“Average, cheap hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2013

My partner and I stayed here for two nights as a base while we were walking the Pieterpad. My first impression of the hotel was that it was clean but old. The carpets and furniture in the downstairs dining room are faded and worn. The hotel would definitely benefit from a renovation.

That said, the room was nice. Quite large (for Europe), with a separate shower and bath in the bathroom. The beds (they only offer single beds, if you want a double bed they push the two beds together - someone should tell them that this is not cool!) are very comfortable. For non-Europeans, let me warn you that there was no minibar or kettle in the room. There was also only ONE powerpoint, making it difficult to charge our computers and phones, which is of course the 'point', if you will excuse the pun. There was no safe in the room, but safes were available near the reception next to the two inexplicably-placed poker machines.

The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. We were able to order lunch packs for our Sunday walk, which at 10 euros each for three small bread rolls, an apple and a chocolate bar, were quite expensive. But I suppose when they are offering rooms for 29 euros a night, they have to make money somewhere.

We ate in the restaurant, which offered a three course menu (soup, main and dessert) for 15 euros per person. We thought this was quite reasonable until we actually ate it. The soup and dessert were nice but not remarkable in any way. The main we both chose was meat ball with mashed potato and endive. It was swimming in a terrible gravy, and the meat ball was so salty that I couldn't eat it. The next night we went to the McDonald's across the road.

The buffet breakfast (7.50 euros) was very nice. Fresh bread and bread rolls, pastries, conserves, cheese, ham, along with scrambled and boiled eggs and bacon. Coffee, juice, tea, hot chocolate and water are included.

All in all, we are happy with our choice.

This hotel which, proved surprisingly tricky to access, is situated alongside a major motorway and also a lorry park. We were pleasantly surprised, however, at how little of the noise reached our room which was located at the back of the hotel.
Our room was fairly basic but comfortable, and the attractive rate included an excellent breakfast which put many more expensive establishments to shame.
Eating at this location was restricted to the hotel (basic, fairly limited choice) or a branch of Macdonalds which could be reached, on foot, via an underpass crossing the motorway.
This hotel is a good choice for a short stay at a budget price.

Room Tip: Choose a room on an upper floor at the back of the hotel (away from the motorway)

Booked a weekendtrip in this hotel at just €35,- pppn.. Knew on forehand that it was situated along the highway A1. It is a roadhouse with hotel. Receptionists were friendly. Interior rooms is outdated, but clean, although not spotless. View from the rooms at the backside is the parkinglot for lorries (you can hear them at night and early morning). Location hotel is for leisure not good, although very good to go to by car. You have to make trips in the beautiful Twenthe-area. City of Deventer (30 minutes by car) is old and great. Rent a bike at the hotel for sightseeing the Holterberg etc. Definitely not a hotel to stay all day.

PS. don't order a glass of (fresh) orange-juice at the bar. At €3,10 very expensive. It is not fresh, but is poured out of a bottle. Yeck.

Hotel recommended for short stay to sea surrounding area.
