Apartment 33 and 35
Just returned today from a week A/I at the Iberostar Papagayo in Lanzarote with my family.
This is not our first time staying with Iberostar and it wont be our last either.
We were greeted by very friendly and helpful hotel reception staff upon our arrival who spoke very good English.
As there was some availability at the hotel they very kindly upgraded our room to family apartments from a standard hotel room.
The apartments were fantastic and gave my five year old more space to run around and play.
The apartments were situated just across a quiet street next to the main hotel building. Before I go on, I have to point out that the apartments are linked by a very nice internal under road private walkway. Its a straight walk through from the apartments to the main building and is only about 30 feet in length and only accessible to hotel guests. The apartments themselves are spaced out ob two levels and come with either a sun terrace or an enclosed balcony. Ours had a terrace and it was great, complete with table and chairs. Our apartment had a separate double bedroom, a living area with make up bed, a fridge freezer, two electric hobs, a microwave and associated cutlery and dishes. There was also a TV in the room. The main room was air conditioned, as was the bedroom. Both were controlled independently. There was a also a bathroom, complete with bath, shower and bidet and an electronic safe was available for hire.
The rooms were extremely clean and well maintained.
Our family room looked directly onto the family pool area which was very well maintained and very clean. The surrounding gardens and plant were very well kept. This pool was a great place to relax and should you prefer, quieter than the main pool across at the hotel.
We stayed on an A/I basis and the food was excellent. There was always a great choice, and at no point was you left wanting for anything. The restaurant staff were fantastic and could not do enough to please. They were attentive and always ready to help with any requirements and were always smiling.
The main pool area was very clean and spacious with plenty of sunbeds available and parasols. The hotel policy was that you could not reserve sun beds, if you placed a towel on the beds and id not use the beds after 45 mins they would be removed. I think this is a fare system, and we never had any problem getting beds. The pool is large and a free form shape. I must warn you though it is cold. It didn't bother us, but some didn't like it. In my experience most pools are like this. There are a few loose tiles around the pool, but this can be forgiven as it is in use every day of the year. I must note that while I was there I could see that routine maintenance was taking place after a busy summer and no doubt the tiles will be ready for next season.
While sitting around the main pool during the day staff would bring round chocolates, coffees, fresh fruit, ice lollies and smoothie drinks. We thought this was a nice touch during the day and a bit of a treat.
The mini club that runs there for the children was excellent and it kept my daughter busy most of the day. The mini club staff were extremely friendly and smiling all the time, and I know of one five year old who cried today when we left as she was going to miss all her friends and staff.

The entertainment at the hotel was very good and takes place in the Salon Bar. Mini Club starts at 20:30pm and the evening entertainment at 21:45pm. Bar staff throughout the Hotel are excellent and always quick to serve you. Nothing is too much trouble for them. There is wi-fi at the hotel that is chargeable, but you do get 30 mins per day free in the wi-fi lounge.

We all had a fabulous holiday in a beautiful location just a short walk to Plays Dorado.

My wife and i have just returned from an 11 night all inclusive stay , and can honestly say this is a very good hotel , in an excellent location , its great value for money for both couples and families .
Food .... an excellent range of choices at breakfast , lunch and dinner , you will never go hungry as theres something for everyone , well presented and very tasty ..... and a word for the staff , they never stop and work so hard making sure that everyone is happy .
Location .... we had a sea view and it was beautiful , room 358 , we were upgraded at no extra charge to a junior suite , dont know why but i wasnt about to complain !
Sleep quality .... where we were you could have heard a pin drop , i cant comment about the rest of the hotel though , sorry .
All in all a very nice holiday in a nice hotel in a great location , would we go back .... yes . I would recommend walking to the marina rubicon for a drink at one of the numerous bars for a change of scene too , as its lovely down there .

Room Tip: the sea view rooms are spectacular , we had 358 , worth every penny .

My wife and I took our six month old daughter for her first holiday. Went had room 306 as it was a ground floor leading straight out onto the pool, ideal for us. Pros and Cons:
-have to pay 15.90euro a week for safe. Ridiculous in a 4 star
-a/c in rooms and throughout hotel not very good and I was too hot
-no a la carte restaurants
-some shabby areas, fountain broke on main pool and sauna area bit run down, water display not working, filled in pool behind children's play area, water feature in flamingo bat not working.
+clean
+food good, fresh and tasty with lots of choice
+nice location to walk into Marina
Overall good but needs a bit of tidying up. For right price I would recommend.

