“Gorgeous hotel, great hosts”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2011

My boyfriend and I recently (October) stayed here for three days as we were attending a friend's wedding close by . The drive up to the hotel is really actually fine... a little bumpy but the scenery makes up for it. The hotel is just gorgeous. Rustic with so much character. We had the African Room, which was just as it looks like on the photos. The bed was super comfy and the soft bedding smelt so clean.

The hosts Neil and Iain are great. We had a very short stay so wanted to make the most of it. We asked Neil and Iain for suggestions of a vineyard to check out and they did not hesistate to help. They recommended their favourite, which turned out to be a great little organic vineyard about 45 minutes drive from the hotel. We had a three course meal at the hotel on one of the nights, which was really tasty and a great atmosphere too.

Would definitely not only recommend this place. I would go back and re visit. That is a rare one for me to say as I generally prefer to explore new places. Check it out... ou won't be disappointed.

Thank you so much for your lovely review. We were only too glad to point you in the direction of Parés Baltà vineyard - they are so friendly there, we have never had anyone come back disappointed! It was great to meet you and your friends who stayed with you during the wedding weekend and we hope to see you again sometime soon.

We stayed early part of August with our 2 children and can honestly say we haven't enjoyed a hotel as much for so long.

Yes the road up to it is a nightmare, ( had to do it 18 times, yes you end up counting) they don't own it and the local council won't do anything about it. If the NYC guy had bothered to ask, but clearly this was not for them so be it.

Iain and Neil as the vast majority say, are excellent hosts and great company. Iain's dinner was enjoyed by all including our 10 and 9 year old. Off the beaten track certainly, quiet yes! Mosquitos yes!! Truly a great place yes.

The only issue now is when we can get back and they promised me the mosquitos were unusual.... we will see!

Thanks guys see you soon !! RCNA

Room Tip: The bungalow has 2 big rooms that can sleep 5 in their own beds.

Hotel Sumidors is not for everyone and I suspect that NYCTRAVELGUY999 would not have gone to this hotel out of choice if it had not been for the wedding he was attending.

For us, who stayed for a week following the wedding it was a great place to unwind and chill out. Neil and Iain are very friendly hosts and happy to help and give advice on places to eat and visit. Iain cooked some delicious dinners and it was a pleasure to dine and converse with the boys.

The location is very peaceful and yes the track is rutted but given the gradient and the fact that when it rains there it comes in torrents there is not much that can be done to improve the surface as it will simply be washed away. Views from all round the property are wonderful and the grounds are delightful.

We enjoyed the laid back atmosphere with the honesty bar, the rooms with their eclectic mix of furnishings and of course the dogs and the cat. It felt, as a previous reviewer stated, like coming home each night.

We would throughly recommend Hotel Sumidors and hope to go back again surely the best form of recommendation for the property.

We had our wedding at Hotel Masia Sumidors this August, and what a spectacular experience it was! We were at Sumidors for the whole week with family and friends, a perfect setting up in the hills above Sitges but just close enough for us to easily go down to Sitges for the beach, to Barcelona, Montserrat, and Tarragona. Every morning, the breathtaking views of the vineyards below, the sweet mountain air, and the gorgeous authenticity of the 400+ year old facade of the Masia with flowers and herbs growing over its surface inspired a new adventure. This is Spain and Catalonia at its most beautiful and poetic!

We visited Sumidors last year for the first time on our way down to the Costa Blanca and were swept away by its elegantly rustic charm, the many interesting travellers we met there, and our wonderful hosts. We loved the terraces, tucked away quiet spots, and overall tranquilty. The swimming pool overlooking the mountainscape is one of my favorite places--nice and deep and good for real swimmers with a more shallow area for cooling off or relaxing. (This isn't a splash pool or merely decorative!) It ended up being the setting for our marriage vows with a breathtaking view of the surrounding mountains.

Many of the lovely people we met our first time at Sumidors were regular guests of the hotel, coming back frequently and each with their favorite room. All the hotel guests look forward to the sumptuous breakfast served each morning on the large terrace with fresh baked bread and croissants (even our French guests approved!!), cheese, meats, and good variety of cereal (the children were not finicky with the selections). The owners are also great chefs and offer delicious and very affordable set menu dinners at the hotel. They did a fabulous BBQ for the welcome dinner for our wedding guests. The honor bar is nicely stocked with drinks and snacks (another favorite of the kids) and features really exceptional wines from the local Penedes area.

We chose Hotel Sumidors for our wedding because we knew it would be a magical and very unique setting to bring our friends and family to. The owners of Sumidors were extremely helpful during our planning and worked with us to make sure all details were just right. They had great recommendations for local vendors and were very knowlegable about the area.

The wedding itself was amazing. We are posting a few photos from the festivities. We will have memories that will last forever! We'll be back soon again!

Room Tip: The junior suite has a lovely adjacent terrace with a swing

The long drive up steep track to Sumidors is not for a feint hearted driver, but so well worth it.
I can see this place might not be for everyone but if you love charm, appreciate the seriously old farmhouse and the laid back, relaxed but attentive attitude of Neil and Ian you will love it.
The pool is crystal clear with stunning views. Neil cooks a set menu in the evening we enjoyed every morsal, the honesty bar is well stocked and prices very fair. Its not luxury but that not what you are there for - the owners have an on going life long project but I can do nothing but admire them for having the guts to take it on !

Room Tip: Ask the owners to run through options as they vary in size and location.

The place has a great potential, yet it seems as if the owners haven't put one cent into maintaining it since it was bought 6 years ago. The road leading to the hotel is barely suitable for a tank, huge pot holes. The hotel can be cleaner.
We were there for a wedding, our group was small and very friendly - yet the owners seem to be bothered with everything, they're were reluctant to help with minor trivial requests and gave the impression that would rather be left alone and not have any guests - that's a shame

Had this person actually been to the hotel in the 6 years prior to his visit, he would have noticed a considerable change to both the gardens and the buildings as well as a host of 'unseen' improvements (rewiring, new septic tank, fire prevention measures). As he had not, his comment regarding how much we have spent is rather ill-informed.

There are enough comments concerning the road, on here and other sites, for us not to repeat them all again. Suffice to say, the road is a public road, to which it is illegal for us to make repairs. Yes, there are some pot-holes and the first trip up can be a little nerve-wracking but, as has been proved by most of our guests, it is quite easy to drive a regular vehicle up to the hotel. Only guests, who have made no attempt to research our location and expect us to be like any other hotel, are unprepared for the track.

Regarding the statement that we 'seem to be bothered with everything, they're were reluctant to help with minor trivial requests and gave the impression that would rather be left alone and not have any guests' - we refer you to the review from the (paying) couple who actually hosted the wedding - see review from David Y "Simply the best with memories for a lifetime"

Returned for the second time this year and yet again the hotel, location and owners did not fail to impress. This is possibly the best place to go if you are looking for a romantic, relaxing getaway in a beautifully secluded spot, and, with Sitges being only a taxi ride away, also has the option of making it a more lively holiday in the evenings. We will certainly be back!
