“Delightful place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2014

This is the second time my wife and I have stayed in this lovely hotel and hopefully it won't be the last. Set in beautiful grounds we were fortunate to have really good weather for our short stay. We had a nice large bedroom on the ground floor and we enjoyed a lovely evening meal in the DenK Brasserie. As we were on our way home after a three week motoring tour of France this is trhe ideal place to have a stopover if like us you are travelling back to the UK from ijmuiden. We cannot praise the staff highly enough for their attentiveness and care and hi9ghly recommend..

The hotel is very pleasant, it is family run, all members of the staff are fantastic, very friendly, helpful and nice people. Our room was spacious and clean. There is a beautiful garden and a forest just "by the corner". It is close to Amsterdam but you can enjoy your "peace and quiet" staying in Landgoed Duin & Kruidberg and go to Amsterdam and many other wonderful places in its neighbourhood during the day.
Breakfast was DELICIOUS and very wide choice, there are 2 restaurants, both are perfect but do not miss the chance to dine in the Michelin star restaurant De Vrienden van Jacob - it is really a special experience (you will probably need to book your table in advance).

Room Tip: Book a room with a garden view.

Dear Silvia,

Thank you for reviewing and visiting Duin & Kruidberg Country Estate.

I am pleased to read that you enjoyed our services and facilities. I have immediately shared your positive comments with the Team and they were happy to hear that their efforts paid off.

We always recommend to make dinner reservations prior to your stay. On Friday and Saturday the Michelin restaurant ' De Vrienden van Jacob' is mostly fully booked.

In case you have plans to visit us in the future, I can highly recommend you to make a trip to Haarlem. It is a very nice town with a historic city centre. You can reach Haarlem within 10 minutes by train.

I hope we may welcome you again with us in the near future.

Best regards,

Evelien Hendrikse

We stayed at this hotel with friends because we also booked at the 1-star restaurant to have dinner.
We had a room on the first floor of the old building and it was great. Clean, comfortable and great bathroom.
The grounds are lovely being connected to the National Park where you can walk and bike to the see or IJmuiden or Haarlem. We had great weather so sitting outside and talking and drinking wine was great.
Have to be honest, dont know what the feeling would have been if the room would have been in the new wing with kind of underground rooms.
Breakfast was great as well, everything you can ask for there.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the old mansion.

Stayed in the room for two night first of all they did not offer to carry my luggage to the room or showed me the room while is it like 3 stairs down and then up again took me 10 min to find and ask other staff on the way no one came to the idea to show it. We were here for a wedding but a lot of people marry here, so they probably forget that they are a hotel as well. They simply can not handle both during busy weekends. i asked at 11 am to make up room while at the door was a sign to clean an 5 pm i came back to see the room guy for 1min busy to clean it, I told him leave it come back and then he tells me then your room does not get cleaned today because i am leaving. Think personal is very rude if you ask for something and totally not flexible, since a long time did not enjoy the atmosphere in a hotel because of the staff. They must be overworked or underpaid. Further room was ok quiet noisy during the evening you hear other guest making noise nothing they do about it. Location is nice in the Forrest and terrace very nice as well. At the check out told my complaints funny enough nothing they did about it and even the putted two days breakfast on it while we did not have it, they just tried it to see if i would pay.

Room Tip: Probably new rooms quiet rooms ask it

The hotel was a bit of a warren due to it being old however it can only be highly recommended.the room was very clean and comfortable,we stayed two nights and dined both evenings...the food was excellent as was breakfast.
The location is peaceful with the opportunity for lovely walks in the woods and to the sea. This was a great location to visit Keukenhof for the day.

The main building is situated in a stunning old country house, but the 'newly' built annex rooms are in a 'hill' with no direct daylight and a closed patio, that will provide the only light. Upon arrival to our room we were seriously considering going to another hotel in the area, We arrived here after an 8 hour drive, exhausted and to find that we had to carry our own luguage up and down 3 sets of stairs. No one (including staff we passed) helped us and my wife couldn't carry too heavy as she has back problems, so I had to carry all our lugguage alone, to a room in what can only be described as the basement.

The room was tiny and seemed a bit un-cared for and didn't even had a bath, which we were dieing for after a long drive. To make matters worse, there were 2 beds and as a newly married couple we don't want to spend our nights in separate beds. So we made our way back to reception, where we were told that no other rooms were available. We were about to leave when the Duty Manager came to see us. He showed us the only other available room, which was a bit bigger and looked better. Here there were 2 beds as well, but these were not on wheels and they could put them together.

Other members in our group (we had 3 rooms in total) received fresh fruits, water and pralines in their room, but the first few days we were ignored this privilege, until we complained about this.

The breakfast was amazing, it offered all kinds of delicacies, too much to handle and we stuffed ourselves every morning. We also ate in the brasserie once for dinner. We hadn't made a reservation and were told initially that there was no space for our group. The restaurant was still empty at this time, after we ensured the staff that we would be out in an hour, they were happy to serve us. We just had a burger, which was of very good taste and quality. The staff seemed a bit rushed and annoyed by us, but did their best to help us.

On 2 occassions we had drinks in the bar. The barman is very knowledgeable for his drinks and he can make you some nice cocktails. The bar itself is nicely decorated and very modern. On the second occassion there was a younger girl serving, she seemed a bit less knowledgeable and took much more time to prepare us the same order, which in the end was very nice as well.

A pity that the bar and brasserie are also located in this 'underground' bunker. You don't have natural light when you go for breakfast or dinner here.

All together we did have a nice stay in the end. The staff, depending on who you meet can be from very friendly, to just doing the basics, some not really seeming to be enjoying to be working here and this at a time when the Dutch National Football team was staying there aswell, you would think they would be a bit more motivated and happy to be working in such a place. For Dutch standards this place offers great value for money, so for this reason I would recommend this place.

Room Tip: Go for a room in the main building, with natural daylight. These rooms are also more classical and m...

We stayed one week at this hotel with two little kids and other family members. Hotel and surroundings are absolutely stunning so when the weather is good it is a must to spend an afternoon at the beautiful outside lounge.
The staff was really nice, helpful and most important - flexiable!
In the first evening we ate in the chef's resturant, an experience I will describe as 'heavenly'- the chef itself is a great easy going guy who wasnt afraid from the list of stuff we dont eat, and prepared for us a dinner that will be remembered for a long time! Overall, we were positively surprised from this hotel and would recommend it to anyone travelling to this region of holland.