I'm writing this review while sat in the hotel bar on our second last day at Papagayo. It's been a really good stay and the hotel is very nice. You get the usual high levels of service and efficiency that you would expect from a hotel with predominantly German staff and guests.

The rooms are clean and spacious and the maids are very meticulous. Clean towels daily and beds are changed very often.

The hotel is very close to a small private beach or just a ten minute walk from the more popular playa dorada beach which is also very good.

The food is excellent and there is lots to choose from.

The staff are brilliant and really look after you. They try their best to get you involved and work very hard. The entertainment in the evenings is a bit naff, but not the worst I have seen.

My husband and I booked a last-minute break through 2bookaholiday.com to Lanzarote for ourselves and our two sons (aged 23 & 20 – yes, as long as we keep paying for them, they will keep coming on holiday with us!!!!)
It was our introduction to the Canaries and also to the Iberostar chain of hotels and resorts and on both scores we were not to be disappointed.
We stayed half board at the Iberostar Papagayo and had paid for two double basic rooms, but on arrival were delighted to learn we were to be upgraded to two adjoining sea-facing junior suites.
Check-in was carried out expediently, with the added bonus of being served a welcoming glass of chilled juice while we filled out the required forms. This was a convivial touch, along with the hospitality later shown at check-out. Luggage was stored for our evening flight and guest shower rooms provided for convenience. We felt that this gave out the message that the Iberostar Papagayo care for you from the moment you arrive until the moment you leave!
All the staff we encountered were efficient, courteous and always had time for you. Questions were answered promptly, recommendations were made and they seemed genuinely eager to please and ensure that your stay was pleasurable.
The entertainment staff worked especially hard and we very much enjoyed taking part in rifle shooting, aqua aerobics, table tennis,billiards, water polo, boules, and even the bingo!
We loved the hotel’s peaceful location, overlooking the ocean next to la Playa de Las Coloradas, with views of Fuerteventura. It suited us perfectly and we walked along the promenade to the Rubicon Marina, swam off the nearby pontoon, played tennis, squash, table tennis and used the gym on numerous occasions.
We all loved the food and felt that the buffet restaurant offered a mouthwatering array of both Canarian and international dishes. At breakfast the array of breads, cold cuts, salads, hot food, fruits, pastries, cereals, juices, was endless and I cannot imagine how any guest can refer to this as either repetitive or standard breakfast fare.
We did not take advantage of the spa facilities, so can't comment
I would definitely like to return to this hotel in the future, and would also be tempted to try some of Iberostar’s other locations to see if the same standard exists across the board.

Room Tip: Sea-facing rooms offer a peaceful location and have the bonus of a view of Fuerteventura

Having not been to the island for many years and never to this end of the town I was a bit sceptical to begin with when booking. I need not have worried.

As we always hire a car from the airport for the duration of our stay the location was not a problem. The hotel is at the far end of Playa Blanca near the Papagayo nature reserve. A very nice ten minute walk takes you to the new marina which was not built on our last stay. This is a lovely place to relax with a coffee or something stronger. Continue walking and you arrive at the main town.

If you decide to take a trip to Fuertaventura by boat then be aware that the glass bottom boat is 20 Euro cheaper than either of the ferries from Playa Blanca. Although the boat is smaller it is a fantastic trip where flying fish dart in the boats wake.

The staff at the hotel were very friendly and very efficient. At no point did we have a negative response from anyone within the hotel. The housekeeping staff were very efficient and did a thorough job with our room. Bottles of water were left daily in our room and even a botte of wine one evening.

Food was plentifull and varied with a wide choice of cooked or cold meals at all times. The only downside to the food was the desserts which were very much the same each day. A good variety of fresh fish, meat and vegetables were served and over the 10 day stay I did not manage to eat the same thing twice. Every nationality was catered for at breakfast and dinner.

Around the pool there was a constant presence of a life guard and the safety of the guests was thought of in many ways. I have read that a few people have complained about plastic glasses around the pool, this is obviously for safety reasons. Although I do not use swimming pools and prefer the sea the pool looked inviting and was well used although never overcrowded.

