We returned to this hotel after staying last year. The hotel has been refurbished and is very clean and nicely presented and the staff were really lovely and helpful. It has been taken over by a French company and now has 98% French guests. I was happy with that as speak French but all the entertainment was in French which was no good for English guests and my boyfriend. There was very loud music by the main pool from 9.30 until late every day and into the night and it felt like a French holiday camp with all the noise, announcements of events etc during every day. The food had improved but you had to queue for your food daily, the restaurant was full on a number of occasions and you could not get a table. The tables were left uncleared for breakfast and dinner and they often ran out of cups at breakfast - it was regularly chaos, particularly during the French half term with all the children. We would return but would ask for an apartment at the back of the hotel away from the continual noise.

Room Tip: For a quiet room ask for one at the back of the hotel by the Zen Pool (which isn't heated)

We have stayed at the sun royal now known as the Thb royal some 7 times over 7 years. At x mass and Easter Many of the staff remained the same over that time. Initaly we were disappointed that we were offered an alternate of the thb tropical . I don't know the true reasons for many other Brits being moved in the same way but I continue to have respect and confidence in Thb. The tropical has been a fantastic apart hotel excellent food fantastic staff clean it just doesn't get better than this even for far more expensive holidays.
What I had previously got at the royal I got and some at the tropical always having booked direct and not through an agent THB continue to be my prefrance
It would seem that appreciate what their customers need and endever to deliver

Totally unsuited to British holidaymakers. Indeed unsuitable for any nationality other than French. Food poor quality at times, often cold and hardly any of it labelled. Entertainment very disappointing and only language spoken was French

Have just returned from a fab week. Loved the hotel will definitely return. It was predominately French but we didn't find that a problem.staff friendly spotlessly clean. There were 2 pool one which was quieter than the main one. Don't b put off by reviews we loved it .

We found out too late and Thompson's would not change the booking. First the good points. The staff were great and the place is very clean. It is owned by the French for the French. The English are totally superfluous. Take plenty Euros with you as there is a deposit for everything. The restaurant was like a school canteen at every meal time. (French school children everywhere). The food was poor,repetitive and unimaginative and in now way aimed at the British.We did attend the entertainment but apart from a mime scene we were unable to understand it.There is nowhere comfortable to sit and have a drink after dinner as the bar is only equipped with plastic tables and chairs.

Room Tip: All the rooms are the same. Ask for a pool view.

We have stayed at Sun Royal as it was on seven occasions as independent travellers. Four years ago we arrived to be told that our apartment had suffered storm damage and water had leaked in making it uninhabitable. We were transferred to Sun Tropical ( now THB Tropical Island). What an awful experience that was. We complained when we returned home and were offered reduced tariff on our next visit. Our next two visits were fine. However, we booked March 2014 for February 2015. On our arrival we were told the hotel was full and we were told we were being transferred to the Tropical. We were less than pleased and made our feeling very clear to the reception staff to no avail. We had no option but had to go to the Tropical which honestly has no character and is like a prison barracks which we had previously complained about. We tolerated the Tropical for eight days before persuading the Management to move us back to THB Royal, It was a total surprise to find the French invasion. On our return home the web tells us that Club Marmara advertises 100% residency. After reading tripadvisor we were lucky to have water on tap. It does beg the question about discrimination. It is obvious THB are giving priority to this French club and disposing of English guests as and when it suits them. Our plans to spend our golden wedding anniversary there next year has gone up in flames as there is no way we could spend time at the Tropical again.
There are plus factors: Esther at the Tropical reception was wonderful ( she was at the Royal previously) and Romy Puschman has always gone out of her way to look after us.
Sadly for us it looks like the end of an era.

Room Tip: Apartments in the 400 series are sunniest

We have stayed in the THB royal on previous occasions but never again......... On arriving we were pounced on by French holiday reps .On checking in the receptionist spoke to us in French. looking around the reception area it didn't take long to realise that the hotel was geared towards the French. The staff spoke only French on occasions they did speak we were greeted with Bonjour. The menu was typically French along with the entertainment. However this would be acceptable if I was holidaying in France but as I was holidaying in Lanzarote I would have expected the common language throughout the hotel to be Spanish. We were informed by the management that the hotel had been taken over by a French holiday company. The meal times were stressful because the OTHER guests were very rude and obnoxious. We felt very isolated, we spoke to two other couples who had the same experiences as us and also felt very intimidated. The hotel has been recently refurbished to a reasonable standard (for a 3 *) however there was no comfortable seating in the bar area, rather like a works canteen. We spent most of the days outside the hotel even though we were all inclusive only returning for meals.

We regret not having met your expectations regarding your stay; in effect we work also with a French agency that’s why the major part of the customers and hotel staff speak in French. Anyway we are not faced about a problem of nationalities and we adapt all needs to all customers regardless of their nationality as the satisfaction of our guest is the most important thing at all.

Regarding the menu, we think we try to make a wide and different variety to suit all tastes and people, and concerning the entertainment, the agency has his own animation club, but we also have international entertainer around the hotel.

We feel really sorry that you felt isolated and bad feelings regarding your stay, this was not our purpose. Anyway, we would be very happy to welcome you again in THB Royal.
