“Charming old school interior design, peace and quiet and A+ service.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2013 via mobile

My husband and I stayed here 2 nights through a deal on internet, including a 6-course meal at their Michelin starred restaurant, De Wanne. I will be writing a separate review for the restaurant.

We had suite 35. It has a small sink, counter top and mini fridge; a small receiving area with a couch, table and 2 chairs; a large bathroom with shower, bathtub, toilet and bidet; and sliding doors to the patio and greens. Check-in was fast. Personnel was very friendly and service-oriented. Everything in the hotel is very clean. Charming but very old design and a bit worn. They have a sauna area and an indoor swimming pool. I didn't visit but my husband went twice and he said it was good. There's also enough parking space.

Breakfast is bountiful: juices, champagne, coffee, tea, different sorts of bread, pastries, eggs (to order, too), cheeses, cold cuts, cereals, yoghurt, etc. On our second day, we stayed in bed and watched the crowning of Willem-Alexander on tv. We ordered a delicious lunch and a bottle of wine which were brought in the room.

We drove to the center of the pretty town Ootmarsum (10 minutes by foot). It has lots of art galleries, pubs, cafes, restaurants and the friendliest of people.

I would come back here again.

Everybody knows Holland but too many people doesnt know this small village called OOtmarsum. Its on the east part of holland and it takes about 2 hours by car. The way from Holland to OOtmarsum is very nice and you will enjoy the travel.

I stayed in this very nice hotel and I cant describe how nice it was. The village is full of art galleries and artists. In every corner you can find bar and most of the old people are sitting to talk and have a drink together.
The hotel...Its fantastic place far from the city and peaceful.Nice garden to sit and have a drink. This hotel is not budget hotel its upper class and most of the visitors are coming to listen their heads. For new married couples it must be ideal hotel. The rooms are big with kitchen, bath and sitting room.Outside they have open swing pool and also one inside. On the garden you can see rabbits horse and other interesting animals.

TheBreakfast was very nice . Bacon eggs saucages etc the regular. and fruits.
The restaurant is michelin but they dont have Turkish wine. This is the only minus that I can say for this hotel. The quality of the hotel in all is 7 stars for me.I hope to go one more time to this lovely hotel.

De wiemsel is located at the eastern part of Holland, a place with beautiful small villages. We came at the end of winter so it was rather cold and windy and the hotel offered spacious rooms, great dinner' warm inside swimming pool and green grass with a small rabbit which was a very early morning guest. we loved our stay which enable us to bring our small children with us.

Room Tip: we stayed at the suite with adjoining kitchen

I like the resort very much. Away from maddening crowd located in very much natural surrounding.
Food is excellent. Service is reasonable. No pollution. People are helpful. Breakfast was nice and ample choice from juice to main coarse. Huge property for walking and other activities.

Room Tip: Cottage and in first floor rooms.

The little city (yes they have city rights) of Ootmarsum is a hidden gem. The center has been beautifully restored, there are lots and lots of cafés and restaurants, and you feel the vibration in the air: this is a fantastic place to spend a few days of quiet and enjoyment. It is a bit away from the trodden paths, but for people on their way to Northern Germany or Scandinavia should make it a point of stopping there (it is only 15 km or so from the Dutch/German border of Denekamp/Nordhorn).
Hotel De Wiemsel is set in a large property outside the city. It is large and spacious, and so are the rooms and the bathrooms. The reception and the service are discreet and efficient. An excellent breakfast is served in the spacious dining room or in the conservatory.
There is also a large indoor swimming pool annex sauna. We went there in autumn, but I can imagine that in summer it must be much better even.
There is ample attention to detail: one that I enjoyed partifcularly: the towels in the swimming pool area were delicious...
I'll give a separate review on the restaurant.

We went there because of their fine kitchen and relowned accomodations

The restaurant was warmly decorated yet it felt somewhat old.
The wines were expensive as are the menu's.

As a starter we had samon. It had little taste specially for a star restaurant. Lucky for us there was trufflebutter and nice bread on the table ti counter the lack of taste.

The bouillon was lovely n strong no complaints there

The tuna lacked taste and was over cooked thus loosing even more appeal.
Also the ravioli we were served was just as dissapointing. Most of the following dishes werent up to a one star restaurant

Restaurant used to be good but its definatly on the way down, as a few old guests confirmed to eachother while we were there.

There are way better restaurants out there with fresh new ideas on food.

Breakfast was very nice with plenty of fruit. Bacon eggs saucages etc the regular.

The swimming pool was clean as were the sauna/ relax areas.

Stad was friendly and helpfull and the surrounding area is a picture.

I urge the management to get their act together and change the rooms in the main building to the standard one expects in a decent hotel.

I burned my hand in the room because the water was too hot. Its not safe for kids ( in the rooms 45-46-49... In the main building. )
