I spent one night at this hotel on business in the area. The location is a little strange but it was fine for me because I had lifts arranged. The small reception area is friendly and welcoming. This hotel doesn't accept bill back, so be prepared to pay for your room when you check in. I stayed in room 12 on the ground floor behind the fake plant with half an inch of real dust on the fake leaves. The room was very cold with single glazed windows, there was dust on most surfaces, the shower curtain had seen better ideas and there was only hot water in the en-suite and no tea / coffee making facilities or toiletries. The room was small with a desk and 2 single beds squeezed in so I was relieved I was only there for one night.
The restaurant was nicely presented and the bar staff were friendly. No gin but a pleasant (Freisian?) dry white wine was a good substitute. The menu was all meat dishes but the chef kindly prepared a vegetarian tagliatelle dish for me and it was very tasty indeed. The breakfast buffet was a bit lacking but I only left myself 10 minutes anyway so a bowl of cereal and a coffee on the hoof was adequate.
There was a large screen in the restaurant showing football but the volume was off so it didn't take over the room, thankfully.
I don't expect to be back in Drachten soon but there are a few alternatives in the area that I'll try before I'd stay at Emjee again (known locally as Marathon) with its likeness to Travelodge rather than Best Western. It's a shame really because the staff were very friendly and I felt welcome but it was just a bit grotty and in need of curtains that aren't see-through. Nice views of the garden but not convinced the neighbouring houses don't cop an eyeful on a regular basis!
