“Very, very basic. Would never return there.no entertainment.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2012 via mobile

Me my wife and my 2yr old stayed here for a week all inclusive at thend of september 2012 for our first family and after a four hour flight and a 40 min bus ride we arrived at the hotel. Check rather quick and and have to find our own room, hungry form the traveling we take our child for some tea. Arriving at canteen we found the food very basic and very bland and mostly stale. With a laminated piece of paper above the rubbish selection off food stating to guests that if the food is not hot enough then they should use a microwave, looking around there wasn't even one in sight. Leaving back to are rooms still hungry and a hungry 2 year old we had to go the on site shop and buy some cereal for our tea. I would be here all day writing about the this complex but ill just shorten it down. Ther was absolutely no entertainment on at a night. We was back at the room for 10 o'clock every night due to boredom. During the day the pools where freezing cold had to limit my two year old to half an hour at a time or she would turn blue. To many extras cost money like more channels for the tv had to hire a remote hire the safe wifi was 30 euro a week air con was an extra i could go on and on but to some we would have had a better holiday if we stayed at a caravan park in in wales.

Had previously stayed at Cay Beach Sun in Gran Canaria which is part of the same group and this was much the same. 3 stars are fair, slightly dated rooms but Notting to worry about. Everything worked, clean and tidy, comfy beds and plenty of room in wardrobes etc. Had a blip with air con and reception got the maintenance man out and it was fixed in a jiffy - great service. regular maid and change of bedding and towels. Shop on site is well stocked and very reasonably priced - some items cheaper than home supermarkets which was a pleasant surprise. We were self catering so ate out most of the time but the all inclusive folks said the food was good but not much change from day to day.

Pay extra for air con in summer (3 Euro per night) - build it into the overall cost and it is well worth it.

3 pools, well set out and not salt water which was a bonus Pool areas kept clean and today and just enough sun beds for everyone - but could do with a few more brollies. Pool bar was good, music from time to time but not all day. Usual daytime entertainment (water polo and aqua aerobics) but they were short and sweet and did not get in the way of other swimmers.

Great place for young families but was not as quiet as we would have liked really, having said that we like it very quiet and expected it to be more older people after the schools had gone back but there were quite a few younger couples with pre school children. Lots of Polish visitors as well - probably a 50/50 mix with the Brits and all very amenable so don't let this put you off for any reason.

15 mins good walk to the beach/promenade and restaurants/shops etc. Great choice of places to eat and cheaper than home. The Volcan has fab food and can be found on the front. Brisa- Del -mar was very average and wish we had not tried that one - tinned veg - yuk! Alcohol in shops is very cheap - a litre of Smirnoff for example was about £9 - buy it in resort to take home (if you have the weight available in your checked in luggage of course) rather than the airport as their prices are not much different to home (and with Ryanair you have to include it in carry on weight if you buy it in the airport anyway). Bar prices are about the same as home in most places but the local beer is reasonable and very nice.

if you have a car you should check out 'Papagayo' - the beaches, which are about a 5 min drive away from the hotel - like heaven with the door shut! Very quiet, nothing there at all, beautiful white sandy beaches and clear blue sea. Whole area is a preserved natural 'park' so take your lunch and drinks with you as there is nothing available when you get there (apart from a man selling cans of pop and ice-creams from a cool box - he walks along the beach - not cheap though at about 2 Euro a can). Well worth a trip. Watch out for the nudists here, there are a few but not so you would notice (unless you are really looking lol!).

All in all we had a great holiday and I would be happy to recommend.

Room Tip: Email the week before with any requests. We did - and asked for a quieter room and they were happy t...

Just returned from a 2 week break here with 2 siblings. Having just read the previous few reviews have to agree that check in wasn't good. We arrived late and just wanted to dump our stuff and have a drink however the receptionist took so long because anything and everyone was a distraction and she would go off talking and helping others whilst she could have concentrated on the job in hand, all the while we were stood getting more frustrated by the minute.
Having checked in we went to the bar and were VERY abruptly told by an arrogant little Spanish man that the bar was closed, however the drink was still flowing for the all inclusive guests, after that we decided that we would not spend our money on the complex and we didn't.

The apartment was fine, no complaints, I read about how people don't like the decor or the fact that the grouting isn't whiter than white but who cares, it's somewhere to sleep and the fact that it was clean was enough. Definitely go for the air con, it is worth the extra money, although the unit was only in the bedroom it made a huge difference to the living area as well.

The pool was ok too, we were always able to get hold of sunbeds the only thing I will say is that it probably could have been cleaner, we are early birds out on the balcony at stupid o'clock and in comparison to other complexes we have stayed on not once did we see anyone cleaning the pool,

I have to mention this also, whilst we were staying one of our party slipped on the wet tiles on the balcony and broke her arm during a storm (we were trying to get the beach towels in lol), there was a mad dash, ambulance, hospital, flight home for one for surgery etc but I have to say there was a certain receptionist, didn't catch her name she was a dutch lady, blonde hair, she was so incredibly lovely, very obliging, nothing was too much trouble for her, she helped us out so much during the emergency we had, she translated documents from the hospital and was just amazing.....even after my sister was flown home we had 3 days to go and every day she approached us and asked how was the patient and if we had been in contact for her and on the last day she said to send her regards.

