“Quirky Hostel that lets your explore Amsterdam and experience the dutch countryside”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2012

The hostel is located next to a lake in a series of converted lodges and caravans.
There was a wonderful atmosphere in the hostel and the staff were always very helpful and accommodating. We hired bikes from the hostel to explore the local coutryside as well as taking the free shuttle bus that runs very late into Amsterdam. I would recommend this hostel to anyone. Great experience of laid back yet attentive dutch hospitality. Dank u

Lucky Lake Hostel is brilliant. Even though it is a little out of Amsterdam itself the team make it very easy to get into town with a shuttle to the closest train station. The shuttle runs until 1:30am meaning you can have a night out in Amsterdam as still get home on a backpackers budget. They can also organise a shuttle to the airport when you leave even if it as 5am. Everything is clean and the caravan rooms are very cool. The laid back atmosphere and helpful staff made our stay easy and enjoyable.

Great camping with great atmosphere

Water, sun, small hutts but great crowd from all over the planet. Joint kitchen. Clean showers and toilets

Busservice from the camp to the trainstation. Can rent bikes here and cycle to Amsterdam. Really awesome

I was really excited about finally seeing this place for myself after reading all the great reviews on here, and I have to say I wasn't disappointed - it was even better than I expected! Our 2 night stay was absolutely too short, and I would've loved to have stayed longer. We stayed in a cabin and yes they are basic and small - literally just a bed, table, chairs and a lamp. But this was fine as the weather was glorious so we only used the cabin for sleeping. The toilets and shower blocks were spotless and I never once had any awkward run-ins with any other guests, it was actually quite fun cleaning your teeth in the sink next to a complete stranger! The location of Lucky Lake is far out, but the shuttle bus gets you to Holendrecht in no time and once you are there its only a simple 20 minute ride into the city, so anyone who is looking to see the city in your own time this will be fine for you. The people here are lovely and no-one would be able to deny this place is a gem, the atmosphere is like no other - everyone is so relaxed and just there to enjoy themselves, no matter who you are you can be yourself here and no-one will judge you, we met some great people and I can guarantee you will make friends with other guests. My only niggle here was the kitchen area sometimes got a little crazy around 6-8pm when everyone is trying to cook their dinner, and its kind of annoying having to wait around while your food is cooking because other people are in the way. The only way this can be solved is getting a bigger kitchen area and there is plenty of space to do so, however this wasn't a major issue. Pleasee if you are thinking of coming to Lucky Lake do it!!! You will not be disappointed, it's an unforgettable experience and i really can't wait to return!!

My boyfriend and I stayed at lucky lake this past week. When we first arrived, we weren't to excited about how far away the hostel was from the center city. The next day, we explored the lake and stayed up till neary 2 am making new friends at the lounge. By the time our three day reservation was up, we were begging to stay for two more nights. They easily accommodated us for extra time. The atmosphere at the hostel is so relaxing and the scenery is breath taking. It's the perfect retreat from the busy city. We look foward to coming back with our friends in tow!

Me and two girlfriends decided to take a trip to Amsterdam but we didn't really want to stay in the hustle and bustle of the city. Luckily we stumbled across this place on a hostel website! Whenever I hear the word hostel I always imagine cramped dormitories and bed bugs but this is definitely not that place! It's bright and colourful and just looking at the place puts a grin on your face. The staff are so friendly and very helpful. You can also hire bikes from the hostel which I highly recommend! We cycled to the nearby town to pic up some food and wine and it was simple getting there and a beautiful ride. In the mornings they tend to leave out lots and lots of eggs for the guests to make their own omelettes, scrambled eggs etc. and bread to make toast with and lots of different spreads and jams. The toilet and shower block was always clean and tidy, as was the communal kitchen area. It's also a great place to meet other travellers. I would also say, don't be put off by its distance from Amsterdam! It's really easy getting there and back and very cheap and the hostel provides a shuttle bus which runs frequently. I would recommend this place to anybody looking for a relaxing, friendly place to stay. It truly was a wonderful experience.

Room Tip: The cabins are a little more spacious than the caravans.
