I was at the Iberostar Papagayo for a wekk and just returned a couple of days ago. The hotel and grounds were lovely, absolutely spotless. Our room had a massive balcony overlooking the pool with the sea in the background. The view was stunning. The room was spotless and the cleaner changed the towels every day and the bed linen every other day. It was about a 15 minute walk to the Marina which was a lovely walk round the coast. The food was fine. I am a very fussy eater but always managed to get something I liked.

The only down fall was the entertainment at night. There was a couple of shows which were very good but the entertainment on the other nights which was done by hotel staff was really poor.

However I was just there to relax for a week and I had a great time at this hotel, will definetley return next year.

“the real family review. trust me read it.”

Iberostar Papagayo

Jun 15, 2008

Here we go then, The good points. The hotel is about 10 year old and is quite modern, very clean, helpfull staff who adore young children(a bit to much so be aware).
The food selection is great as is the drinks, the rooms are quite good and the maid service is outstanding. There is a constant breeze there so its quite cool in the shade.
There are plenty of room around the pool with enough sun loungers to go around.
The hotel is suituated about 15 mins walk from the marina, and a 30 min walk to playa blanca, (the main resort)
But taxis are cheap enough it was 3 Euro's to go into Playa Blanca.
And ask for a sea view.WoW.
Time for the bad bits.Sorry...
If you want to be entertained then cancel your booking, There are 3 entertainers (so called) who organise a very limited day time programme of pool arobics in a damn cold pool, a German skittle game, and the odd game of ping pong, Because the hotel is multi lingual the 3 entertainment staff speak 5 languages and repeat what they say 5 times, So when they speak its French Spanish English German And Swedish so it takes about 5 minutes to call one bingo number.
These same staff run the entertainment in the nights(thats indoors so don't bother taking a coat thinking you will be outside).
And in 2 weeks being there they put on 11 shows that were terrible absolutley terrible the worst ive seen.
But 3 nights they had outside shows that were great. Watch the African footprint show very good.
Got Kids?> Then the kids club burnt down at the beginning of May so There are no facilities available indoors for the kids. and when they can be bothered to run the kids club all they do is colour in for hours. around the pool bar.

so in a nut shell.Great if you dont want to entertained and sit by the pool all day. But if you get bored then God help you because there is nothing there to keep you entertained let alone the kids who have to listen to German or Spanish language run kids club..

“Real Class”

Iberostar Papagayo

Jun 12, 2008

The good points about this Hotel is that it has real class. All the staff are outstanding and the Hotel has many facilities. The rooms are fine, especially the sea view ones. All Inclusive is great value and this is a great place to stay.
The poorer points are that it is a bit isolated and the food does get repetitive after a while.
I would not hesitate to recommend this superb Hotel.

Arrived after midnight and was a quick and easy check in. Was on all inclusive and travelling alone. Was promised a cold meal by girl on arrival desk but was not in room, however did not complain as it was late and i was not hungry anyway. Hotel was clean and room was a good size. Food was excellent. Abit out of the way for me but was aware of this at time of booking so no complaints. Entertainment poor.

“great!”

Iberostar Papagayo

May 15, 2008

A lovely hotel with excellent staff. We were upgraded to a suite on arrival after a couple of problems prior to our arrival. This was massive with 2 large bedrooms and bathrooms, and a separate lounge. The balcony was on the corner of the hotel and was so large, we even had sunbeds on it!

We stayed with 2 teenage boys, who had a twin room across from ours which was fine for their needs - however, they found that there was not as much to do as at The Papagayo Arena (we'd stayed there the year before)

Food was excellent with fantastic choice at all meals. Breakfast had the biggest selection of food I have ever seen. The bar was well stocked with lots of brand names, there's a lovely gift shop selling very unusual handbags and jewellery.

Pool area was well looked after with a couple of spa pools.

A very relaxing holiday - more suited to couples and older guests. Very few Brits there - only encountered one other party from Britain, rest were Spanish and German (similar to the Papagayo Arena). This suited us but may not suit everyone, if you are looking for a holiday surrounded by Brits.
