“Very good and clean hotel for a reasonable price”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2013

Very good beds (boxspring) in our room. Room and bathroom were very clean and modern. Room was not very big but big enough and must be placed into comparison to the price. Breakfest was very good but basic but I like basic (because it is healthier). The coffee is filtercoffee and I liked it.You can make fresh pressed orange juice for yourself. Hotel is located in the middle of Hollum and close to the beach. It is preferable to rent a bike when you visit Ameland. There are more roads for cyclists than for cars on the island.

Room Tip: Every room is good. If you stay for a week or longer, take not the cheapest room because you will ha...

Nothing really wrong with this hotel, but the quality/price ratio is a bit off in my opinion. Rooms are OK and the bathroom with whirlpool is even great. It is however nothing special. Especially for breakfast there is only little choice and not good quality (instant coffee machine, etc).

Maybe better hotels around. If you like to go to restaurants and do not have a car with you on the island, I recommend you stay in Nes as there is only 1 OK restaurant in Hollum and Nes is a 10 km bike ride..

That is of course my personal opinion. If you are looking for a very quite, normal place Het Zeepaardje would actually be a good option.

Great place to stay, wonderfully authentic. Friendly staff and good service. Breakfast was plain but good, every day a different offer. Modern interior in an antique house (1700-ish). We had a small room but that was fine and the bathroom was very modern and clean.

small (10 rooms) and recently re-opened hotel in the nicest village (Hollum) of the small Island Ameland. The hotel has a strong feeling of a Bed & Breakfast, due to the fact that there is a very large living room with all amenities to spend a cosy evening (or even entire day; especially useful on one of those rainy days) : Wii, tv, books, children toys and games, large sofas, free coffee & tea throughout the entire day. If you bring your own lunch ingredients, you are allowed to prepare and eat it in the hotel.
We stayed in the DeLuxe room with a very large whirlpool. Actually, the room itself is not that large, but the whirlpool is (easily for two persons), as is the entire bathroom.
Bed is very comfy and large. Complementary babycot available. Breakfast buffet is sufficiently varied and tasteful. Staff is very kind and helpful. Can't think of any negative points.

Room Tip: If you really want a treat : choose the one-and-only DeLuxe room with whirlpool.

My partner and I thoroughly enjoyed our weekend at Het Zeepaardje! Check-in was easy despite the fact that employees are not always at the hotel (a phone on the desk rings to the cell phone of a nearby owner). The hotel has a clean, modern design that is also cozy and a little bit quirky. Our room was absolutely gorgeous with a comfortable big bed, plenty of shelves and drawers (no closet, though space for hanging clothes), and an immaculate, large bathroom. We opted for a deluxe room and had plenty of space, including a sofa.

The common spaces are big and welcoming. In the lounge, there's an enormous leather couch, several chairs surrounding a gas heater, books, games, and a big TV with a Wii. Adjacent to the lounge is the dining area with tables for 2 or 4 persons and free coffee and tea at all times. Breakfast was typically Dutch - a selection of breads, cold cuts, cheese, eggs, yogurt and cereal.

The hotel is in the center of Hollum, about a five minute walk from the bars and around the corner from several restaurants. The beach is about 1 km away. The bus from the ferry stops just around the corner.

We were extremely pleased with our experience here and plan to return again. Definitely check it out if you want to stay on Ameland!
