: i've chosen my room from the hotel site pictures. any room you will take the window view is grea...

We stayed at this hotel for a weekend in Mid August 2012 and we paid a Geef En Beleef package which included 2 nights of hotel + 1 dinner and 1 lunch for 2 persons. We travelled with our 11-month old son.
What we liked was that the hotel was new and all seemed very nicely done and decorated. It looked like a 4 star hotel but it was not more than a 3 star in reality: no coffe/tea maker, no minibar. Plus there was no information for tourists in english. All was in Dutch.
The meals were OK, not spectacular but OK. The main disappointment was that the menu was again only in Dutch!! And so it took us a long time to order and in the end often the explanations we got were not exactly what we saw in the dish so there was a lot of mis-interprtrations going on!!
Apart from that, the baby cot/bed was charged at 7 euros a night!! We NEVER had a baby cot/bed being charged to us!!! This is really not great service I must say. We travel a lot around Europe and the world and this is the FIRST time we have been charged for a baby bed!!! Plus, the baby bed was made of cheap plastic that had a terrible smell (like chemicals) that was so strong that our son could not stop crying the whole first night and he ended up sleeping in his push chair that night! (second night he was fine because I put on some baby cologne in the bed).
Also, the Geef En Beleef package said it included a 3-course dinner for 2 and they charged us the desserts!!!! Why was it then called a 3-course and not then a 2-course meal? We took 1 starter, 1 main dish and 1 dessert: so 3 dishes. Also, our dishes were in much smaller portions than what other guests had. I guess they were saving costs... Not so nice.
All in all, we got mixed feelings about this hotel because it was well located, it was new and had a very nice atmosphere and the service was very good: staff was nice and very happy to help. But the negatives did not make it so pleasant after all specially for the price we paid that was quite high.

I stayed here for one night only. The hotel is completely new and very big. This is why it lacks personality and atmosphere. It needs to solve some of the start up problems, such as the door knobs that come off the wardrobe. The pool is very nice and dinner was very good, but I prefer places with a little history. The hotel is quite expensive, but there are some good offers to find. Prices as high as these are too be expected in cities, not in Dutch sea side resorts (without sea views!). It was disappointing not to find a mini bar in the room. I sometimes use it for a nice bottle of white wine, as the hotel ones are too expensive. In such an expensive hotel I feel a little ripped off when it lacks such basic facilities.

Room Tip: Some of the comfort suites (these are the normal 'doubles'!) have balconies.

This hotel is so brandnew, that some pieces of the puzzle are still missing.
Most of the spaces are pleasant and well-constructed and some still miss some warmth. The bar wasn't inviting, looked coarse and out-of-place in this otherwise rather aesthetic complex. The square in front of the building is a bit of a disaster. It's remarkably unattractive and a serious obstacle for older or disabled guests. Staff is friendly, especially in the restaurant. The food is a really lovely. Two minuses however : with the evening meal, each table is served only one roll of bread. The explanation given is that they are too big for one, which certainly wasn't the case... as a result several tables requested another one. Breakfast was excellent, but the orange juice in a hotel of this standing needs to be freshly squeezed!!
All in all our stay was a delight.

Room Tip: avoid rooms at the front

Just came back from this hotel, fantastic rooms, great bathrooms, no minibar or fridge in the room, air conditioning was a godsend in this heat, breakfast was good, pool fantastic (not too hot and not too cold). What really disturbed me and my family (travelling with a young child) was that the fire alarm went off at around midnight. We were all so tired and after this experience we couldn't sleep anymore. I read from other reviews that this is not an isolated case, several others write about false alarms, so this must happen almost every day. Don't they have any respect for their customers?
