“Staff just don't care. Average food. Pricey.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013

Terrible terrible experience. Very slow and careless service for a food that is average at best. The best thing about this restaurant is its view, but you can get that in most coastal places in the island.
We were in early to beat the rush and it still took 3 hours to complete our meal. We asked for a paella and were told it would take 25 minutes. It took 90. Let me remind you, we were in early to beat the rush. Normally that would not be a big deal, but we were with a 22 month old that was hungry and waiting 90 minutes for her food was not fun for anyone. Just tell me you can't cope that it will take more than one hour and we will go somewhere else! maybe they thought that the just would secure the business. Well, think long term! To top it up, staff were rude and kept saying "Just 5 more minutes" for one hour. One long hour. Once the food arrived, it was average at best. The rice was undercooked... after 90 minutes! The starters were oily and the flavour just wasn't there. Oh, and you pay high prices for the privilege.

“Great fish on the windy Lanzarote coast”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2013

We go to Lanzarote every summer as we have a time share apartment at Club La Santa. This is a wonderful place with every type of sports training and competition you could wish for. However, sometimes it's good to get away from CLS and try restaurants elsewhere on the island.

El Risco is in the district of Teguise, but don't be fooled, the restaurant is actually in Caleta de Famara, a village dedicated to surfing some 13 kms from Teguise town. It's tucked away behind the main strip and opens up directly onto the seafront.

The moment you walk in the Cesar Manrique paintings on the wall and the friendly welcome give you confidence. Like most restaurants in Lanzarote it's family run and quite simply furnished, However, glance behind the well-stocked bar and you can see there is a hi-spec kitchen with some serious cooking going on. I went along earlier in the day to book as I was cycling past and was glad I did so. When we returned that evening pretty much all the tables were reserved.

The menu is dedicated to fish and the menu is extensive. We had fish croquettes, octopus and an extraordinary asian style tuna dish to start, followed by a large freshly caught local fish which we shared between the three of us. The quality of the food was outstanding.

The menu is split into traditional and non-traditional dishes. It's fair to say that there are a few things on the non-traditional side, such as barnacles, which I've never tried, but which will be on the list for next time.

The dishes are more than ample in size, in fact after our starters and shared main course we had no room for dessert.

As ever in Lanzarote there is a choice of good local white and rose wines at prices which would be impossible in a London restaurant. We had a bottle of white Bermejo which goes beautifully with the local fish.

In case you're a gin lover, which my daughter is, the patron told us he had a stock of twenty four different gins from which to choose - so you can certainly get the evening off to a flying start!.

All in all a great evening and somewhere we'll be returning to next Summer.

“Amazing fish restaurant with a view”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2013

This restaurant is described as being in Tequise, but is actually in Famara. This is a great little town by the sea, very popular with surfers. The restaurant is situated right on the sea front and has great views of the cliffs and the sea. They mainly serve fish and shellfish but there are other meat and vegetarian options. We popped in earlier in the day to book which was no problem and they asked us to choose which table we would like. The waiter was extremely helpful as our Spanish is very limited and he was able to explain the menu and all the specials in good Englishl. We had octopus, fish croquettes and tuna to start. All were very nice but the tuna was excellent. It came as small chunks of tuna with onion, wrapped in thin slices of pineapple which was one of the best combinations i have tasted. For the main course we discussed with the waiter that we would like to try some local fresh fish, and he said he would select the best ones and amount for three people. The waitress took all of the fish off the bones for us which was very helpful. The fish was excellent, fresh and white, simply done with some salad and canarian potatoes. We have been coming to the island for 8 years but this was our first visit to El Risco, and we will definitely be coming back next year

“Excellent fish restaurant with a view”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2013

My favorite spot in Lanzarote is Famara beach. I love the rough & unspoilt feel and the surf atmo. The wavy sea, long natural beach and the El Risco mountains dropping into the sea are amazing me time after time. Not many places that have this personal impact on me.

From Restaurante El Risco you have a beautiful view on all this. Only therefore you should visit this restaurant. On top of that it is a really good fish restaurant doing efforts to give you a serious dining experience. I had a large fresh fish, my wife the filet of fresh fish, both were just excellent. So tasty that I even did not care for the mojo sauce or lemon on the side, just pure fish.

Prices where surprisingly low to us. For the same budget of these 2 delicious fish meals you can only eat a standard salad or pasta dish in Belgium.

Highly recommended for sea food lovers!

“An eye opener for sleepy lanzarote!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2013

I love the food on the island, this place goes the extra mile - this is a dining EXPERIENCE!

dishes different to the other restaurants (i have tried in LZ) served with panache and professionalism.

Romantic (though a tad brightly lit) with a nice space out back for post meal drinkies and cigarettes; and or engaging with other diners.

Three of us arrived at 21;00, at 02:00 I was feeling guilty for the waiters but we were left to enjoy without any concern to the time. 90 euros with 2 bottles of local wine

Make a point to go at dusk so you have views of the Famara Beach and cliffs.
