La Herreria is definitely the best modern hotel we have stayed in, in terms of a stunning modern building, with awesome views across the plains to the mountain range behind.
The lounge was beautiful with great views and lovely modern furniture - very comfortable and stylish.
We stayed in one of the suites, which was luxurious and a great treat in terms of Bang & Olufson TV/DVD/stereo and a two person free stading bath etc but for a hotel which purports to offer a luxury experience, there were definitely problem areas.
The spa was really disappointing - very small, not much going on and not very relaxing. We were very bored after the first half hour. There were no outdoor seating/swimming facilities.
Other aspects of the hotel were unusual; waiting staff in the lounge were very thin on the ground, the restaurant was beyond eccentricity - we weren't given menus at ANY of the meals, just asked how many courses we wanted to each. Each course was then served with an announcement of what it was when it arrived at the table.
My partner was delighted (he had double portions of rare meat, fois gras and fish throughout) - I was starving.
Normally this would be no problem, but the hotel's remote location made finding alternatives difficult (everything was a 20 minute drive away) and we had specifically booked a spa/retreat hotel because we had driven a long way in a two weeks tour and wanted some r&r before going home.
We would give it another go if we were in the area but it definitely wasn't a final destination place for us. It is worth going there for a drink at sunset though - if you could find a member of the bar staff in time!
