We stayed in Van der Valk Hotel in March 2007. Overall hotel is pleasant: room is a good size, new construction, with Internet connection, and TV (few channels in English such as CNN, etc). Bathroom is nice too. If you need iron or board, call the reception desk. No coffee or tea appliance. Food in hotel restaurant was fine. Menu wasn’t bad but after staying three weeks in hotel the food kind of got boring. Restaurant staff was very friendly and pretty much everybody speaks English.
Van der Valk Hotel is located in the middle of nothing. If you want to go shopping or entertain yourself, there is literary nothing around, especially if you come during the rainy season. Ohh, they have bowling. DT Drachten is 25-30 min walking distance, and again, nothing’s there either.
The only thing I didn’t appreciate is housekeeping staff. Didn’t do much, didn’t change sheets after 10 days, we had to call. Pay attention to dirty rugs they use. See attached fingerprints picture, and she was supposed to change our pillowcases?
P.S. It’s a 4* hotel, not 3*.
