The Graaf Bernstorff is a very nice hotel on a rather quiet and charming island. We spent 3 nights there. The hotel is the nicest on the island of Schiermonnikoog, it is central, a hotel bus picks you up at the ferry stops 3 km away, bikes can be rented around the corner and the terrace seems to be the place to be sitting at for tea or aperitif.
Rooms are stripped bare to a minimum but comfortable and spotless. The restaurant on the other hand is very charming and the food is really good although lacking in choice, a surprise menu is imposed with a certain number of courses but with special care for special requirements.
Everything on the island can be done from the hotel where the staff at the reception or the owners themselves are very helpful.
Unfortunately, the restaurant seems to be understaffed. It takes quite a while to be noticed and served. Apparently a common thing in the Netherlands. Still, if you'd like to have a coffee after dinner, it takes about 10 minutes for a waiter to come, and 15 more for your coffe to arrive. But spending quality time on an island requires patience too and that's relaxing. The Graaf Bernstorff is indeed very relaxing.
