“Gem of a place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2013

Cannot believe we waited so long to discover this gem of a place. Honest, friendly and top service with outstanding food that was presented as a paradise waiting to be explored. Very creative balance of flavours, and so pretty on the eye. The owners obviously have their full heart and oomph behind this top business. A wonderful discovery so close by. Thanks for a special evening. Wish you all the very best, but seems you have everything perfectly in control, so just enjoy the ride. Xx

“Fantastic Lunch!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2012

We have been to l’Altelier before for lunch and dinner and we were always very happy with the service and the high quality food. This time we went there for lunch. Because of the nice weather we had our aperitif and delicious accompanying appetizers outside while choosing our menu.
Front of house was very helpful and nothing seemed too much trouble. So we could relax and enjoy what was to come.
We opted for the 4 course surprise menu with the wine arrangement. The sommelier made a very helpful suggestion regarding the drink & drive problem. They offered a “half -wine arrangement”, which means you still get the matching wine with each dish – only half of the normal measure. Great idea!
We had two wonderful amuse bouche – creative and very tasty followed by 4 fantastic courses. Taste, composition quality and presentation of all dishes were fabulous.
The scallops with Livar belly pork and veal stew was a great tasting dish. For the main course we were served venison which was so tender it seemed to melt in the mouth. We loved the little bacon polenta cakes served with this dish.
After 3 fantastic courses the pre-dessert set the mark for two lovely desserts. The light vanilla flavoured mascarpone cream topped with pineapple ice-cream and a foam of basil was fabulous. The main dessert with chocolate mousse, a little chocolate ganache cake topped with a jelly of red berries was also a hit.
Surprisingly the chef hasn’t got a star, because his food is better than most of the Michelin one-stared restaurants we have eaten in.
We finished this lavish lunch with coffees which were served with little sweet treats.
An absolutely great lunch- not cheap, but well worth every penny.

“Super lecker - great food and service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2012

Just back from lunch at L'Atelier. We moved to Aachen from the UK 8 months ago and a friend in Aachen recommended we go here. We were not disappointed! This is the best we have eaten since moving here. Moreover, the service was timely (not a given in Germany, in our experience) and very friendly. The food was just delicious. Two different amuse bouches before starters were very well judged. The presentation and flavours of the starters and main courses were lovely and the seasoning very spot on. Lovely chocolates and pastries came with coffee (we had no room for dessert!). What is more, they catered effortlessly for a gluten free diet saying any dish could be adjusted and providing gluten free rolls.

As someone previously commented, this is Michelin class cooking. This is accompanied by a compact but interesting and good value wine list.

This was so good we booked a table whilst we were there to return in a few weeks time. Congratulations to the chef and his lovely wife who seved us on running such a fine restaurant.

“Excellent fine dining”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2012

On the last day of our holiday in Zuid-Limburg, we went out for a much-anticipated dinner at l'Atelier, having read the reviews. On the first day of their new menu, we were among the first to experience the new creations. Each of the five courses served was a very well-balanced, sometimes complex flavour experience, beautifully accompanied with the wines served by the very knowledgeable owner/sommelier/front of house.

The atmosphere of the restaurant is chic, but relaxed at the same time. The open kitchen, central in the restaurant, is surrounded by two-, four-seated tables, but due to the arrangement we did not experience it as busy or crowded at all.

All in all, this has been one of the most memorable dinners in a long while, absolute top quality food and very friendly service.
