“Not luxury at all. ”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2013

I stayed here for a week for business. This hotel is average at best. They lead you to think it aj a luxury or premium hotel, but far from it.

Hotel:
Not impressed.
Not Luxury or Premium by any stretch of the imagination. I went the extra euros for the "luxury" room and is hate to see the non luxury room.

Cons:
-No Iron or Ironing board in the room
-No mini fridge.
-Towels are thin and abrasive
-No lotion or conditioner
-No facial tissues and abrasive TP
-No AC
-Uncomfortable beds and pillows
-Breakfast buffet is repetitive
-The amount of doors in this place is rediculous. Had to cross 9 with bags to get to room.
-shower feels like being sprayed by an elephant hose. Sloppy and inconsistent.
-room service obviously doesn't clean the showers as I had little mini shampoos and body wash bottles accumulated over an entire week.
-expensive. Paid twice what I could have paid just for the average gym.

Pros:
-Has an average at best gym, but it's one if the few places in the area that has a gym.
-Buffet is good, but gets old after two mornings. No variation.
-free wifi

We stayed here for 2 days whilst attending a wedding in Hengelo. This hotel was superb and much bigger than the picture shows! Staff were friendly and very helpful - giving us our room a good few hours before check in time. The room was large, well appointed with a lovely balcony and view of the gardens. Breakfast buffet is not to be missed ! Amazing service and choice. Bar prices were reasonable and the choice of sandwiches, snacks was good. Would recommend this hotel and will def stay again.

The hotel is more like a resort. The rooms are excellent and very spacious. But the only thing is that you have to walk a lot and open too many doors before you reach your room. The breakfast is excellent with a lot of options. The room service is quick and responsive. The parking space available in hotel is very good.

Room Tip: Please ask for a room which is near to the reception.

Just a good hotel with almost everything you may need during business trips or getaway hangovers in the neighborhood of Hengelo, Almelo and Enschede. And with excellent bar and the restaurant on board.
Rooms are large and spacious, clean and generally comfortable - Dutch hotel quality is at the highest levels. Wi-fi is fast and unlimited - we had a video conf once when it was hardly raining outside preventing us from going outside. Breakfast is just good and the only thing prevents you from eating it all is self-suggestion that you should not be eating that much. Fitness is okay, however most joggers were outside (when it was not raining).
Evening time is pleasantly spent in the bar at the hotel.
Regarding the holidays - you surely need to have a solid reason for selecting the surroundings as your holiday destination, but if it happened, you may find that the weekend prices are worth paying at this hotel.
We did not choose the shuttle, but the taxi ride from Hengelo station is 12 euro per car.
Hopefully will visit this nice hotel more and more times.

Room Tip: Most rooms are located in the added buildings but that is not disturbing, you just need to find your...

The highlight our time in this hotel is the service in the bar. The barman is friendly and attentive, plays a great selection of easy listening music, everything is clean and tidy, and above all he makes guests feel welcome to Twente. Meals are ok, just what you'd expect. It's the quality of the service that makes return visits worthwhile.

There is very little I can add to the good reviews in Tripadvisor. I have stayed in the van der Valk Hotel during 3 - 4 annual trips. My experience is very positive. I agree that the rooms are really excellent and clean. The restaurant offers a good breakfast and the place is perfect to invite your friends or business contacts to enjoy lunch or dinner. I will stay another 2 - 3 nights next year.
Indeed, the WiFI is less than perfect.

Room Tip: The most quiet rooms are on the second floor, away from the highway.
