“Great Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 20, 2012

Stayed there a few times and i am going back this xmas 2012 with the wife. The facilities within the hotel are wonderful ie: Spa area where you only pay for rental of towel and towelling robe( not expensive ) If you visit on a weekend they have a lot of over 60s from spain and france so they play ballroom music etc for entertainment. But even being young it is still a great atmosphere. Playa de Aro itself is full of restaurants and bars. The local beaches are very beautiful and just down the road 3 km you have the beautiful San Pol beach S'agaro with its beautiful Catalan architecture. The rooms have all recently been re-furbished and are of a very high standard . The premier rooms have jacuzzi bath in the room and lovely balconies to sit relax and watch every body else stroll around the streets of playa. Situated in the very heart of playa only 2 minutes from the beach it is a far superior hotel to nearly all the 4 and 5 star hotels in Playa. I have visited and stayed in quite a few of them and the only advantage they have is the quality of cuisine, evry thing else is sub standard to la Terrassa.

Room Tip: Pay a few extra Euro for a room with a street balcony. The interior rooms with balconies just overlo...

4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2012

I almost started off this review by echoing the review entitled "Nice hotel- shame about the town". However my daughter and her boyfriend (both 19) were with us and they liked the town better than we did, particularly the clothes shops and apparently the men’s shops were even better than the women’s! That said most of us (I think) don’t go on holiday for the shops so my husband and I experienced far more preferable places along that part of the coastline. Platja d'Aro was a good central base for visiting fabulous places like Llafranch, Begur, Pals and St. Marti D'Empuries.
On arrival in Platja d'Aro, we decided that during the 4 days we were there, we would be using the town as a base.
We took up the option of a car parking space through the hotel which was quite literally just around the corner...a minute away. There was an overspill car park a little further away. I strongly recommend you do this.
The hotel welcome was very disappointing, the receptionist gestured for me to wait while she was on the phone and we were given no information about the facilities and meal times of the hotel. This was in sharp contrast to reception at our hotel in Barcelona where the staff were extremely friendly, welcoming and helpful. The reception staff at La Terrassa seemed merely to be performing the minimal function but that might be the difference between a 3 star hotel and a 5 star hotel.....I don’t know.
When we arrived in our rooms 314 and 315, we were initially disappointed, the decor was very 70s, all orange and brown and old wooden furniture but the room was very clean, sheets and towels spotless, a plentiful supple replenished daily and the bathroom was clean with a good shower too though my family wish hotels would do away with shower curtains. In fairness some of the more expensive rooms looked better than ours with more up to date colour schemes.....you cant beat white.
The cleaning staff did a very good job each day and were a pleasant chirpy bunch singing away.
There is a good safe in the room which is free.
Free wifi
No tea/coffee facilities though there was a large fridge which was very useful
Our room had two balconies where you could enjoy some afternoon sun and look toward a pretty little church and hills in the distance. You could also see the car park but it is possible to ignore this and look beyond. The air conditioning needs a bit of an update so it can be adjusted to take account of those of us who like to be cooler.
The food was excellent and I think anyone would be able to find themselves a very adequate breakfast. There were all sorts of breads, bacon, eggs, meats, cheeses, pastries, fruit, juices and hot drinks. We also had the evening meal, again very good value for money, you must try the prawn bruchetta and the creme catalan.
The youngsters enjoyed the pool but it wasn’t the sort of pool it would be a pleasure to sit around reading a book. They also said the gym was as you would expect to find in a hotel.
Overall there were pluses and minuses to this hotel but the minuses weren’t major ones that distract from my family's judgment - this hotel is very good value for money. It is a more than adequate 3 star with great food.

Room Tip: choose a recently reburbished room

4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2009

La Terrassa is very centrally located in Platja d'Aro - just a very short walk to the main street, and about a 5 minute walk to the beach.

The hotel is clean, the staff are friendly with a good understanding of English. The continental breakfast was fine - there was a variety of breakfast options to choose from at the breakfast buffet. The room was clean and large.

A word of caution if you are driving - you should definitely take the parking option. Platja d'Aro gets very, very busy on summer week-ends and there are absolutely no free parking spaces. The only drawback is that the carpark we were assigned was about a 5 to 10 minute walk from the hotel.

Because it is so central, the hotel is a bit noisy at night - I would suggest a room towards the back.

I was not a fan of Platja d'Aro - however, if you are going to stay there, I would recommend this hotel as a good place to stay.
