“Not 4 star service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2011

It was very cold in our room (facing north) when we checked in. The heating was off and we couldn't turn it on. We had wanted to freshen up a bit after our long journey but it was far too cold in the bathroom. Apparently in this season (it was warmish outside this day in May) the heating is only turned on at night. I find it absolutely not 4-star worthy that I cannot regulate myself how warm/cold I want my room to be! Also note that the hotel (4 star!) has no A/C in the rooms.
No free internet in the hotel, either!
The food was okay but nothing to write home about. Wines are very expensive.
Breakfast was good but I don't like those bake-off rolls and such. The bakery is only 100 m away!
The staff were friendly but, although they promised to turn the heating on, they didn't until after dinner. A confirmation of the cliché of the Dutch being economical ...

Husband and I stayed one night. First impression of the room was not so good. The room looked spartan with two very uncomfortable looking chairs, no airco (for what promised to be the hottest night of the year) and no coffee/tea. There were also some dead spider bodies on the ceiling. However, the hotel also has some definite plusses. The beds proved very comfortable, the location is super quiet and the window could be left open without us being invaded by insects. The breakfast was simple but good. So, we had a good night and a comfortable stay and I can recommand this hotel after all provided expectations are realistic.

Very comfortable hotel on a nice location. Spacious room with terrace.
The restaurant offers good food in a nice atmosphere. Spacious lounge. Several biking routes cross in the village, so it's easy to have wonderfull tours through the woods.
Do not expect nightlife here. It's all quiet.

Odoorn is a very quiet village in the beautiful province of Drente in the Hondsrug region. Excellent for biking but do not expect a bustling entertainment environment, which in fact is not why you visit this region.
Lubbelinkhof is the top-hotel in the village. Situated in an old building with new annexes, but with very modern, design-like interiors. The rooms are spacious but the basic (be it sufficient) furniture make you feel a bit in a business, rather "clean" environment. Nothing negative but if you look for a cosy room, you might be a bit disappointed.
The breakfastbuffet is rather standard, served in the very nice restaurant. However, the service needs some upgrading. During our 4 day stay we noticed several times that the waitress had insufficient attention for the need of supplying juice, bread and/or eggs/bacon. Dinner was fine.
Summarizing: a good hotel and restaurant, but some attention needed for better service during breakfast.

We stayed for 3 days in hotel Lubbelinkhof in Odoorn, 7 km from Emmen. We did visit a lot of hotels in Emmen the last years but this new hotel is great. Large rooms, a great restaurant and a great service.
