“Beautiful place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 9, 2013

A very pleasant and relaxing way to spend a day in the middle of nature. It is really impressive, educative and there are also a couple of attraction suitable for children, starting from the animals themselves which are very friendly. They are nursing injured seals and hosting them which is really cool.
There is also a restaurant. Outside the actual building you enter directly the dune area which is absolutely superb!
The ~20 minutes boat trip(from Den Helder), to get on Texel Island also offers a beautiful view. It is important to get the bus that takes you to Ecomare right after you go off the boat as it only rides once every hour or so, during the weekend, at least.

“Seals and walking around”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2012

We came to Ecomare in a rainy day, and still the activities outside were the highlights of the visit.
First the "Seal Show", although spoken in Dutch it was nice and interesting, then walking on the routes around over the dunes - we liked it.
The museum inside the building is bit oriented to kids with its activities.
the overall is definitely worth the visit and only to increase the economical point of view.

“Over priced, small - but very interesting in parts”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2012

The outside seal area, with pools and quarantine area are well worth the trip - with regular staff giving talks (never in English) on the seals and the surroundings. Though they do speak english if you get them 121.
The site is cycle-able from De Koog, and there is car parking if you'd prefer.
It's slightly over priced and the other sealife exhibitions are poor, not at all worth going for.
The cafe has a good range, of surprisingly reasonably priced food.
The seals make this trip worth it.

“Great place for kids!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 4, 2010

I was worried that this would be another crowded Dutch attraction, but I was pleasantly surprised. We went on a beautiful Saturday and it wasn't crowded at all. They really geared this place towards children with tons of buttons to push, handles to turn, and panels to slide. My daughter had wonderful information filling her brain for an hour and she thought she was playing the whole time. The seals outside are the best part. The babies were so cute! Everything is up close. Great place to start on Texel to know what animals and birds you could spot in the wild. We actually did see a seal in the ocean later in the day. They have an information center full of brochures for the island and the gift shop sells things like a nature guide in English.

“Amazing place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2008

This is a marine education and rescue center on the island of Texel (pronouced Tessel). The island is reached by a short ferry trip from Den Helder. Then you can take a bus to Ecomare, but we had a rental car. It's about 15 min drive from the ferry. It's a surprisingly sophisticated and engaging place for such a remote location. We spent at least an hour there. There are many displays of area marine life. One of the largest is of seals. They are fed twice daily for the public. They are housed in outside pools and it can be windy! There's also a beach park we didn't have time to visit. Well worth our time and the entry fee.