The only critisism I have is that the veranda bar overlooking the pool does not serve coffee untill 12 noon. We would love to have sat there after breakfast with a coffee.

After such a good time we booked again as soon as we returned home.

This was a return visit - after spending a nice 10 days at the hotel last year we knew what we were hopefully going to get this year ... must admit don't normally return to same place twice but just needed to get away to somewhere familiar! Rooms weren't as expected but that was the confusing booking with'Beat the Brochure' so many room choices and apparently as told to us by the hotel reception they were having problems with Thomas Cook and the room codes they were using (so be aware - make sure you confirm your choice of room!) We ended up on the 2nd level (which turns out to be the first floor if on the 'sea' side of building ... you can see the sea if you stretched your neck .... mainly a room facing the sea but not with 'sea view'. Went All Inclusive and can't fault the hospitality of the dining room staff and the food offered. A buffet style but with ample choice. As like many others have already noted the AIR CONDITIONING is lacking .. especially in the public areas. The Air Con in the rooms is tolerable. The room we had (243) was clean and roomy and well kept by the chamber lady and a bottle of water left each day which is good - but take your own kettle if you want a cuppa in the morning! (there is a small fridge in the room which is handy). The entertainment team work very hard to look after everyone and they work exceptionally hard to provide evening entertainment but to be honest with the lack of air con it's hard to stay in the lower level room and it gets very warm and in all honesty the hotel should provide a much high standard of entertainment every night not just the odd night! (there is definately room for improvement ). The upper bar area (staff very friendly ) lots of choice of drinks but the chairs have seen better days (need to provide nice comfy ones... not broken plastic ones that stick to your legs). All staff were very friendly and in the main would recommend this hotel. Iberostar need to just put a few Euros into updating the Air Conditioning and making the place a little more comfortable. One last point the pool was kept nice and clean but again the water features didn't work (not sure why) perhaps Iberostar will reply and let us know!!

Room Tip: Double check what room you're getting .... too many types to choose from and can end up wth some...

Further, it is our pleasure to come back on your commentaries regarding the air conditioning and water features. Except for the lobby and it´s bar, we have air conditioning in all the common areas; however, during your visit, there were some unusual climatologic circumstances on the island of Lanzarote. The extremely high humidity that was registered those days provoked that despite the air conditioning running on full capacity, the sensation was still sultry. Due to the fact that our philosophy includes the preservation and respect for the environment, the lobby and it´s bar can´t be provided with air conditioning as they are kept open and this would mean important wastage of energy. In relation to the cascade or waterfall, the Jacuzzis and water beds, we are happy to point out that the first is switched on from 8:30am until 9am and the last from midday until 4pm. As the waterfall is quiet noisy and many of our guests visit us to enjoy peace and quietness we decided to only have it running until our guests start occupying the pool area and then switch it off so that no inconvenient loud sound dominates the atmosphere of our relaxing oasis. In the case of the Jacuzzis and water beds the reason that we choose this timetable has its origin in the activities offered by our animation team. In order to avoid interference and taking into account that their performances run until midday we established this schedule.

We also took good note of your remarks regarding the quality of our entertaining program and we lament that this time we weren´t able to delight you as much as we would have liked to. As we believe that the real holiday feeling goes hand in hand with lovely animation, we do our best to perform shows and activities that are of excellent taste and suited for all cultures and backgrounds. We constantly renew the offered spectacles to keep them surprising and fresh. Nevertheless, we passed your commentaries to the head of the department and they will be taken in consideration. Further, we also informed our team you find them hardworking and attend to everybody’s well being at the hotel and they were all delighted about this nice flattering remark.

Related to the kettle, we are sorry not to have been informed about how much you missed this during your stay. It would have been a pleasure arrange you one through our reception. As we know that in your home country, there exists a whole tea culture, we established the possibility for our guests to rent one.

On the other hand, we are grateful and satisfied that you described the hotel as lovely with welcoming staff, friendly waiters and a very thorough housekeeping team. In our opinion, the human forces in Iberostar are one of the most important pillars to build a hotel that offers well being, comfort and splendid holiday conditions. We choose and school all our employees according to a specific profile. Like this we aim to guarantee that all our guests can enjoy the close and personalized service Iberostar is famous for.

Further, we are glad to read that you could enjoy the culinary efforts of our chefs and the service in our restaurant.