A definite asset to Cay beach sun!!!

Playa Blanca.......10 min stroll to the promenade you will pass the Italian Job restaurant, if you like Italian then it's the place to be and trust me I am fussy!!
On the Promenade...Jungle bar, cocktail bar with 70's and 80's music and live artist every night, great place to chill and watch day turn to night.
Turn left and 15 min walk along the coast is Rubicon marina Lani's Steakhouse, fantastic place to eat, My starter could have easily passed as a main course so if you have a big appetite then this is the place to go.

Anyway, to summarise on the complex....probably a good place if you went all inclusive, would we go back? NO

Hope this helps!!!

We've recently returned from a weeks all inclusive holiday at the Cay Beach Sun, and I can honestly say that we would definitely go back! I travelled with my partner and our 3 year old, and to be honest, did not know what to expect following the mixed reviews on here, but we were pleasantly surprised! We found all of the staff to be helpful and pleasant enough. The grounds are nice, neat and well kept. Our apartment was fine - exactly what I'd expect from a 3 star. It was basic, but spacious and well equipped, and very clean, contrary to what other reviewers have said! The maid service was great - we had clean towels and bedding at least 4 times during the week. I'd recommend paying the small charge and refundable deposit for the air conditioning - we tried to manage without it but had to cave in, it was so hot! It was definitely worth it - it worked absolutely fine! The pool area again was fine - great kids pools and everywhere was kept clean and tidy by the maintenance team. They were out first thing every morning! One morning we noticed a broken tile on a step, and this was cordoned off then repaired before lunch! The food was absolutely fine - we never had any issues, and I can be quite a fussy eater. Breakfast was always a choice of fried food, cereals, continental selection or various fruits. Lunch and dinner were again really good - plenty of choice! There is a salad bar, soup selection, a kids area consisting of nuggets, fish fingers etc, then chips, rice, various potatoes, pastas and sauces, to go with a varied selection of meat and fish dishes. We only ate out twice during the whole holiday, and that was just by choice as a fantastic restaurant was recommended to us along the seafront in Playa Blanca (Volcan de Timanfaya - try it!!) The entertainment is low key and if I'm honest, directed at the Polish guests, but the two entertainers do a great job at trying to get everyone involved. There are activities daily at the poolside, water polo etc, then a half hour kids club every evening followed by something for the adults, like a quiz. The bar service at night wasn't great, usually just one member of staff serving but this didn't bother us too much. We did tend to keep ourselves to ourselves but we found the other guests friendly and actually made small talk with a few families who were on their 3rd or 4th visit to the Cay Beach. The hotel is a 5 minute walk from the beach and approx 10 mins from the centre of Playa Blanca, but we enjoyed venturing out and exploring the area. Playa Blanca is lovely, and as a base for a budget family holiday, I'd definitely recommend the Cay Beach.

Stayed here again in September 2012 with my husband and my 18month old, second visit since march. Reception staff recognised us and I had emailled ahead to have a high chair hired for us. Whether it was because we had stayed there before we were allocated a 2 bedroom apartment (which we had last time) even though we hadn't paid for it. We went self catering as we have a few restaurants we love to visit each time- Lani's grill bar for pizza and pasta and Volcan Timanfaya for our steak and grill- still as good as ever.
Weather poor this time but as my daughter is now running around we used the park and tennis courts and football pitch a bit more for her.
I can see that the hotel food is still poor and notice that Thomson are using hotel on self catering basis next year as it is such a shame that a great hotel is often badly reviewed as a result of the food when we have always gone self catering there.
Apartment facilities great- very clean and not shabby (unlike review below). Polish staff running the activities still tried to get the british people involved in the games etc.
Unfortunately this time I did notice that after using the large pools there was a green residue on the bathers etc even after washing them, hadn't noticed this before.

Will be back again next year.
Booked transfer with resort hoppa £21 return for 2 adults and a child- fantastic. Large queue at airport but quickly dealt with, sent me a text with oick up time and faxed through to the hotel, wonderfully organised.

Room Tip: Room 123 is a two bed with large balcony- by volley ball court and walkway but only 6 rooms accessed...

well I was a little worried after reading the reviews on here, but on the whole we loved it! our apartment was round the back of the complex it was spacious, clean and comfortable. We are a couple in our late 30s (a rare holiday without the kids), Loved the pool areas, there was always a man cleaning round them first thing in the morning. It was quiet and relaxing. Not much for us to do here in the evenings (didnt fancy the indoor bar with kids entertainment) we usually sat out on the top terace with numeerous different drinks or walked into the town (not far about 10 mins walk).. yes the food is a little repetative but on the whole a good choice for everyone and plenty of it. I wouldn't go back as I dont believe in going back to the same place but I would reccomend it to friends who wanted a complete getaway like we did.

Room Tip: 407 for a very quiet apartment round the back, no one walked past it, lovely!
