“Big rooms, comfy bed, surprisingly good food but corridors noisy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 19, 2014

We got a good deal for a night away and I was attracted by the large room and good reviews. Check-in was easy and the room and bed were indeed large. Bathroom (shower, no bath) was roomy too. The hotel is out of town so we decided to eat in the restaurant to avoid driving and we were pleasantly surprised by dinner - not cheap but very tasty and generous portions.
Our room was the first one on the corridor which meat there was a lot of passing traffic (guests going to and from their rooms) and so it was noisy. An internal door between the mini-corridor/bathroom area and the bedroom would help.
Staff were fine.
Breakfast was good but nothing special.
The hotel's proximity to Laren, Blaricum etc is a big plus.
All in all a comfortable stay.

Room Tip: We were near the lift so everyone on our floor passed by our room - noisy in the morning.

Dear Ykemichel,

Thank you for your good review on our deluxe rooms! The restaurant and the staff. We will discuss with the technical department what we can do about the noise from the corridor. Its good to hear that you have had a comfortable stay.

This is the best hotel I have ever stayed in and I have stayed in quite a number of hotels, actually this is the second time I've stayed at this hotel now.
The room we stayed in was spacious and clean, massive and very comfortable bed and a table and 2 chairs so you can use your laptop easily. (Free wifi) and a flat screen tv. The room also has a mini bar and a side table with complementary magazines. (in Dutch though)
Breakfast is expensive in my opinion, 18 euros per person, in buffet form. (We didn't eat breakfast here this time)There's a restaurant too where you can eat lunch or dinner.
The surrounding is beautiful, looking out over a lake and it's very quiet. You do need a car as it's remote from the village of Huizen.
I can't wait to go back next year.

My second stay at this place. I decided to go again for the suites located on the upper floor overlooking the yacht harbour. tremendous spot, great appartment-size rooms with super soft beds flooded with cushions.

If you want to spoil your lover only once a year this is the place to go. In my case I wanted to stay away from the busy lousy masterdam business hotels and reside close to Amsterdam but on the countryside.

Great comfort, big parking, great and quiet spot. Super breakfast. ready to return next year...

Room Tip: Pay a little more for a suite and be spoiled like an Arab sheikh...

We spent 3 days at the Hampshire in Huizen specifically to visit our family who had recently moved to the area. We just wanted a place to sleep as we didn't expect to spend much time in the hotel. However we loved the place so much we wanted to stay longer! The location was so quiet and totally relaxing our room had a view of the lake, the room itself was spacious and light and airy with a 6ft bed which was very comfortable. We had dinner in the restaurant with all the family, the children were offered colouring books and pencils without having to ask. The food was simple but good just what was needed for a hungry family of young children, served with a smile and in very pleasant surroundings. The Hampshire is definitely value for money, efficient friendly service, we will definitely stay there again on our next visit.

Room Tip: Lake view rooms are very quiet.

We spent four nights here over July/August. The hotel is set in very pleasant surroundings. The suite was huge, with fantastic views of the lake, including glorious sunsets on a couple of occasions. The staff were extremely polite and helpful throughout our stay. We did not eat here as we preferred to travel out, but did make use of the relaxing bar area on a couple of occasions. You need your own transport to make the most of this location, but with a bit of planning it is not too difficult to get to the nearest station to catch the train to Amsterdam. In addition Utrecht, Edam, Gouda and Haalem are all within reach and worth visiting by car. Would definitely look to stay here again next time we are in Holland.

My family spent three nights here in July 2013 and it was an extremely relaxing stay, the family suite on the 7th floor had a spectacular view of the lake. This is a place to go if you cycle, sail, or like long walks. The hotel is fine, breakfast is great and the place is pleasant, except housekeeping did not vacuum and the carpets needed it.
We did not eat dinner at the hotel but there is a great deck overlooking the marina where steaks can be had. Upon traveler recommendations we ate at Der Haven Van Huizen and the food and service were both excellent, especially if the weather is good and the seating on the deck by the canal is open.
As a family, the hotel has no special arrangements or entertainment for children but do bring a beach chair and beach toys so kids can play on the lake, if not necessarily swim (the water has some blue-green floating algae that may bother some kids).

Room Tip: As for rooms overlooking the lake.

Hotel with a great view to the bay in very quiet place. We stayed 3 days in here for Keukenhof Tulip festival and 4th time Amsterdam trip. Overall its not bad.
Rooms are unusually big for European hotel. Bathroom has a tob , shower and separate toilet depends on which size of room you book. It was cold when we arrived but after turning on the heater which is under a bedroom windows bathroom floor was warm.
They charge for adaptors so don't forget to bring yours. Also if your device is too strong bathroom won't work so what I did was I plugged in my hair straightener and dryer to the corner in a bedroom next to a big mirror.
Bed is an average not too hard .

I WAS DISSAPOINTED about a smell in the room even carpets looked new and room and the hotel was non smoking. But this smell is constant and its like unwashed armpit or weeds smell. So don't suggest it for people with allergies, my husband suffered a lot especially after a tulipfest.

All soft furniture was very very filthy and dirty full of spots and hair??? Towels were rough and used trillion times like a mop but it doesn't bother me since I carry my own.

Breakfast is overpriced 17.50 for person which explains free parking dilemma. Nothing fancy average breakfast which is 7 or 8 € in Amsterdam.

Staff is helpful and fast.

They have an Indonesian restaurant we didnt eat there.

Do not order Italian dish in hotels restaurant. Salmon was from can and tagliatelle was dry, tasteless.

Nightlife sucked!

We decided to not come back until our retirement because everything was in driving area and pretty far from hotels location.

Dear Zhyldyz B,

Thank you for staying in our hotel. It is nice to hear that you liked the room. We are constantly working on improving our hotel. Your comments were that you had to pay to use an adapter but it only was a guarantee and you get it back when the adapter is returned to the reception.

Also very sorry about the scent in the room and we concluded that someone next to your room had been smoking in the room before you got into it. We introduced a new smoking policy and when you ignore it you will be warned and fined, so things like this won't happen anymore.

The towels are will be replaced next week with organic, so you don't need to bring your own next time.

We have discussed the quality of the food and a new menu will be introduced soon. From next week food will be prepared on the barbeque on the terras.

Kind regards
